Chapter 187: The Windsor Family Owes You an Apology

Chapter 187: The Windsor Family Owes You an Apology

Diana hurried forward, grasping her hand: "Mrs. Young, try to stay calm. Your heart needs time to heal."

Celeste opened her mouth, her voice barely a whisper: "Diana... sweet girl... we failed you so badly."

Diana's nose stung with unshed tears. Five years ago, in the cold depths of Windsor Manor, she alone had shown her a trace of familial warmth.

Diana said softly. "That's behind us now. What matters is getting you better. Daisy and Jason are waiting to meet you."

At the mention of the children's names, Celeste's eyes lit up: "Oh my... are these my great-grandchildren?"

Diana met Celeste's gaze, unable to refuse with a gentle nod: "They're my children, but..."

Celeste glanced at Charles, then nodded knowingly. "Of course. You and Charles have been apart so long, your original child from back then is surely..." She trailed off tactfully, then continued, "But even if you and Charles are separated, you're still like a granddaughter to me, and your children are still family."

Standing nearby, Charles watched this exchange with a tumult of emotions.

He suddenly realized that Diana's willingness to return for this surgery wasn't solely due to professional ethics—it was because of that indelible kindness in her heart.

Just as the atmosphere in the room grew warm, Charles's phone suddenly vibrated.

He stepped outside to answer. Nathan's voice sounded urgent: "Mr. Windsor, we have a problem. Julia waited for the guards to switch shifts, then jumped off her damn roof. She's being rushed to our hospital for emergency treatment!"

Charles furrowed his brow: "She jumped? What the hell is wrong with her?"

"Says she wanted to see Hank one last time. Thinks you and Ms. Johnson have been keeping her in the dark. Mr. Windsor, the Smith family is in complete chaos. Beckett is heading to the hospital with his people, demanding explanations from Ms. Johnson."

Charles let out a cold laugh: "What? Seems my lesson to the Smith family wasn't thorough enough."

He hung up and glanced back at the room where Diana was speaking gently with Celeste.

This time, he would absolutely not let those lunatics get within arm's reach of her.

News of Julia's jump spread through the hospital like wildfire.

Though she'd landed on grass and wasn't in mortal danger, multiple fractures left her looking utterly wretched.

Beckett stormed into Evergreen Hospital's lobby with a crowd of Smith family relatives.

"I want Diana down here now!" Though Beckett wasn't as hysterical as Julia, the anguish in his eyes was chilling. "That woman drove my wife to jump off a roof—she owes me answers!"

Security was struggling to contain them—the Smiths still had enough pull in the city to cause real problems.

"Mr. Smith, please remain calm—this is a hospital!" James emerged with staff to maintain order.

"Calm? My daughter's dead, my son's locked up, and now my wife's fighting for her life—you want me to stay calm?" Beckett pointed toward the elevator. "That woman Diana—ever since she returned, the Smith family has become this! She's the one responsible for all these consequences!"

Just then, the elevator doors slowly opened.

Charles emerged expressionlessly, followed by a dozen black-suited bodyguards.

His powerful presence instantly suppressed the commotion.

"Beckett, what exactly are you trying to do?" Charles approached Beckett, his half-foot height advantage creating tremendous pressure.

Beckett gritted his teeth: "Mr. Windsor, your protection of her has limits! Julia jumped because of her!"

"Because of her, or because the Smith family is rotten to the core?" Charles sneered. "Hank orchestrated the car accident, Laura hired assassins—which of these charges was false? Julia jumped because she wanted revenge on Diana, don't think I don't know."

"You..."

Beckett found himself speechless, since he was the one who'd confined Julia, fearing she'd cause trouble.

But he hadn't expected her to jump, so he seized this opportunity to make a scene at the hospital, giving her some vindication.

"Listen carefully." Charles grabbed Beckett's tie, lowering his voice. "I already gave the Smith family a chance. Since you can't control your family members, there's no need for your existence. Nathan, notify finance—initiate full-scale siege operations against Smith Group."

Beckett's face went ashen: "Mr. Windsor! You can't do this! Our families have partnerships..."

"Those partnerships end now." Charles shoved him away. "Get out of this hospital. Otherwise, I'll make sure you can't even afford Julia's medical bills."

The Smith family members were forcibly "escorted" out by security.

After handling everything, Charles turned to find Diana standing behind a nearby pillar.

She looked at him with complex eyes.

"You really didn't need to go that far," Diana approached. "The Smith family is already ruined."

"People with nothing left are the most dangerous." Charles moved toward her, his tone instantly softening. "Diana, I promised I'd clear away all obstacles. The Smith family is the last one."

Diana fell silent for a moment, then suddenly spoke: "Charles, once Mrs. Young is discharged, let's not see each other anymore."

Charles's heart plummeted.

"Why?"

Diana met Charles's gaze: "I only came back for Mrs. Young's condition—you knew that from the start. If not for her illness, you never would have encountered me again. Wouldn't it be better if we didn't interfere with each other's lives?"

Charles found himself momentarily unable to argue.

"But... didn't you agree to reconsider our relationship?"

A mocking smile curved Diana's lips: "You know Daisy and Jason aren't yours. Be honest—can you really tell me that doesn't bother you?"

Under Diana's scrutiny, Charles felt strangely guilty.

Really not mind? That would be impossible.
