Chapter 166
I'd been in the hospital for a week and just couldn't stand it anymore.
"Oscar, the doctor said the wound is healing well, I can recover at home. Let's go back, okay?" I'd been saying this to him countless times over the past few days, but he just wouldn't process my discharge.
Oscar reached out and softly stroked my hair. “Your injury hasn’t healed completely yet, so you’re not fit for the trip. Please be patient and stay for another two weeks.”
I exclaimed, "Another two weeks? My company..."
If I brought up work, he'd definitely refuse to let me leave even more.
I could only put on a pitiful expression, staring straight at him, softening my voice. "But the smell of disinfectant makes me want to throw up now. Look, I can barely eat these days. If I stay any longer, the baby will start losing weight too."
Sure enough, this trick worked.
Oscar's expression changed immediately. "I knew you weren't eating enough, and you kept denying it. I'll make more food today. You need to eat more and put on some weight."
I looked at him through gritted teeth. "Are you missing the point? What I mean is, I can't eat here. It makes me nauseous. I really want to go home, Oscar, Mr. Lopez, please?"
I don't usually act cute like this. If this didn't work, I'd be completely out of options.
Neither of us were idle people. We'd been away for so many days now. Though someone was managing the company, we still couldn't help worrying.
Oscar was torn too. Looking at my eager expression, he frowned and thought seriously. "Don't rush. Let me ask the doctor and see what they say."
I nodded quickly. "Just tell them I can't eat or sleep well in the hospital. The flight home is only a few hours. I can walk with crutches. Look, haven't I been walking fine these past few days? As long as I don't put too much pressure on it, it doesn't hurt anymore."
Oscar sighed and stroked my hair again. "Alright, rest first. I'll go talk to the doctor. Actually, you don't need to worry about the company. I've arranged everything. The most important thing is for you to take care of yourself."
Whatever he said, I simply nodded in agreement. “I understand. I’m not concerned about the company—I’m truly worried about the baby.”
He smiled at me, naturally understanding my hidden meaning.
While Oscar went to find the doctor, I started limping around packing things. Nina had been bringing stuff over these past few days, so packing now felt like moving house.
When Oscar came back, I was organizing nutritional supplements into a box. He quickly walked over and helped me up, his face anxious. "Emily, don't move. Who told you to pack these things? Just lie in bed properly. We haven't even said we're leaving yet. Why are you in such a hurry?"
I looked up at him, somewhat surprised. "The doctor won't let us leave? I clearly talked to them yesterday..."
Oscar looked at me helplessly and smiled. "I knew you couldn't wait to get discharged. The doctor said if we're really in a hurry, we can process the discharge, but you don't need to be this rushed. I'll pack these slowly. We can leave tomorrow, okay?"
I hesitated for a moment. Seeing that Oscar had already compromised, I didn't dare push too hard and could only nod. "Tomorrow works too. Tomorrow morning, right? Everyone gets discharged in the morning. It's more auspicious that way, heading home with the rising sun. Everything will get better and better."
Oscar looked at me, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “I’ve never heard of such a saying. I recall that when I was hospitalized, you allowed me to leave in the afternoon.”. What did you say then? You said staying in the hospital an extra half day would help the wound heal more, right?"
I covered my face and couldn't help laughing. "So is it okay or not?"
"Okay, whatever you say goes, my love." Oscar's voice was full of affection.
Finally getting what I wanted, I was in a great mood. Since he wouldn't let me move, I just lay there directing him. "I already folded the clothes. For these supplements, unpack them and put them together so they're easier to carry. Don't take the flowers—find a vase for them and leave them for the next patient. Also, make sure to keep the medical records safe. In case we need to change dressings or something, we can show them to the doctor at the hospital without needing another examination. And the deposit receipt—put everything you need for the paperwork together so nothing gets left behind."
Oscar got up and assisted me into a comfortable position on the bed. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle the packing. You don’t need to concern yourself with anything—just stay still.”. Oh, and Michael said he's going back to Solstice in the next few days. From what he said, Nina wants to go back with him. Do you want to ask her about it?"
I got angry. "What? Nina wants to go back with him? Isn't she afraid he'll sell her off? No way, hold on, I'm calling Nina."
Oscar quickly reminded me, “Be discreet and avoid being too blunt. They’re now a couple—if you attempt to separate them this way, you could end up offending Michael.”
I didn't care about any Michael. That silly girl Nina—she saw him with a gun with her own eyes, and she still dares to go back to Solstice with him. If she really gets sold, we won't even be able to find her.
When the call connected, Nina sounded like she'd just done some intense exercise, her voice breathless. "What's up, Emma?"
I didn't think in other directions. "Nina, you're going to Solstice with Michael? Are you stupid? Do you know what he does in Solstice? Even now, his ventures are still barely within the bounds of the law—and that’s after I spent three years helping him become legitimate. He isn’t a trustworthy person. Don’t act on impulse.
Nina was still breathing heavily. "I... I know... I'm just going to check it out. If he sells me, you're still there, right? You can just buy me back."
I was speechless. Just as I was about to say something, I heard Michael's low voice on the other end. "You can only be bought by me. No one else can take you."
Nina suddenly cried out, then lowered her voice to scold him. "Wait, I'm on the phone."
“It’s alright—you do your talking, and I’ll handle my own matters. We won’t get in each other’s way.” Michael’s voice was deep and hoarse, filled with desire, which made me blush.
Was this the same Michael I knew, the one who carried himself with such aloof detachment, and now that voice dripped with something entirely unfamiliar.Only then did I realize they seemed to be having sex. No wonder she was breathing so hard earlier.
"I... I'll hang up now. You... I'll talk to you after you're done." I quickly hung up. It wasn't even dark yet and they were already having sex? That hotel room—really getting their money's worth.
After ending the call, I turned and noticed Oscar struggling to suppress his laughter. He likely had already figured it out a long time ago and didn’t bother to warn me. Annoyed, I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
