Chapter 78 My Lethal Damage
Chapter 78 My Lethal Damage
Edited Version:
Natasha sat on the bed, staring emptily into space.
Someone kept knocking repeatedly on her room, but she was too lost, or broken to reply. Reality has dawned on her. Everything she worked hard for. Her blood, sweat, tears, and dignity—all of them has gone down the brink of an eye.
The knock came again, forcefully knocking her out of her thoughts.
She stood with an angry grunt, and grabbed the worn-out scarf she saw in the room.
Wrapping herself carefully, she stormed out of the room, ready to lash out at the person, and kill the person if it's a classless fool. Her life has been ruined, and a fool isn't what she needed now.
She dragged the door open, and parted her lips to speak, but the person was faster. The person covered her mouth with his palm, and pushed her in, locking the door behind.
She almost fell if not for the table behind her. Standing, she faced the person with a death glare, not bothering to think about who it'll be. The person wore a face cap, and nose mask. It's obvious the person was hiding. The only thing in her mind was to end the fool who dared to touch her that way.
Leaving him there, she went inside, and soon reappeared with a broken knife. Her eyes were determined, her mind and soul ready to stab the person to death. That way, the person would know what it feels like to feel like a loser.
She raised the knife, and aimed for his chest.
The person held her hand before it could pierce through his chest.
Using the other hand, the person took off the disguise, and her eyes widened.
"Now, put that knife away from me," he jerked her hand down.
"Roman?" She shook her head. "What are you doing here!?"
"My life is in deep shit. I don't know who to go to. I've been hiding since we escaped from the factory."
"And how is that supposed to be my business!?" Natasha snapped, stabbing him with her eyes. "My life is on the news! With bad things! You think that's the kind of life I fucking want! To hide in this slum!" She pointed at his chest, hitting it hard. "It's all your fault. One silly mistake cost us a lot!"
Roman grabbed that finger, and squeezed it hard.
"Release me, Roman! You're hurting me!"
"You should have thought about that before pointing at me!" He returned the hateful glare, releasing her finger. "Working with you is my biggest mistake!! I was a fool to think you're smart enough! If I had known it was a shameless girl posing as one smart idiot, I wouldn't have—"
"Roman!!!" She raised the knife, and began going for his chest in full feral speed.
Roman was faster. He moved out of her way, and she slashed the air staggering.
Upon turning, Roman had already carried his own weapon. The same stool she had used to break the window.
"Don't think I'll play the nice guy. Come for me, and I'll smash this stool on your head!"
Natasha stood on her spot, breathing heavily like she'd have a heart attack. Her grip released on the knife, and it fell landing with a soft sound.
Roman did the same. The sound of their heavy raging breathing echoing in the room.
"Cassian has the upper hand. We failed," Roman said, his voice going down.
Natasha stayed silent, feeling pain in her shoulder.
She hasn't treated the gunshot properly. How she's still surviving was a miracle. The wound has reopened because of the clash she had with Roman.
"If I had known this was how it'd end, I wouldn't have gone to Cassian," he said, regret hinting at his voice. "I wouldn't have returned back to this country at all. At this rate we're no less than criminals."
Noticing the cold silence from Natasha, he was forced to look at her. "You aren't saying anything."
"That's because there's nothing for me and a pathetic fool to talk about," she hissed, worried about the piece of cloth that had been soaked with blood. "Help me with your piece of cloth."
Roman tore his shirt without arguing.
She loosened the original one, and tossed it to God knows where.
Roman looked away, the situation of his life weighing him down physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Natasha was soon done, and sat on the bare floor.
"You aren't giving up yet?" Roman asked curiously.
She lifted her lids without giving him a direct stare. "Giving up is not in Natasha's language."
"Aren't you tired!?" Roman yelled. "Cassian has shown us how much power he has. You're no match for him!"
"And you think I'll give up and be tagged a loser! Cassian started it. A game without an end is boring!"
"The hell—"
His cell phone caused an interruption.
Dad flashed brightly.
"Shit I forgot to switch off my phone," he cursed.
"You're free to answer. This environment isn't trackable," Natasha said nonchalantly.
Roman picked the call.
"H...hello Roman?"
Roman waited for some seconds before replying. "Dad?"
Sean coughed from the other end. Roman even got worried.
"Dad are you okay? I'm fine—"
"Glad to know that. But have you thought about it? Your Dad being fine?"
Somebody else said from the background.
Roman frowned, that new voice sounding extremely familiar.
His eyes widened when he recognized the voice. "Cass...ian!"
Natasha sprang up, and rushed closer to him.
"Cassian! Don't you dare touch my Dad, you fucking bastard!" he panicked. "I'll kill you if anything happens to my Dad!"
"Relax, your threats are useless," Cassian said heartlessly. "I have a surprise for you."
Sean's scream tore across the line, making Roman's blood run cold.
"Cassian!!! Leave my Dad out of it!!! Don't touch him! I'll do whatever you want! I'll hand myself over to the police if that's what you want. Just don't kill him!" He pleaded sickly.
Sean's scream went down.
"I like the sound of that," Cassian replied. "Now I want yourself here in the next thirty minutes."
"I... I'll be there," Roman's lips trembled.
He lowered the phone, and wanted to hang up when Cassian's voice sounded again.
"I hope you like the little surprise."
Natasha's brow knotted together. No doubt he was talking to her.
"I'll be waiting for you the day you'll decide to come out of your shell. But, you should know how my patience is. I'm not patient enough."
The call ended.
Roman didn't even wait for Natasha to say a thing before sprinting out of the house like a mad man.
"Thirty minutes! Thirty minutes." He chanted.
\[EDMUND'S MANSION\]
Cassian has been staring at Sean with a point-blank expression for the past twenty-five minutes. It felt as if he had forgotten how to blink or just chose to stare that way.
Sean kept gulping unnoticeably at the cold gaze Cassian threw at him. He could tell that Cassian's patience was thinning at the way his pupils dilated. He knew better than to make a sound. With that boring look Cassian gave him, he knew he wouldn't think twice before blowing off his skull, not when the thug flipped the gun in his right hand.
The gun looked thirsty for blood, and he definitely doesn't want his blood to feed it.
Ziggy's eyes were glued to his phone, fingers scrolling as he did what he knows best—stalking Bella's IG page.
Three minutes left.
The door burst open. Roman flew in, and landed in front of the table.
Placing both hands on it, he panted. High disturbing pants, like he ran all the way from the hideout.
His torn shirt was soaked with sweat as if he was beaten by heavy downpour.
"I...I'm here!" He managed to speak, breathing heavily.
It was supposed to be a two hours drive. But maybe the heavens are on his side, and decided to make it possible at twenty seven minutes. He can't count the number of times he ran on foot each time he came across a traffic. He did it.
Cassian blinked once, looking at his watch. "Three minutes early. I love your time ethics."
Roman dropped to his knees, and began crawling to Cassian.
"Please. I...swear, I won't come after you again. My dad and I... we'll leave the country. I promise we'll—"
Gunshots rent the air.
Roman pressed his lips together.
"You haven't been asked to speak. I'd suggest you keep your promises to yourself," Ziggy commanded, Roman's pleads annoying to his ear.
Roman nodded, not once, repeatedly.
Cassian cleared his throat, once. That single sound was enough to make father and son want to pee on their pants.
If they hadn't experienced it, they'd have said it's just rumour. Both his office cruelty, and revenge cruelty—in the face of the public, they're unclear rumours, but now, they are witnessing it. His cruelty isn't loud. It's calculated.
He stretched himself, his shirt clinging to his body. "The rat has decided to crawl out of his hole—"
His phone buzzed.
Pausing his sentence, he took out his phone.
My lethal damage.
Her name glowed like the sunshine she always carried wherever she goes.
He didn't need their permission before reading the text.
My lethal damage: Where are you? I'm bored here, and I miss you. Come back home. 🖤
Cassian dilated his eyes at the black heart emoji at the end of the text. He reread her message, trying to link the black emoji with the content of her text.
Is she trying to mess with my head?
His face turned serious, his brow furrowed together in tight confusion. He couldn't tell what the black heart meant.
He wanted to stand when he remembered the two fools that he was dealing with.
"I'd have loved to complete the game you started, but my damage needs my attention right now." He stood, pocketing his phone as he stared at both father and son coldly.
Did Lalissa follow him here to know the death he planned for them? Is that why she chose that weird emoji to draw his attention away.
Still, he couldn't let go of the fact that they have touched Lalissa.
Collecting the gun from Ziggy, he cocked it.
The men weren't given the opportunity to speak when bullets sliced the air.
"Ah!" Roman groaned, and fell to the floor.
He grabbed his shoulder.
"Roman!!!"
"The Lord of luck is on your side... But next time, even his intervention won't save you from me."
