Chapter 24 Chapter 24
Darius POV
"This way sirs." A man in his mid forties said, leading I and Nathan to Donovan Steele's office. I had a lot of free time and decided why not pay him a visit now.
The man opened the door and we stepped into his office. "To whom do I owe this surprise visit." Donovan said, his voice already annoying me.
He stood up from his chair, walking towards us. He held his hand out for me and I took it. "Darius Acrux." I introduced myself.
"I know who you are, silly. I have heard news about you." He replied, slapping my chest playfully.
The fucking audacity of this man, acting like we are buddies. I do know him, he is older than me by about twenty years but in my line of business age is just a number.
"That's not why I'm here Donovan." I said cutting to the chase.
"Right, have your seat." He gestured to the couch in his office.
I sat down, Nathan sitting beside me. "Now, let's put casualty aside. Why are you here Alpha Darius." Donovan said coldly.
Wow, it didn't even take long before he showed his true self.
"Who paid you?" I asked a simple question, keeping my eyes on him.
He didn't bat an eye, just continued staring right back at me. "Paid me for what?" He finally talked.
"Paid you to kill Iris." I said, I watched as fear flashed in his eyes. But it was gone as soon as it came, I would have missed it if I wasn't staring at him.
"You think I wouldn't find out? The fool you sent snitched on you." I spat.
I watched as he clenched and unclenched his fists. "I don't owe you an explanation Darius." He growled.
"Ohh you do. Nobody hurts what's mine and gets away with it." I hissed.
"And what's yours? Iris? I heard you are getting married to her sister." He said looking at him, hoping I would get scared because of what he said.
"That's not what I'm here for Donovan. Who fucking paid you?" I asked again.
He laughed, looking away from me for a minute before looking back at me. "Her soon to be husband's father." He said putting on a serious demeanor.
That definitely scared me. Iris is getting married and to the son of the man that almost killed her. How could her father sit by and watch this happily?
Is that how little he cares about her? What am I even thinking? I know he doesn't care about her but this is pure madness. I'm sure he knows the man is responsible for almost killing his daughter. All because of some investment?
"He is talking about Alaric Greene's father, Daniel Greene. Alpha of the crescent moon pack." Nathan said from beside me lowly so only I could hear.
"So now that you know, what are you going to do about it." Donovan said, looking at me for answers.
I stood up abruptly from the chair, Nathan following suit. "What I am going to do is none of your business." I said harshly.
"We are done here." I hissed and walked out of his office.
"I want you to find out everything about Daniel Greene." I said to Nathan as soon as we entered the car.
"Yes boss." He replied.
I can't let Iris get married to his son. Scratch that, I can't let her get married to any man. How Leonard can do this to his daughter is still surprising me.
But what did I expect from him, he is a cold hearted monster. I need to find out everything about Daniel Greene today.
Tomorrow is my wedding and once that ends Iris wedding is next. I have to do everything to make sure that the wedding doesn't hold. I can't imagine what would happen to her if she got married to his son.
"Nathan, I need the whole information before the day runs out." I commanded him.
"Alright boss, I will have everything ready by evening." He responded.
I checked my phone, hoping Iris has texted me but she hasn't. She didn't even send a simple 'hi'.
I'm starting to think maybe she meant what she said in the car after all. I really need to forget about her, I'm getting married tomorrow and I'm here thinking about another woman.
"Let's stop by the flower shop. I need to pick something up." I said to the driver.
"Okay Alpha." He replied, changing directions. I don't even know why I am going to the flower shop. Maybe I do but I don't want to admit it.
I glanced outside the car through the window, admiring the way we were driving through the city in a blur. "We are here Alpha." The driver called my attention.
I got down from the car, Nathan following closely behind me. "Good afternoon, is there a particular flower you are looking for?" The florist asked.
I shook my head, looking at the flowers that were on display. One caught my eye the orange lilies. That particular one managed to stand out from the rest just the way Iris does.
The lilies also refer to her confidence, energy and pride. "Wrap that one up for me." I told the woman, gesturing to the flowers I wanted.
"I must say you have a very good taste. Your girlfriend is so lucky to have you." She said with a smile.
I chuckled, not correcting her that she is wrong. That I'm not buying the flowers for my girlfriend, I let her believe it. In fact I liked the way she said it.
I don't know what exactly I and Iris are at the moment but I know she is anything but my enemy. She handed the flowers to me and Nathan paid.
As we got back into the car, I handed the flowers over to Nathan. "Send this to her by six PM." I ordered and he nodded his head. I didn't need to say the name of who I wanted him to deliver the flowers to, he already knew.
I continued staring outside the window, but I wasn't focused on the view outside anymore. I was wondering if she would like the flowers.
What if she dislikes them and likes roses instead. Should I go back there and get her rose too, I mean she can just pick her favorite out of the two but something tells me she will like this one.
Then something clicked in my head. I'm not supposed to be sending her flowers, what if her father sees it and thinks she is talking to other guys and tries to hasten her wedding, no I can't send this to her.
"Give me back the flowers Nathan." I said and he handed them back to me.
He looked at me maybe to read why I asked for the flowers back suddenly.
"I will invite her on a date." I said simply and he nodded his head.
Going on a date with your soon to be wife sister a day before your wedding isn't something nice but I don't care.
I pulled out my phone and sent her a text. She read the message instantly and the typing bubbles appeared, my heart thudding in my chest as I waited for her reply.
My phone dinged as her reply came in.
'Yes.’
