Chapter 78 - However long it takes

SIN'S P.O.V.

"There is no doctor available right now. Most of them are either on their off days or..."

"This is urgent! Get me a doctor."

"I am very sorry, sir, but... the doctors do not want to take anyone right now. They are on an off day and..."

I nodded slowly and backed away, my eyes scanning the hospital. I hadn't carried a gun or and it was just me, like a fucking commoner.

I looked down at Annalise. She was pale, her eyes still closed. Her lashes were wet, and I couldn't stand seeing it anymore.

I adjusted her in my arms, then made my way to the elevator. I knew the doctor's offices were on the fourth floor, and once we got there, I got off and immediately headed to the first one I saw.

"Did you not hear? I am getting ready to leave and..."

I pushed the door open before he could finish and stepped into the office. A bespectacled elderly man was sitting behind the desk, his brows furrowed in confusion.

His eyes took me in, and I could see recognition spread on his face. "Sin?"

"I have not come as Sin today. I have come as a husband. Save my wife."

He looked down at Annalise, his eyes wide with both surprise and shock. "I... we decided not to work today due to the harsh working conditions and..."

"I will give you whatever you want. You could build your own hospital. You could leave the country. Just make sure she comes back to me."

"Sin," he said, his voice low. He sighed, his eyes leaving mine to settle on Annalise again. "I will take her."

An hour passed, and through the blur of the nurses taking Annalise from me, the doctor attending to her, I could barely understand much.

I was still waiting outside, my feet tapping on the floor, my eyes closed as I waited anxiously. I wish I could erase this from her memory. I wish I could get rid of the pain that I had caused.

"Sin?" I looked up, and the doctor was standing above me.

"She is fine. Must have been a great amount of stress."

I nodded slowly, then stood up. "Give me your card. I will hand it to my assistant."

He gave a small smile. "It is perfectly fine, Sin. You looked completely shattered to see your wife like that, and I sort of... remembered my wife. She passed away from a heart attack two years ago."

I wasn't sure what to say. "I..."

"It is fine. Just take care of your wife. And honestly, I would have expected you to barge in with a gun or something. She must be doing such a great job."

He smiled again and walked away, and I just stood there, watching the path he had taken. Maybe she was doing a good job. It made me smile a little, and I pushed my hands into my pockets.

Slowly, I made my way to the ward Annalise was in, then stopped at the door to catch my breath. It was silent inside, and I opened the door.

Annalise was lying in bed, her hair sprawled all over the pillow. I covered the distance to her, my eyes taking in every tiny detail of her.

She seemed to be asleep, and I quietly sat next to her. She still looked a little pale, but she had regained some of her warm colors, her lips half parted.

"Annalise?"

There was no response, and I sighed, my fingers running across the back of her ear to tuck her hair away. I let my eyes follow the trail of my fingers, distracting me a little from her face.

"What are you doing here?"

I turned to her, and her eyes were open, but they weren't soft. She looked angry, livid.

"Annalise..."

"Leave, Sin. I don't want to see you right now."

I swallowed, my hand leaving her skin, missing it as soon as I did. "I am sorry. You passed out and..."

"Just leave!" She yelled, her eyes still holding mine. "You can't do anything now, so just leave."

"Annalise," I said, then slowly stood up. "I can't leave you here alone. I need to take you home. "

"Home?"

I know I was being shameless, but I nodded. "Home. With me. Please let me do that."

Her lips quivered, and she turned away, her eyes blinking rapidly.

"I will bring a driver, then. If you don't want to see my face right now, I won't appear in front of you. Just let me take you home."

She sniffed hard, and I slowly covered the distance and leaned to her height, my hand cupping her face, my thumb running across her cheek.

"I am sorry," I whispered against her lips as I felt her shaky breath on mine.

"Just leave," she said again. "I will come home, but just leave."

I must have really begun to go crazy because I could feel my heart leap at the fact that she had said home. That she considered my place home.

"I will wait," I said, my eyes closing briefly. "However long it takes."

She didn't reply, and I slowly moved upwards, kissing her forehead. She leaned into me, but I could still feel her resistance. I could still feel the resentment.

I pulled away, then watched her for a long minute. I won't be able to tuck her in. Pat her hair till she fell asleep. Watch her all night. I gritted my teeth lightly and turned away, hating myself with every step I had to take away from her.

I finally reached home and carefully packed up a few dresses for her. Everything she needed. My butler would be going to watch her in the hospital, and I hoped it wouldn't take too long for her to come back.

Once I was done, I sat on the bed, my room feeling emptier than ever. The loneliness threatened to suck me in, and for the first time ever, not even Angel could fill the gap.

"Dad?"

I forced a smile as she walked in. "Angel. Come here."

She looked around, her brows furrowed. "Did you finally throw her away?"

My brow raised. "What?"

"The aunt. Did you throw her away? Will you like me again?"

I leaned to her. "Who taught you that?"

"Daddy..."

"Who taught you that, Angel?"
