Chapter 85 - Good Morning

The rest of the night was pretty much a blur, and I could remember Sin sitting right next to me, feeding me till I couldn't take anymore. I drifted off to sleep with his fingers in mine, slowly caressing the inside of my palm, my head leaning close to where he was sitting.

My eyes fluttered open, and I let out a sigh. Tingles filled my face and lips, and I turned, my breath held with anticipation of waking up to Sin. The hospital room was slightly dark despite the fact that I could tell it was already morning from the streaks of sunlight filtering into the room through the small cracks in the otherwise closed curtains.

I turned, and Sin was lying right next to my bed, his eyes closed, his hair slightly disheveled. The sun was filtering in through the drapes, and I could see his lashes moving uncomfortably as he adjusted closer, trying to seek a darker place.

I pushed myself forward, then leaned to him, my shadow casting over him and shielding him from the sun. He immediately settled, the crease in his brows straightening, his body relaxing again.

I leaned to him, using my left hand to keep my balance, my eyes taking in every bit of him. His skin still carried those scars, and I gently dabbed on them, hoping to wipe them off. The blood was dry, and it didn't do much.

I sighed, my eyes leaving the scars to take in the rest of him. He was even more beautiful now than when I had seen him for the first time. Was it because he now had emotions that were not coldness or restrained, calm anger? Was it because I had seen tears in his eyes last night, and I had known they were meant for me?

I moved close, my fingers gently lacing in his hair. He didn't stir, and I chuckled to myself. It was the very first time I saw him so asleep. So defenseless. I could tell the amount of trust it took such a dangerous man to lie next to me like he trusted me to protect him. To kill for him. To die for him.

Is this what love was always supposed to feel like? To die, and to kill?

A knock came on the door, and I looked up, my lips parting. The door opened, and a doctor stepped in, a small, polite smile on his face.

"I see you are awake," he said, then walked close to me.

His eyes fell on Sin before his smile brightened again. "I see Sin came back."

I swallowed hard. "Did he leave?"

He shrugged. "You asked him too."

I bit down on my lips. "That was..."

"He was very flustered. Very scared. I don't know what is between you both, but he is genuinely afraid to lose you. It was actually very strange seeing a man like Sin, ... weak."

I chuckled, my eyes falling back on Sin. He was still asleep, his face emotionless, peaceful.

"Nurse, open the drapes and..."

"Don't," I said, cutting the doctor off.

"What?"

"Sin won't be able to sleep. Please just leave the drapes until he wakes up."

The doctor smiled, then nodded. "That is alright. We will administer your medicines now, then come back later. Hopefully, he will be awake then so I can tell him you are fine and ready to go."

I could see the glint of mischief in his eyes as he gestured to the nurse who came forward with a few injections. I adjusted, keeping my fingers in Sin's hair and caressing down to his nape while the nurse administered the injections.

Once she finished, the doctor checked me once more before he turned away, closing the door behind me.

I sighed, looking back at Sin. He was definitely exhausted, and I lay back next to him, adjusting my body to him, my fingers slowly caressing his skin.

Before I knew it, I started to drift off to sleep again, my lips close to his face, my hands resting on his skin.

I woke up to wetness on my skin, and my eyelids fluttered open. The first thing I saw was Sin. He was sitting next to me on the bed now, his upper body hovering above me, his hands dabbing a wet towel around my face.

"Sin?"

He hummed an answer before moving away to drop the towel. "How do you feel?"

I tore my eyes away from his face, and that was when I saw it. He had his shirt unbuttoned to the last, his skin open, as he adjusted on the bed. I immediately felt heat rise up my cheeks, my lips parting, but no words escaping them.

"Are you okay?"

I met his eyes, then immediately nodded. "Yes. Definitely. I... I was just... a bit flustered."

He raised a brow, and I swallowed again.

"Well, by the show."

He looked down at his body, then looked back up at me. "What about it?"

I shrugged. "I mean, it's... it's just..."

He suddenly cupped my chin and brought me to look at him, my eyes meeting his eyes.

"Sin," I breathed, my chest heaving.

He gave a small one-sided smile. "You are pretty innocent, getting all riled up over upper body skin."

"I... I was just... I just..."

He chuckled, then shook his head, letting go of my chin. "How about you let us go home? I don't think the doctors will approve here."

I bit down on my lips. "Since when have you cared for approval?"

His eyes darkened, and I knew I was playing a dangerous game, but what was the thrill of life is not danger? What made life worth living if not moments like these?

"You are right," he said, moving even closer, his eyes taking me in. "I do not care for approval."

My heart did a triple jump, my insides melting away. "I... I..."

He pulled me closer, his fingers cupping the small of my back. "But it is my wish to treat you like a proper woman. In a proper bed."

I blinked hard, trying my hardest to regain my composure. He smiled, then leaned forward, kissing the edge of my lips. I don't think I will ever get used to him kissing me.

"Good morning to you too, Annalise."

I sighed, nodding slowly. "Good morning."

Hell, I was looking forward to a whole lot of mornings if each one is going to be like this.
