Chapter 113
When we left the experimental base, Oscar's face was still gloomy.
Getting into the car, I gently placed my hand over his: "You can't believe everything Jeffrey says."
Oscar gave me a bitter smile and shook his head: "I know, but what he said might actually be true."
I was a bit confused. I wasn't sure about Oscar and Adrian's relationship, but after so many years of working together, the trust level shouldn't be so low that one person's words could cause suspicion.
Oscar sighed: "It's not that I don't trust him, it's that I knew from the start he approached me with ulterior motives."
I was even more confused: "What do you mean?"
Oscar continued: "When I met him, I was only fifteen, fighting with people in an alley, covered in blood all over my head and face. He came and saved me, then told me that if I didn't want to be bullied, I had to be much stronger than others, so strong that they couldn't even catch up. He told me that making the whole world my enemy was the way to protect myself."
I couldn't help but frown. Fifteen is exactly when someone's worldview is being shaped. Such ideas would definitely make someone dark, but Oscar didn't seem like that.
Oscar seemed to notice my confusion and smiled, reaching out to touch my hair: "I was young, not stupid. I'd learn what I should learn, but I could still tell what I shouldn't. His ideas completely contradicted what my mom told me about being a kind person."
I didn't say anything, just quietly listened to him: "Later, Adrian helped me build the company, taught me how to exploit legal loopholes. We grew from a small company bit by bit. He also taught me to disguise myself, to cultivate one force publicly while having my own force secretly. He even encouraged me to return to Lumaria to develop, including planning how to gradually bring The Novagen Group under my control."
I was even more confused: "If that's the case, he should support you. Why do you say you always knew he had ulterior motives?"
"No one treats someone well unconditionally." Oscar took my hand. "There are no eternal relationships, only eternal interests. Otherwise, why would someone capable of having everything give it all to me?"
"Yeah, why would he?" I was even more puzzled. If he was capable of having all this himself, why had he always been Oscar's assistant?
Oscar shook his head helplessly: "I can only say he hides too deep. I've never been able to figure it out. Actually, I've had people investigate his identity, but they all came up empty. Adrian's background is completely blank."
I said with some certainty: "Is it possible that, like me, Adrian is just his current name, and before, he was someone else?"
Oscar nodded: "That's what I think too, but since he appeared on his own, there's no way to verify it. However, now that he's started making moves, his purpose should become clear before long. Regardless, since he wants to harm you, I absolutely won't trust him anymore."
"What are you going to do?" This was a question I was almost afraid to ask. I didn't dare gamble on how he would choose between his assistant and me, or rather, between love and interests.
I was afraid I would once again be the option he abandoned.
Oscar didn't hesitate at all, his expression serious: "After all these years, I don't want to use dirty methods. After we get back, I'll ask him clearly, then cut ties with him."
My heart stirred. His determination moved me deeply: "Is it... worth it?"
Oscar looked into my eyes, his answer incredibly sincere: "Have I told you? I will always choose you. Since he's already done something to hurt you, he's my enemy. I'll always stand with you."
I gripped his large, warm hand back, my smile bright and radiant. Having someone who so firmly chooses me, perhaps God hasn't been so cruel to me after all.
"Oscar, thank you."
I said to him sincerely. I should thank him. His presence warms me in this cold world, and he's the one who keeps me believing in love. Being with him, I'm willing, for a lifetime.
Oscar reached out and messed up my long hair: "Are you silly? Why are you thanking me? If you really want to say something to me, why don't you try three different words?"
I blushed. Those three words... it seemed like I hadn't said them in a very long time.
His beautiful eyes looked at my face, filled with love, focused as he waited for my answer.
"I..." His gaze was too intense, making me afraid to meet his eyes. I quickly looked away, gathering my courage before slowly saying: "I... like you."
A large hand covered the back of my head. Before I could figure out what was happening, that handsome face came closer, carrying his unique, pleasant woody scent. His warm lips landed accurately on mine, his nimble tongue exploring inside, hooking my tongue without obstruction, entangling together.
I closed my eyes, accepting his actions. His breath was hot and burning, making me almost forget to breathe. All I could hear was our heavy breathing and the sound of our lips and tongues intertwining.
His large hand slid down from the top of my head, caressing my waist, exploring. When it entered from the hem of my clothes and touched my skin, I felt like I'd been shocked and involuntarily bit down.
Oscar hissed in pain, and we finally came to our senses. I pushed him away, quickly breaking free from our entanglement, reaching up to touch my burning cheeks.
"Where are you touching?" I didn't dare look at his desire-filled eyes, afraid his burning gaze would melt me.
Oscar stuck out his tongue, licking his lips that had become red and swollen from my bite, his voice teasing: "You still love to bite, like a little cat."
The limited space in the car created an intimate atmosphere. I blushed, still not daring to meet his eyes: "You deserved it."
Oscar's gaze was penetrating, as if seeing right through me: "Then let's wait until we get back... when we get back, we'll have a good discussion about what to do next?"
"What do you want to do?" I looked at him in alarm.
Oscar's expression was ambiguous: "Of course... plan our next steps against Benjamin and Adrian. What else did you think?"
He did it on purpose. He definitely made me misunderstand on purpose. I wrinkled my nose and acted cute with him for the first time: "I don't want to talk to you anymore. Drive, I want to go home."
"Okay, let's go home." Oscar hit the gas, and the car sped toward our home.
