Chapter 42 Chapter 42
Chapter 42

Iris POV

It's been two days since I tried to talk to Darius and he told me he wasn't in the mood. I have barely seen him since then, even though we live in the same house.

He has stayed locked in his study with only his beta having access to enter. But I was done, enough with the silent treatment.

I was going to talk to him whether he wanted to or not. The news of his office getting burnt was everywhere, I tried to talk to him that day and console me but he shut me up.

I marched to his study angrily, pounding my fist on the door.

"Who is that? Do you want to break the door?" His voice called from inside but I didn't stop, if anything I pounded more on the door.

The door opened and my fist almost collided with his chest, I quickly retracted my hand.

"What do you want?" He groaned.

"What do I want? Seriously Darius? This is what you say to me after avoiding me for days?" I laughed.

"Come in." He said opening the door wider for me to step in.

I walked past him, going to sit on the couch.

"Why are you here Iris?" He asked.

Normally, I would have argued with him. Tell him I'm not Iris that I'm Vickie but I didn't have the strength for that.

"I want us to talk." I replied.

He sat on the couch opposite mine, crossing his legs and losing his tie a little.

I sucked in a deep breath, my eyes refusing to leave his posture. The way he was sitting looked like the kind you see in movies where the mafia boss gives orders.

"Are you going to stare at me for the rest of the day or do you want to talk?" He asked, snapping me out of my dumbfounded state.

I tore my eyes away from him, shaking my head slightly.

"I'm sorry about your office." I whispered.

"I don't need your sympathy." He said harshly.

"What problem do you have with me? You have been acting this way since I came back. If there is anything I did wrong tell me and I will apologize." I yelled.

He looked taken back but he quickly composed himself. "Tell me why I shouldn't act this way with you when you have been lying to me. Do you know how much I hate liars?"

"I'm not lying to...."

"Of course, I knew you would say that." He interrupted me.

"If that is the only reason you came to my office you might as well leave." He continued, pointing to the door.

"Are you chasing me out of your office?" I demanded.

"I'm not chasing you out of my office, I want you to leave." He responded.

"Why Darius?"

"Because you are lying to me. You think I don't know? That Vickie is pregnant? How foolish do you guys think I am exactly?" He shouted, standing up from where he was sitting.

"How did you..." I couldn't complete my sentence, he already knows everything. There is nothing I can say to defend this at all.

But how did he find out about her pregnancy?

"You are shocked right? Well you should be." He growled.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." I trailed off, what should I say? I can't deny anything he already knows. And he will send me out of his house and both Vickie and I will face the consequences.

No, I can't let this happen.

"Provoke you." I said.

"But you are wrong Darius, I'm not pregnant. How could I be pregnant." I continued the act of being Vickie, standing up and pressing on my stomach to show him how flat it was.

"Fucking Iris, have you forgotten we are mates? If you are not Iris then why does my wolf keep screaming at me to claim you? If you are Iris then why does my heart race whenever I'm close to you." He growled, stepping closer to me.

Before I could process his next action, his hand reached up to my face and pulled at my fake mole removing it. I quickly covered the area with my hands.

"If you aren't Iris then explain to me why your mole came off." He said lowly, raising the fake mole for me to see.

I dropped my hands to my side defeatedly. I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out.

"You don't have to lie to me anymore Iris, you can be free from the guilt. You think I haven't noticed how guilty you look these days? I have seen everything Iris, I have let you play with me this far and it's enough."

"My father can't know about this." I whispered out.

"Even in this situation all you can think about is your father? Do you care about his opinion that much?" He hissed.

"You don't know anything Darius, I have had to live my whole life in fear and have to follow his rules. Never for once go out of line so don't stand there and tell me what to care about." I shouted, tears dropping down to my cheeks.

He pulled me into his warm embrace. My face against his chest as I continued sobbing wetting his shirt but he didn't mind at all.

I should push him away, I hate being vulnerable in front of people.

So why am I not pushing him away?

"I'm sorry, I was just really pissed." He whispered and I almost choked. Did he just apologize to me? Darius just apologized, that is something I never expected would happen even in a million years.

"It's okay, it's not your fault." I said between cries.

He started patting my hair and it was really helping me calm down. I had already stopped sobbing but tears were still dropping from my eyes.

"I didn't mean to lie to you, trust me. Please forgive me." I whispered.

"It's okay Iris but you have to promise me never to lie to me again." He replied.

Can I really promise him that?

Promise him that I will never lie to him when I'm not sure myself.
