Chapter 163
I listed all of Michael's flaws, she told me the scandals about the Lopez family, and in the end we reached the same surprising conclusion, Michael wasn't good enough for her, and Oscar wasn't right for me.
The hospital room door opened from outside, and both Michael and Oscar walked in with gloomy faces.
"That's enough. If you keep going, you're crossing the line," Oscar said irritably to Nina, probably confused why her impression of him had suddenly turned so negative after improving before.
Michael also spoke up, "Emily, in the three years you've been with me at Solstice, I think I've treated you pretty well, right? When you returned to Lumaria, I gave you money and support. How come you're saying such terrible things about me now?"
I quickly explained, "It's not that you're terrible, you'reactually not bad. But Nina... she deserves better. Gentle, considerate, kind, generous, which of these can you do?"
Nina coughed and smiled at me with a wink."Actually... Michael is pretty good. People's tastes change all the time. This cold type of handsome guy, I don't just like his appearance, I love seeing how he's cold on the outside but passionate on the inside."
I looked at her speechlessly. "You're really far gone. Where is he passionate?"
Seeing that I'd lost all reason and was about to badmouth him to his face, Nina quickly interrupted, "Okay, okay, you're still injured, don't get upset. I've heard everything you said, really. Don't worry, we'll talk more about it slowly after you've recovered."
Michael took a deep breath and said somewhat reluctantly. "I just got word that everything over there has been resolved. They've caught everyone. What do you want to do for revenge?"
I looked at my leg, knowing that once they were caught, the authorities would take over. I could only sigh helplessly. "What revenge can I get like this? They'll probably get the death penalty anyway once they're taken back. Just leave it to the police."
Oscar disagreed. "That's letting them off too easy. It's okay, you can't go there yourself, but I have plenty of methods. I can livestream it for you when the time comes."
I looked at him with some excitement. "What are you planning to do?"
Oscar smiled at me and reached out to touch my hair. "You'll find out then."
Nina's eyes sparkled, and she asked excitedly. "Can you take me with you? I'm obsessed with mafia novels, I wanna see how brutal and violent you guys actually are in real life."
Michael frowned and refused. "No."
"Why not?" Nina frowned too, looking straight at Michael. "I'm just watching, not doing anything."
Michael's tone remained firm. "You shouldn't see that kind of scene. I'm afraid you'll have nightmares."
I pursed my lips and couldn't help but exposed him. "Could it be that he's just afraid you'll see his other side?"
Michael opened his mouth to argue but seemed unable to find the right words.
Nina laughed. "Isn't Oscar the same? When you get down to it, aren't they just one who's openly ruthless and one who's secretly bad? You can accept Oscar as the father of your child, so why can't I date Michael?"
Nina's words made the gloom on Michael's face suddenly clear like sunlight breaking through clouds. His eyes brightened as he looked at Nina, unable to contain the smile at the corners of his mouth.
I wanted to argue, but looking at Oscar beside me, I swallowed my words. In the end, neither of us could convince the other.
Seeing me stay quiet, Nina visibly cheered up and carefully gave me a hug. "Don't worry, I'm just dating him. If it really doesn't work out, I'll break up with him. I definitely won't give him a chance to hurt me."
The smile on Michael's face disappeared like magic. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nina winking at him, and gradually his expression improved again.
I pretended not to see their exchange. If it was just dating... then let her try. With her impatient personality, she'd probably get tired of it soon enough.
Thinking this way, I stopped worrying about Nina and Michael's relationship. "If you need to handle things, go quickly. When the police ask you to hand them over, you can't refuse. I'm fine here, no need to worry."
Oscar looked at my leg, nodded and said, "There are people watching outside. No one will get in. Just sleep for a while, I'll be back soon."
Michael stood up, and Nina stood up too. "Are you going to find that person now? I'm coming with you."
Michael was about to refuse. "You stay here..."
Halfway through, probably remembering that our private conversation earlier was very unfavorable to him, he quickly changed his words. "I'll have someone take you back to the hotel. I'll come find you after things are settled."
Nina raised her eyebrows at him and said seriously again. "I said—I want to go with you. Michael, are you really like what Emma said, with a side you can't let me see? If that's the case, then I need to reconsider our relationship."
Michael actually showed a hurt expression, which left me stunned. Finally, he could only sigh helplessly. "Fine, but let's be clear—if you feel uncomfortable, don't force yourself. Tell me, okay?"
Nina nodded. "Okay, I'm not stupid. Emma, wait for me to go get revenge for you. I'll come see you again later."
Soon, the three of them left together. The hospital room became quiet again. My leg, which hadn't hurt before, probably because the anesthetic was gradually wearing off, began sending waves of pain that made me restless.
But soon this feeling diminished somewhat because of a video call from Nina.
On the other side of the screen was a room with drawn curtains and dim lighting. I saw Aubrey, Benjamin, and an unfamiliar man tied back-to-back, huddled in a corner of the room, showing somewhat terrified expressions toward the camera.
Nina moved the camera close to their faces, her voice full of excitement. "Emma, who exactly hurt you? Him? Or him?"
I was in a good mood. "The scar on my face was Benjamin's work—the one on the right. The leg was Aubrey—the one with glasses."
The other man nodded frantically. "Right, I didn't do anything. Please let me go. As long as you're willing to let me go, name your conditions."
Oscar's voice came from off-camera. "Let you go? You're the city police chief. When my wife went to the police station to report before, you were the one who leaked the information that almost got her killed, right? This time you also arranged the route, right? Even their drug trafficking operation went through you. Who do you think will let you go?"
The man's face turned pale as he looked in Oscar's direction, saying frantically. "Everything I did was following orders. Gentlemen, as long as you let me go, I can give you all my money. I have a lot of money, and gold bars too. I'll give you the address—let me go, and it's all yours."
Michael laughed coldly, walking over step by step, and fired a shot. I saw him scream in the camera as blood practically spurted from his leg.
Michael said coldly. "Why are you wasting words with him? Let's settle the score first."
