CHAPTER 32
[THIRD PERSON’S P. O. V]
Since Matt is shorter than the quarterback, he couldn’t manage to retrieve the phone by which Levy had just took the recording. He should’ve known that Levy was smart. After being thrown across the room by the elder brother, he scrambled to his feet when he came face to face with Reign who was free by then. Levy must’ve cut open the cords. God, this was not going as it was supposed to.
“Tie him, Reign.” Levy ordered, while Reign grabbed the person who could barely stand. After the fall, his knees, legs and hands were bruised. Before Reign could tie him, he went for a blunt try to slash Reign’s throat with his pocket knife, which instead made a gash on Reign’s arm.
“Jesus Christ, Reign! Are you okay?” The worried brother came running to see his wound. His brother just smiled at him.
“Flesh wound. I’ll survive.” He replied chuckling while Levy snatched the knife from the boy’s sweaty hands. After he was all tied up, Levy dialed a number on his phone.
“Hello 911, this is Levy Williams speaking. From 24th Park Avenue, white mansion.”
“Sir, how can we help you?”
“No, Matt! Please don’t kill yourself. Drop the gun down! Please don’t!” His voice rose higher, as he pretended that he was talking to Matt. Matt looked perplexed, he couldn’t speak because his mouth was tied up too.
“Sir, what is happening? Tell that person to drop the gun down!”
Levy smirked at the smallest brother, as he bent down to pick up the abandoned gun on the floor.
“Ma’am, this boy has confessed to three murders by himself which I’ve recorded on my phone and now, he wants to kill himself.” Even Reign was confused. What was going on?
“Sir, tell him to hang on, our police force is on the way.” Levy moved towards Matt, sticking the rear end of the gun to the boy’s head. Matt’s confused expression changed into horror, as the truth dawned on him.
“Matt, please drop the gun down. Just surrender yourself. No!” He shouted as he adjusted the gun in Matt’s hand with a strong grip. He secured Matt’s hand holding the gun, with his own as the tied up boy started shifting and wheezing.
“Goodbye, Matt.” Levy whispered so low at only Matt could hear and pulled the trigger, not even allowing Matt to beg for his life.
“Oh my God!!” Reign shrieked, as the bullet tore through Matt’s skull and brain, as blood splattered over Levy’s face.
The gunshot echoed in the room, as the woman on the other end of the phone started speaking again.
“Has he shot himself, sir?” She questioned, as Levy eagerly licked his blood laden lips.
“Yes.” He replied, as she assured them at the police units would reach there within fifteen minutes or so. He reluctantly put the gun down, as he started examining Matt’s pocket knife.
“Come here. Let me see your wound.” Levy mused, as Reign’s feet wobbled and he fell to the ground, losing balance.
Levy ran towards his brother as he pulled him up, straddling him on his lap. “What happened? Reign, speak to me!” He requested, as the other person flashed him a weak smile.
“The knife… was poisoned… with cyanide. I saw him… dipping it in… cyanide solution. I won’t survive…” His whispered, as his shallow breath made him gasp while Levy stared at him, wide eyed; with pure shock and horror draped on his face.
“No, no, no, no! You’re not dying today!” His face torn into a painstricken one, as Reign started profusely coughing.
“I will wait… for you… in the shades.” He blurted out, as his hand reached up to caress Levy’s cheek, while his head fell to the side. Life faded from his green eyes, as his breath ceased. The quarterback was still on the ground with a dead boy in his arms. Reign was dead.
He gently placed the boy on the cold floor, as he picked up the accused knife. He ogled the knife with his trembling hands, as the unshed tears started escaping. Matt’s plan for his vindictive malice led to him losing Reign. He pressed the knife against his shoulder as he dragged it backwards, scraping a good part of the skin off. Blood oozed out of that wound, as he sat on the floor, bringing Reign close to him again.
With the smaller brother in his arms, the quarterback gently laid his head on his as he let out a deep sigh, closing his eyes.
The police broke the door, barging in the room after twenty minutes of the phone call. They came face to face with three people laying lifeless on the floor. Two of them wrapped with one another; cause of death unknown. While the other must’ve shot himself.
They would have never known their names at the very moment except Matt’s which was mentioned on the call, if the sheriff wouldn’t have arrived and recognized one particular body lying on the floor.
