Fall Back! Fall Back!

Fall Back! Fall Back!
The Following Day...

The stillness of the Manhattan evening shattered.

Flashes of red and blue lit up the towering black gates of Carlos Antonio’s grand estate like fireworks on the Fourth of July. Dozens of SUVs, armored trucks, and blacked-out federal vans converged on the property in tight tactical formation. Their engines growled. Sirens howled. A wall of bulletproof muscle hit the pavement hard.

SWAT operatives and federal tactical units spilled from every vehicle like a coordinated flood. Boots hit the concrete runway in sync. They fanned out quickly, rifles drawn, faces grim behind black visors. Communication buzzed in their earpieces, hands signaling toward the estate's wings and rooftops.

Inside the property, alarm systems triggered. Carlos’s private SS security— contracted mercenaries, ex-military men paid to protect with zero regard to no authority aside Carlos’s— poured out onto the wide front courtyard. Within seconds, over thirty of them had formed a perimeter, semi-automatics drawn, nerves taut, eyes cold.

The head of Carlos’s security unit— a tall, scar-faced man in a tactical vest— stepped forward from their line. His stance wide. Voice sharp. “Identify yourselves or we open fire. This is private ground. Off-limits.”

From behind the bulletproofed convoy, the SWAT captain stepped out. Broad-shouldered, early 50s, his face weathered but defiant. His Kevlar vest read Federal Tactical Unit Commander. He held up a leather-bound federal badge in one hand, high and steady.

“This is the United States Federal Police,” he called out. “We’re here for the immediate arrest of one Megan Wills— wife of Carlos Antonio— on charges of first-degree murder. She confessed on video. We have a federal warrant for her apprehension.”

He reached into his vest pocket and raised the official document above his head.

But the head of Carlos’s guards didn’t flinch.

“We don’t give a damn about your warrant,” he barked. “Megan Wills stays here. Unless Mr. Antonio says otherwise.”

A hum of tension swelled in the air.

The captain’s jaw flexed. “You’re interfering with a federal operation. We will use lawful force if necessary.”

“Then you better be ready to die,” the SS commander replied, voice calm like ice. “You brought what— twenty men? Thirty? We’ve got over a hundred posted across this estate. Ex-military. Para-military. Snipers on the west wing. Trip wires on the north slope. This place is a fortress. You won't even get a warning shot.”

Behind him, red aiming lasers winked to life across the estate. Some focused on the feds. Others tracked shadows moving behind pillars, garden hedges, and the towering marble lion statues flanking the entrance.

Still, the SWAT captain didn’t back down.

“This is the United States government you’re threatening,” he said, voice like iron. “You may stop us— but there are more coming. And they won’t negotiate.”

The SS commander spat on the ground. “Fuck you. Fuck the government. The only law inside these walls is Carlos Antonio’s.”

Then the captain gave the signal. A subtle glance over his shoulder, followed by a closed fist motion.

The federal team instantly took cover— ducking behind SUVs, flipping shields up, rifles sweeping. Safety clicks echoed.

That single movement was the spark.

Bang!

The first shot cracked the tension— and all hell broke loose.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunfire exploded across the estate like a rolling thunderstorm. Muzzle flashes lit up the courtyard. Bullets raked through hedges, slammed into SUVs, shattered the windshield of a federal van.

Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta!

A mounted machine gun from the east tower opened up, tearing through the air like death itself. A federal agent screamed, his vest catching two rounds before he hit the ground.

Men on both sides went down.

Through the chaos, two SWAT officers— Ramirez and Cole— broke from formation and slipped around the west garden path, using the shrubbery and stone fountains for cover. Their mission: locate Megan Wills.

“Move! Move!” Ramirez whispered as they reached a narrow service door at the estate's side wing.

Cole kicked it open.

Inside, dim lighting. Opulence and silence. The hallway stretched long, lined with Renaissance paintings and gilded mirrors. They swept through it, boots silent against marble, rifles leading.

They reached a heavy door at the end of the hall.

Cole rammed it with his shoulder. The door crashed inward.

Inside— two armed SS agents. The reaction was instant.

Bang! Bang!

Gunfire cracked in the tight space. One of the SWAT officers took a bullet to the side. He grunted, staggered, blood blooming under his vest. But Cole dropped one guard with a clean shot to the chest, and Ramirez dispatched the other with a burst to the thigh and head.

The silence that followed was deafening.

Ramirez turned toward a walk-in closet across the room, eyes narrowing. A soft sound— shallow breathing.

“I can hear you,” he growled, his voice rough and clear. “Step out with your hands in the air. Don’t make me drag you out.”

A pause. Then, slowly, the closet door creaked open.

Megan Wills emerged. Hair disheveled. Eyes wide, mascara streaked down her cheeks. Hands raised high. A long silk robe clung to her like wet tissue.

Ramirez moved fast, slammed the cuffs on her wrists.

“You’re under arrest for the murder of Emily Johnson. You have the right to remain silent— anything you say can and will be used against you in court.”

She was trembling. “Don’t… please. Carlos will fix this…”

“You’re very funny,” Ramirez snapped.

Then he turned back to his partner— Cole— who was slumped against the wall, coughing up blood.

“Stay with me,” Ramirez said, crouching and grabbing him by the vest. “We’re getting out.”

He looked up at Megan, rage in his eyes. “Move. Now. Step slow. You try anything— I'll drop you and say you resisted.”

He aimed his rifle straight at her head.

Shaking, Megan obeyed. Step by step. Out the door.

“Haaahhh—ahhh—” Cole groaned, his breathing ragged.

Ramirez dragged him across the hallway, one arm locked around his ribs, the other gripping his rifle. Megan walked ahead, glancing back only once— then quickly away from the blood pooling behind her.

Outside, the gunfire still raged. The estate burned with chaos. Only six of the original twenty-four federal agents remained.

But when they saw Megan in cuffs, their mission complete— they opened the side gates and started pulling back.

“Fall back! Fall back!” the one of the officers yelled over the comms.

The remaining team threw smoke canisters, scrambled into the armored SUVs, and gunned the engines. Bullets pelted the windshields as they peeled out— tires screeching, doors slamming, sirens wailing once more into the city night.

They left behind their dead, their wounded— and a war far from over.

But Megan Wills was in custody.

And Carlos Antonio… would soon feel the heat.
