Chapter 83 I Am Yours

Chapter 83 I Am Yours
Mrs. Nora paced around, brows ached in worried expression as she watched Cassian dial Lalissa's number.
No answer.
"Did she mention whom she was going to see?" Cassian asked.
Mrs. Nora shook her head negatively. "She came back from the office and didn't mention anything to me. Next I saw her, she was rushing out of the house. I tried to stop her but she had already left."
"Shit," he muttered beneath his breath. At first she wasn't answering her call. Next, her phone was suddenly switched off.
"Ziggy," he spoke through the phone. "Lissa isn't home. Begin—"
The door clicked open, and Lalissa's scent hit the air.
"Lissa." Mrs. Nora pulled her into a tight embrace. "Where were you?"
Lalissa melted into the hug, forcing a reassuring smile. "I had something to take care of. It was urgent."
"Boss—" Ziggy's voice brought Cassian's mind back to the call.
"Nevermind. She's home," he pressed the red button.
"Don't scare us like this again."
Lalissa's eyes flickered to Cassian, before returning back to Mrs. Nora. "I won't."
Mrs. Nora smiled. "I'll go and set the dining."
She left, and now it's Cassian and Lalissa in the sitting room. He was giving her his deepening soul stare. The type that unravels her so slowly that every secret she hides starts to come out on its own.
She avoided his gaze. "I... I'll go and freshen up."
She had barely taken the third step when he grabbed her hand and crossed over to her face.
Gripping her face in a tight cup—not to hurt her—enough to make her look directly in his eyes.
"What happened?"
"W... Nothing," she replied, trying to look away, but his hold was so tight that she couldn't look away even if she wanted to.
"Who did you go to see?" His eyes hovered over her body.
His eyes caught her forearm. He traced his finger to it. "Red marks?"
Lalissa dragged her body away. "It's nothing," she mumbled, and wanted to leave, but he stopped her, this time his grey eyes had been replaced by complete darkness.
"Who touched you?"
His dark eyes went back to Lalissa's face. Lalissa's blood ran cold just by staring at the eyes.
"Fucking answer me!" He roared.
Lalissa flinched. "Lance."
As if heavens were not on her side, his eyes landed on her lips. Swollen and red.
She saw the lines of veins stretched in his neck as he released her.
"Did he..." he grabbed the car keys, and speed walked to the door.
The door slammed very hard that it shook the entire building.
Lalissa ran after him, and stood in front of the car door before he could get in.
"Leave Lalissa," he said, his voice deep and heavy with anger.
"Don't." Immediately she wrapped her hand around him, pulling him into a deep hug. "He didn't mean to."
"I won't do a thing," he replied, balling his fist with the keys in-between his palm purposely letting the key pierce him.
She shook her head against his chest. "He didn't mean to do it. Don't go to him. He's hurt." She raised her face up, lips puckered as she gave him puppy cute eyes. "Please."
"He dared to touch you. He kissed you. He left his mark on you—"
"And I slapped him. Trust me when I say he didn't do it intentionally. We've been friends for long. I know him."
"Not every close long lasted relationship deserves to be taken into the friendship line." His fold around the car keys lessened a bit. "Friends won't do the shit he did to you."
"I know that, but please," she batted her lids. "For my sake, don't go to him."
Cassian kept quiet, the anger still raw and unforgiving in his chest. That bastard deserves no mercy. How dare he touch what belongs to him? He kissed, and—even if he wanted mercy, a clear 'stay away from what's mine' bullet would have subsided half of the rage within, but now—he has to stand here, keys in his hand, fire in his chest and stare at his woman with another man's mark all over her.
He turned around, and dragged his hand through his hair. It's hard to forget. Hard to control. His hand is shaking. The more he thought about it, he could feel his anger intensifying.
Bastard.
He felt Lalissa's soft hand curl around him from behind, and her fingers rubbing his abs in slow motion.
She planted a kiss on his back. "I belong to you. Only you."
With a sharp turn, his hand cupped her neck in a tight choking hold—not to hurt her. A reminder of whom she belonged to.
Lalissa's breath caught. Her lips parted because of the hold, and she felt little air leaving her chest.
Her thoughts got clogged when he molded his lips in an obscene possessive way. He kissed like he was trying to remove every trace of Lance's lips on her. He claimed like he was marking his territory on her, not bothering to remind her, owning her. He devoured her lips like a beast starved for years all while holding her throat.
Lalissa's palm slammed on the car, rubbed his chest, gripped his shirt, fisted his hair all while trying to look for a perfect place to hold him.
A car honked.
Mom!
Her mind screamed, eyes snapped open.
She tried to push Cassian away, breathing "mom" in-between the kiss.
But Cassian didn't budge. It felt like the beast in him had been released because he kept kissing her not making an attempt to break it.
The car honked again.
Lalissa panicked.
"Cass...mom," she breathed, and he broke the kiss. Luckily for her, and unluckily for him.
He rubbed her lips. "Always remember you belong to no one. You are mine," he growled, the darkness in his eyes getting replaced by something else.
Lalissa kissed his finger. "I am yours."
By the time the car drove in, Cassian and Lalissa were standing like normal people pretending like nothing happened with Cassian badly wishing to say screw it to every rule and let Sara know no wedding is happening between them both. Her daughter is his.
Sara got out of her car, and at that same time, Cassian's phone buzzed with a text.
Cassian read the text. From Ziggy.
~Dr. Reuben was found dead in his office.
Lalissa noticed the change in his eyes. "Did something happen?"
"I'll be right back." Without waiting for anything further he drove into his car, and sped away, at the same time Sara is getting to Lalissa.
Just before Lalissa could talk, Sara's phone vibrated.
Sara was with her phone, so it was easy to catch sight of the text.
~Job is done.
Her lips stretched, slowly, until it turned into a large smile that reached her ears.
"Mom."
\[MERRYLAND HOSPITAL, DR. REUBEN'S OFFICE\]
Cassian rushed in, and halted on his tracks when he saw Dr. Reuben sitting on his chair, his head resting lifelessly on the right side, a bullet hole on his stomach.
"Somebody else is faster," Ziggy broke the silence. "The person knew we are investigating Richard's death case."
"Have you checked the camera footage?"
"It's a clean job. I found nothing." He turned the laptop screen to themselves. "I found this laptop blank when I got here."
"It's expected," Cassian replied, his eyes darting around the office. "Dr. Reuben lost his life because of that same file. The person is doing everything to make sure I don't get my hands on it."
Ziggy cleared his throat. "Do you have anyone in mind?"
Cassian's eyes hit the shelves first, then drawer, Dr. Reuben and lastly the laptop.
"Send Dr. Reuben's body to the mortuary," he instructed, getting his phone to dial Dante's number.
Dante answered almost immediately.
"I need your help." He paused, waiting for Dante's reply.
"Have I ever said no to you? Tell me, what do you need?"
"Merryland hospital. Hack into their system. I need a copy of the hospital files starting from nineteen years ago."
