Chapter 85 New Car
Chapter 85 New Car
\[LANCE'S HOUSE\]
Lance paid off the taxi driver while removing his phone from DND. After Angel's call, he didn't want to receive any other call particularly from some special kind of people. It wasn't long before notifications started trolling in—Headlines, trending news. His brow narrowed at the news that just popped up. Another came—same news. More and more of the same news kept popping.
Frustrated, he raised the phone up in the air, in an attempt to smash it, but he folded his palm around, drawing in a long breath.
Having calmed down, he opened the one that just appeared. The first thing that caught his eyes was the wedding card. Taking a closer look at the names, he saw Sara McKenzie and Cassian Reid.
His finger scrolled up, reading the news attached to the photo. A laugh he didn't know when it kissed his lips escaped his throat. He left the website, and Lalissa's picture appeared on his home screen.
He kissed the picture. "Even the world wants us together."
"Pookie bear!" A little girl screamed happily running out of the house.
Lance pocketed his phone, going low on his knees.
She jumped into his arms, and he lifted her, going on his feet.
"You are finally here," she said in a small, tiny voice.
"You insisted. I had to come." Lance caressed her back, and pecked her shoulder.
"It was the only way to get you to come here." She broke the hug and looked at his face. "It seems like you keep forgetting you have a little sister."
"But, your nanny is here—"
"I don't want my nanny."
Lance became worried. "What happened? Is she treating you bad?"
"No. She's the nicest lady, but I'm tired of living like I only have a nanny when I have a loving brother to take care of me."
"Fine." Lance knew arguing with her was a waste of time. "What do you want?"
"I want us to have our breakfast together."
"But—"
Angel made sour faces, folded her arms, turned to the side. She wanted to climb down from his body, but he stopped her.
"I was just joking."
Her hands flew up in the air. "Yay!!! You are the best."
Lance nodded smilingly as he pinched her cheek, bringing her down. "I'd do anything you ask."
"I know." He looked past her shoulders. "Where is your nanny?"
"She's inside. Hurry up let's go in before you'll get a call from your work."
They went in, and at the same time, somebody was about coming out. She almost collided with Lance, but Lance saw her beforehand.
He held her shoulders. "Watch out."
"Sorry," she muttered, and shifted to the side.
"How are you doing, Hazel?"
Hazel smiled. "With Angel here, there's no reason to not be okay."
Angel grabbed Lance's hand, "Enough talking, let's go."
"I have to know if you're troubling your nanny."
"Aunt Hazel, am I troubling you?" Angel blinked cutely.
Hazel laughed, and shook her head. "Angel is a good girl. Her teachers praise her a lot."
"See brother. I pay attention to you. You told me if I want to get a new tab, I should Ace my exams."
Lance caressed her cheeks. "And I mean it."
"I'll go and get your food," Hazel said when Lance and Angel made their way to the dining.
When Lance was about to sit, his phone rang out.
His gaze travelled to Hazel, and he saw the fallen look on her face as she sat.
Sliding his phone out from his pants, his face lit with satisfaction when he saw the caller. He didn't waste any minute before taking the call.
"Okay."
"Send your details."
"I'm making the payment now."
He ended the call looking at Angel with happiness written all over his face.
"Guess what your big bro is about to do."
"Leave for work," Angel replied lazily and sadly.
"I'm getting for us a car."
The sadness disappeared from Angel's face. "You are joking?"
"I'm serious!"
"Does it mean we wouldn't have to go everywhere in a taxi again?"
"Hm."
"This is so great." She came down from her chair, ran to him and hugged his leg. "You are the best brother one could ever ask for."
Lance ruffled her hair. "I couldn't have asked for a better cute little sister."
The clink of the plate made them realize Hazel's presence as they broke the siblings' affections.
"Congratulations," Hazel said.
"Thank you." Lance nodded, gesturing at the chair. "Join us." He scooped Angel to his lap and gave her the first bite.
Taking the fork back to the plate, his mind flickered to a number of good news he's received in one day. The wedding card that's circulating on the internet—the amazing news of the year, and the car he's buying—his and Lalissa's car.
The mortuary attendants pushed Dr. Reuben's dead body into the mortuary while Cassian and Ziggy trailed behind them.
Soon, the owner appeared. Cassian's eyes scanned the boy who looked like he'd be in his early twenties.
"How may I help you?" The boy asked, glancing at the both of them respectively. "Dr. Reuben's relative?"
"Where is your father?" Ziggy asked.
The boy frowned. "If you aren't a relative of Dr. Reuben, then you should leave. My dad doesn't let strangers meet with him."
"Will you call him out respectfully, or do I have to force you?" Ziggy asked, a dangerous smirk tingling at the corner of his lips.
The boy's eyes met with Cassian. He gulped fearfully, seeing the cold glare Cassian threw at him.
"W...who are you both? It's a strict instruction we...ahhh!!!" A loud scream left his throat as he jumped up.
Ziggy blew out smoke from the barrel, pointing it to the boy.
"If I spend another minute without your father before me, the next bullet would cripple you," Cassian’s demanding threats came out in raw darkness as he burned the trembling boy with his eyes.
"I... I'll go and call him," the boy nodded repeatedly and ran inside the back door.
It wasn't long before the boy appeared with his father right beside him. The man had a walking stick with him, and his hair was almost covered in grey.
Cassian's eyes didn't leave the man as he stood in front of him with a scowl on his face. His weak son must have told him what happened.
"If you don't leave here, I'll call the police on you."
"You can do that, but first of all, I need answers from you."
The man's frown deepened, his brow furrowed. "Answers? In a morgue? You have lost it."
"No, I haven't," Cassian smiled, not the welcome type, rather the type that screamed his patience was elapsing and once he gets enough of the annoying nature, he'll take care of them in a way he sees fit.
Ziggy placed a chair behind him, and he sat, looking up at the old man. "Nineteen years ago, an accident victim's body was brought in here."
"Nineteen..."
"I need every information concerning that particular dead body. His name is Richard McKenzie."
Silence covered the room for some seconds before the old man broke out.
"Daniel! Call the police! Get these mad men out of my morgue! The media! Every—" he felt a cold metal to his forehead.
"Shush," Ziggy hushed the old man, pressing the gun to the man's forehead. "You wouldn't want to make an enemy with a gun, right?"
The man quivered.
"Get the gun away from him! Don't shoot my father!"
"We don't want to, but he's pushing us hard," Cassian replied, resting his elbow on his knee. "If he decides to comply, his life will be spared, otherwise, he isn't too young to die."
"I... I'll do whatever you ask. G...get the gun away! Get it out!"
"That's what I wanted to hear," Cassian smiled, gesturing at Ziggy to take the gun down.
"What do you want?" The man asked.
"Details. The event that occurred here nineteen years ago."
\--
Getting outside of the morgue, Cassian's face was darker than before. His eyes were cloudy as the storm, looking like they wanted to shed blood—blood of a particular person.
"From what the man said, it—" Ziggy's phone buzzed, making him pause in his speech.
Checking the notification, he saw it was his IG, from Bella.
Sexy rose: The hell is the news attached to your boss. She sent with a double angry emoji.
A picture was attached to the text, and he clicked it.
"Fuck," he cussed. "You're on the news."
"I'm always on the news," Cassian replied, heading to the car.
"It's a different reason. Your wedding card—"
Cassian didn't allow Ziggy to finish before he got his phone and checked the latest trending news.
"She did exactly what I thought."
"What should I do? Pull it down?"
Cassian's finger hovered on the screen, eyes dark as he read what the card entailed. "Leave it. Let it sit there for a while. She wants to trend."
He was about to keep his phone when he saw a text from his little doll. The first thing he checked was the time, and he saw the text was sent three hours ago.
"Shit." He pushed his hair backward, growing an instant anger at missing her text. He should have found a chance to check his phone. Though the news might not bother him, he knows she'd be hurt by the news.
He opened the text, and his brow came together at the context, though he didn't know why it was enough to spike his confusion.
Little doll: Let's meet tonight by seven. Halo hotel.
