Chapter 40 Chapter forty

Chapter 40 Chapter forty

Darius POV

What did I do that for?

Was I really going to divorce her? No, maybe I just wanted her to break a little, maybe she will open up to me.

Nathan already confirmed my assumptions but I want her to say it herself. I hate the fact that she is lying to me, it makes me feel like I'm being betrayed.

My phone rang and I picked it up without checking the caller's name.

"Hey there Darius, how are you doing?" My uncle's voice came through the phone.

Damn, I totally forgot about his existence.

"I'm okay you?" I returned.

"Never been better." He said and from the way his voice sounded I could tell he was happy.

"Is there something going on I didn't know?" I asked him.

"Oh nothing, just on vacation." He replied.

"Vacation?" I repeated and he hummed.

"I thought you said you weren't going to be taking any vacation again until next year."

"Yeah I said that but I changed my mind. Anyways, I just wanted to check up on you, since you have totally forgotten about my existence." He replied.

"You know it's not like that, I have just been really busy with work." I groaned.

"Of course, I knew you were going to say that. Anyways, bye, my masseuse is here now." With that he ended the call.

I removed my phone from my ear and dialed Nathan's number.

"Five minutes." I said as he picked the call, and ended it without waiting for him to respond.

He already knew what I meant, I was giving him five minutes to get here with my car. I changed my clothes while I waited for him. He sent me a message informing me that he is outside.

I left my room heading outside, I passed by the dining room door and wondered if Iris was still there. I almost peered inside but refrained myself.

I got outside and got into the car. "Good morning Boss." Nathan greeted me and I hummed.

"To the office." I said.

"Yes boss." He started the car ride. Nathan was the one driving me today, my driver took a break from work. Said something about his wife putting to bed.

"Alpha are you seeing this?" Nathan said as we got close to the office, my eyes trailed what he was pointing at. My office building was on fire and not just a small fire it was very huge.

"Stop the car Nathan." I barked and he stopped the car. I didn't wait for the car to finish slowing down before I'm out of it, running to the direction of the fire fighters who were already there but seemed to be doing nothing.

"What the fuck are you standing here for? Quench the fire." I yelled at them.

They cowered back in fear. "We have been trying but it seems to be getting bigger with every attempt." The bald one who I presume to be the leader stuttered out.

"How come nobody thought it was right to call me." I hissed, running my hands through my hair.

"Did you know about this Nathan?" I demanded as he stood beside me.

"No boss, I didn't pass this way when I was coming to the house so I didn't see it." He answered.

"Is there anybody inside there?" I asked the firefighters.

"The only person in there ran out I think. She is over there with the paramedics." He gestured to where the paramedics car was packed.

I turned walking straight to the car with Nathan walking beside me. I saw the girl there, she was being treated but it didn't look like she had any injury at all.

"Alpha Darius, Good morning." She greeted me when she saw me. The paramedic team bowed their heads.

"Are you okay?" I questioned.

"Yes Alpha, I'm okay. Just a little scratch while I was running down the staircase." She responded.

I looked at her elbow, there was a little plaster there, telling me that was where she was scratched.

"Are there any workers in there? How did the fire start?" I bombarded her with questions.

"I don't know exactly where the fire started but I think towards your office, and then there are some workers stuck in the elevator." She answered.

I don't even have to worry much about my office, fire can't get inside. And neither do I have to worry about the people in the elevator getting burnt but sooner or later they will lack oxygen.

The elevator will get hot, and If it gets too hot it can explode.

"We need to get them out of there Nathan." I shouted at him and he nodded his head frantically.

We ran back to the firefighters. "They are people stuck in the elevator, is there any way we can get them out?" Nathan asked.

"I don't think so, the elevator would have caught fire along with the building by now." One of the firefighters responded.

"No, it can't."

"You need to get them out of there, that is your duty to save lives." I yelled at them. They scurried away, attempting to quench the fire again.

What I don't understand now is why the fire alarm hadn't alerted the workers in there, and why they didn't try to use the fire extinguishers to quench the fire before it spread this much.

Or they didn't know until the fire got too much and that only means one thing.

Someone turned off the fire alarm, and that same person is the one that started the fire. It can't be one of the workers, I doubt any of them will be that stupid.

The person that started the fire would have left ages ago. The question now is why and who?

I need to find answers, I can't wait for these morons that call themselves fire fighters to finish whatever they are doing so I can check the CCTV camera in my office and outside the building.

"Alpha," Nathan called, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Yes?" I asked, turning to face him.

"A letter came for you." He answered, holding out a letter for me.

I took it, tearing the envelope and flipping the letter open.

"This is just the beginning." It was written in bold letters.
