Chapter 21
A loud slap landed hard on Sophia's face. Her cheek instantly turned red - clearly, that slap wasn't light.
The one who hit her was Jasper. "Get lost!"
Wouldn't he also get upset if someone else hit her?
"Jasper, you actually hit me?" Sophia looked at Jasper in disbelief, tears immediately welling in her eyes as she questioned him.
Jasper couldn't care less about her. He turned around with a forced smile to explain to me, "Ms. Wilson, my sister is immature. Please don't hold it against her. I'll educate her properly when we get home. Oh, right, I have another sister who is Gregory's wife. So we're kind of connected, right?"
I couldn't help but laugh. Looking at Jasper, I felt somewhat emotional. Turns out, Sophia wasn't the most important person to him - it was just that I was never as important as Sophia. Really shows how you can't see the difference without comparison.
Sophia's face turned red with anger. "Am I wrong? Others might not know, but you should know, Gregory. Tell my brother - didn't she have someone beat you up, have people follow us, and now she's bought our company's floor? Are all these just coincidences?"
This time, Gregory didn't stand by her side either. "Sophia, about what happened two years ago, who can remember clearly? There are many people who look similar. You can't just accuse people based on guesses."
Sophia was so anxious she was about to cry. "Gregory, why are you saying this too?"
She turned and grabbed Jasper's arm, pointing at me angrily. "You have to believe me. Too many coincidences make a conspiracy. Emily, I'm telling you, once I dig up your background, you'll see how I deal with you."
Jasper roughly pushed her hand away, giving her a fierce warning look that made her open her mouth, but she could only swallow back the rest of her words.
I couldn't help but laugh.
He apologized again. "I know what Ms. Wilson said earlier was just in anger. I'll definitely discipline my sister properly when we get home. After all, we're family. Not to embarrass myself, but the Brown Group is already on shaky ground. If we make a big show of moving the company, it'll really shake people's confidence."
After I finished laughing, I still apologetically shook my head at him. "I never take back what I say. By the end of today, time is tight, so I think Mr. Wilson had better move quickly. Otherwise, I might have to ask the property management to help clear things out."
Jasper's face turned pale instantly.
Sophia was defiant. "Why are you even talking to her? It's just finding a place to move the company - we'll just move."
Jasper jerked his arm away and backhanded her with another slap. "Shut up."
Sophia stumbled from the hit, stepping back twice. Both her cheeks were now symmetrically red. Seemingly seeing Jasper angry at her for the first time, her tears that had just stopped began rolling down again, looking pitiful but not daring to cry out loud.
Gregory quickly stepped forward to pull Sophia into his arms protectively, frowning. "Even if Sophia is immature, you shouldn't hit her."
Jasper still had some respect for Gregory. "Gregory, you know our company's situation. We're working on a big deal right now. If people find out... The other party is already squeezing our prices to the limit. We can barely hold on now. If they see something's wrong, won't they manipulate us?"
Not wanting to waste time with them, I stood up and turned to Oscar. "Let's go. I'll take you downstairs to see my new company location."
Only then did Oscar smile and put his arm around my shoulder, reaching up to tuck the hair hanging by my temple behind my ear. "Alright then. Actually, this could've been settled over the phone - no need to make a special trip. You just got back to Lumaria yesterday, you must be tired."
Sophia looked at me coldly, as if trying to see right through me. I didn't care at all. In my heels, I walked past her elegantly without even giving her a glance.
From now on, she'll lose more and more. Everything she took from me before, I'll make her watch as she loses it all, one by one.
In the descending elevator, I uncomfortably pushed Oscar's arm off my shoulder. "I've noticed you take every chance you get to take advantage of me."
Oscar looked at me and smiled. "You should know, you're my fiancée. The image I've set up for others is that I adore you. But you really impressed me. I thought when you used SoftGlow Biotech's name, you wanted to find a chance to partner with the Brown Group after coming back. I didn't expect you started planning two years ago and specifically bought the building that their company sold."
I shrugged. "Just something I did in passing. I didn't start a company to partner with them."
"No wonder you didn't want to work with me at first. I have to admit, you have the resources to fight them. Your purpose in starting the company is..." Oscar already had the answer in his mind.
I smiled brightly at him. "Of course it's the same as yours - to eliminate them."
Just watching them slowly struggle like this makes me happy.
We looked at each other and laughed in unison.
"I want to say again that choosing to work with you was the wisest decision I've made," Oscar said to me.
I nodded and smiled at him. "I'm starting to think that agreeing to work with you might not be bad either."
"Then here's to a happy partnership, my fiancée." He extended his hand to me, his face showing a hint of playfulness rarely seen.
I placed my hand in his broad, dry palm. "Happy partnership, my dear fiancé."
Walking out of the elevator, I saw that the Brown Group leased this entire floor. We hadn't walked far when a receptionist politely approached to ask, "Excuse me, sir and madam, do you have an appointment?"
Oscar smiled and asked, "Do we need an appointment?"
Visibly, the receptionist's face slowly turned red. I glanced at Oscar - this man could probably survive on his looks alone, even if he had nothing else.
Of course, the receptionist's blush aside: "Yes, sir, an appointment is required. I can help you register."
Oscar looked at the receptionist with a casual smile. "What I mean is, we shouldn't need an appointment. But you can remind your colleagues to start packing up. You'll probably need to move overnight. Emily, such a large office space needs a good designer. I'll help you find one."
The receptionist didn't quite understand, not knowing why we were talking about moving and design at their company's entrance.
But the answer came quickly, because Jasper, along with Gregory and Sophia, also came out of another elevator.
"Ms. Wilson, look, our company is currently running smoothly..." Jasper was still trying to make me change my mind.
I smiled at him. "It does look hard to move. When I said by the end of today, I originally meant before midnight tonight. But since this is so difficult for you, let's do it before I arrive tomorrow morning. Anything left here will be considered my property."
The expression on Jasper's face was hard to read. I patted his shoulder twice. "Mr. Brown, it's not that I won't help you. It's just that talking about favors hurts business. Your time is precious right now, so I won't keep you. See you."
