Stop!
Her breaths came in short gasps as the convoy continued, the tunnel widening into an underground fortress. Massive steel doors loomed ahead, flanked by heavily armed guards who stood like statues, their faces void of emotion.
The officer beside her stretched, then turned to her with a smirk. He winked. “Welcome home.”

The moment Cynthia’s feet touched the cold, dusty ground outside the SWAT vehicle, a firm hand gripped her arm, steering her forward without a word. The officer guiding her gave a sharp nod toward the path ahead, his expression unreadable behind the visor of his helmet.
“Move,” he ordered, his tone clipped and authoritative.
Cynthia didn’t resist. She had already learned the consequences of defiance. With her hands cuffed behind her, she took slow, hesitant steps, her heartbeat pounding violently against her ribs. Behind her, three heavily armed officers trailed closely, their boots crunching against the gravel in synchronized steps. Their silence was suffocating, their presence overwhelming.
At the end of the narrow path stood a reinforced entrance— thick steel doors embedded into the towering concrete walls of what seemed to be an underground facility. One of the officers ahead raised a gloved hand and signaled with a thumbs-up to the man stationed on the other side of a glass panel, a security post embedded into the wall. The guard behind the glass barely glanced at Cynthia before pressing a button on the control panel in front of him. A loud, mechanical hum vibrated through the air, and the reinforced doors slid apart, revealing a passageway lined with blinking security sensors.
Before Cynthia could take a step, the officer behind her shoved her forward with an impatient grunt. She stumbled, nearly falling, but caught herself in time to avoid hitting the hard metal floor.
“Move faster,” the officer snapped, stepping in behind her as the doors sealed shut with a thunderous clang.
Cynthia straightened up, swallowing the bitter taste of humiliation, and walked forward into the next chamber— a security cabinet designed for intake processing. The officer standing on the other side of the passageway glanced at her, then turned his attention to the man escorting her.
“This the special intake?” he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Yeah,” her escort confirmed, his grip tightening slightly on her arm.
The officer behind the security panel chuckled, leaning forward slightly. His gaze swept over Cynthia, eyes dark with amusement. “Well, a special intake deserves a special treatment,” he sneered, his voice dripping with condescension. “Don’t expect anything different.”
Cynthia met his gaze head-on. She could feel the malicious satisfaction radiating off him— the twisted pleasure he derived from her predicament. It was a game to them, a form of sport. They enjoyed the power they wielded over her, relishing every moment of her suffering.
But she wasn’t going to give them that satisfaction.
Lifting her chin slightly, she forced a small, mocking smile onto her face. “Yes, sir,” she said smoothly, her voice calm. “I don’t expect anything else.”
The smirk on the officer’s face faltered, his amusement flickering into something darker. His eyes narrowed, his jaw tensing as he realized that she wasn’t reacting the way he had expected. Even though she was terrified— her insides twisted with fear— she refused to let them see it.
Annoyance flashed across his face, contorting his expression. “I’ve got my eyes on you,” he said, his tone laced with warning.
Cynthia’s smile didn’t waver. “I’ll make sure I behave, then,” she replied, her voice syrupy sweet.
The man’s lips curled into a sneer, clearly irritated by her refusal to cower. He opened his mouth to say something, but the officer beside Cynthia chimed in. His words directed towards Cynthia.
“That’s one way to make an impression,” he said, his voice thick with sarcasm. “Picking fights with the people who’ll be overseeing your stay? Bold move. Keep it up, princess. Your stay here is already bad. But trust me— it can get a lot worse.”
The words sent an involuntary chill racing down Cynthia’s spine. How much worse could it get?
The officer didn’t wait for her to respond. Instead, he jerked his head toward the next door. “Let’s go.”
Cynthia swallowed hard, feeling the weight of those words settle deep in her gut. Without another word, she followed him, each step taking her deeper into the unknown hell that awaited her beyond those walls.
\--------------------
Cynthia walked down the long, dimly lit hallway, her breathing shallow as the cold air wrapped around her like an unwelcome embrace. The officer leading her moved with a steady, unbothered stride, his boots clicking against the concrete floor, as he followed her closely, his presence looming like a shadow behind her. Every steel door they passed bore a small, fogged-out window, and she could hear muffled voices and occasional clangs from inside.
As she reached a particular steel entrance, she noticed bold capital letters above it: MUGSHOT ROOM. The officer leading her stopped abruptly and signaled with a sharp motion of his hand.
“Stop!”
