Chapter 163 Damien's POV

Chapter 163 Damien's POV
The celebration continues late into the night, but eventually, Riley and I slip away.
It's tradition, the newly mated couple leaving before the party ends, disappearing into privacy to complete the bond fully.
Everyone knows where we're going. What we're about to do, and for once, I don't care about appearances or propriety or what anyone thinks.
I just want to be alone with my mate.
We make our way through Silverwood's halls, hand in hand. The academy is quiet this late, most everyone still at the celebration. Our footsteps echo in the silence.
Through the mate bond, I feel Riley's nervous anticipation. It mirrors my own.
We've been intimate before, but tonight is different. Tonight, we're fully bonded. The marks are sealed. The connection is permanent.
Tonight, we're truly one.
I open the door to my room, our room now, I suppose, and Riley steps inside. She turns to face me, and the sight of her steals my breath all over again.
Still in the wedding dress, her hair slightly mussed from dancing, the mating mark fresh on her neck. The circlet has been removed, but she's still wearing my grandmother's necklace.
She's beautiful. She's mine, and through the bond, I feel her thinking the same about me.
"Hi," she says softly, and I hear the nervousness underneath.
"Hi," I respond, closing the door behind us.
For a moment, we just stand there. Two people who've survived so much, who've fought so hard to get here, suddenly uncertain now that we've arrived.
Then Riley laughs, soft and genuine.
"This is ridiculous," she says. "We've faced Chasm entities and conspiracies and literal armies. Why are we nervous about this?"
"Because this matters," I say simply. "Everything else was survival. This is... us. Just us. No battles. No threats. Just you and me and the bond we've sealed."
"Help me with the dress?" she asks, turning to show me the intricate fastenings along the back.
My hands shake slightly as I work the clasps. The dress is beautiful, but watching it slide off her shoulders, revealing skin I've memorized but never tire of seeing…
The mate bond hums with want. With need. With the overwhelming certainty that she's mine and I'm hers.
The dress pools at her feet, and Riley steps out of it carefully, now wearing only the simple undergarments beneath.
She turns to face me, and I see the fresh mating mark clearly. The intertwined wolves, silver and gold, proof of our bond visible to anyone who looks.
"Your turn," she says, her voice husky.
I shed the formal robes quickly, carelessly, not caring where they land. All that matters is closing the distance between us.
When I pull her into my arms, skin against skin, the bond ignites.
Not the explosive power of the marking. This is different. Slower. Deeper. Like two souls recognizing they've finally found home.
"Riley," I breathe against her neck, right above the mark. "My mate. My Luna. Mine."
"Yours," she agrees, her hands sliding up my chest. "And you're mine."
I lift her easily, carrying her to the bed. She laughs against my shoulder, and the sound is pure joy.
"Very traditional," she teases.
"Some traditions are worth keeping," I murmur, laying her down gently.
What follows is slow. Reverent. Different from the desperate coupling we've shared before.
This time, we're not stealing moments between battles. Not frantic affirmations that we're alive.
This is claiming. Worshipping. Celebrating the bond that ties us together permanently.
I take my time, mapping every inch of her body with my hands and mouth. Memorizing the sounds she makes.
The way she arches into my touch. The way the mating mark pulses with power when I kiss it.
Through the bond, I feel everything she feels. Her pleasure is mine. Her need is mine, and when I finally sink into her, when we join completely…
The bond detonates.
Not painful. Not overwhelming. Just... complete.
Every barrier between us dissolves. I feel her thoughts, her emotions, and her very soul intertwined with mine, and she feels the same from me.
We move together, the bond amplifying every sensation until I can't tell where I end and she begins. Until we're just one entity, split into two bodies, finding our way back to wholeness.
When we finally crest together, crying out in shared ecstasy, the bond pulses with power so pure and strong that the room seems to glow with it.
I collapse beside her, pulling her against my chest, our hearts racing in sync.
Through the bond, I feel her awe. Her satisfaction. Her absolute certainty that this—us—is exactly right.
"That was..." she starts, but can't seem to find words.
"Yeah," I agree, understanding completely through the connection.
We lie there in comfortable silence, just breathing together. Feeling the bond settled and complete between us.
"I can feel your wolf," Riley says eventually. "Not just sense him. I can feel him like he's part of me."
"Same," I say. "Your Luna power. Your wolf. All of it. It's..." I struggle for words. "It's like having a second heartbeat. Constant. Reassuring. Home."
"Home," Riley repeats, and through the bond I feel how much the word means to her. "Yeah. That's exactly it."
She traces idle patterns on my chest, her fingers dancing over the fresh mating mark on my neck.
"Do you think it will always feel this intense?" she asks. "The bond?"
"My parents are still this connected after twenty-five years," I say. "So probably. We'll just get used to it."
"I don't think I'll ever get used to feeling your emotions constantly," Riley admits. "It's... a lot."
"You can build shields," I tell her. "Mental barriers that let you have privacy when you need it. My mother taught me. I can teach you."
"Later," Riley says, snuggling closer. "Right now, I kind of like feeling everything."
We drift in comfortable silence for a while, the bond humming contentedly between us.
Then Riley sits up suddenly, her eyes bright with an idea.
"Let's go for a run," she says.
"Now?" I ask. "It's past midnight."
"Exactly. The moon is full. The night is perfect, and I want to run with my mate. As wolves. Fully bonded."
Through the connection, I feel her excitement. Her need to move. To celebrate the bond in the most primal way wolves know.
"Okay," I say, already getting up. "A run."
We dress quickly in simple clothes that we can shift out of easily. Then we slip out of the academy, heading for the forest.
The night is indeed perfect, clear and cold, the full moon painting everything in silver. Our breath mists in the air as we run toward the tree line.
Once we're deep enough in the forest that no one will see, we strip and shift.
The transformation is smooth and practiced. I've shifted thousands of times.
But this time is different.
This time, I feel Riley's wolf alongside mine through the bond. Feel her power mixing with my corruption. Feel the rightness of running together.
My Alpha wolf is massive, black with silver markings and eyes that glow gold with corruption.
Riley's Luna wolf is smaller but no less powerful, silver-gray with eyes that shine with Luna-born light.
We stand there for a moment, wolves assessing each other. Then Riley yips playfully and takes off running.
I chase after her, and the bond sings with joy.
We run through the forest like we were born to do this together. Our pack bonds resonate with power as we move. Trees blur past. The ground disappears beneath our paws.
Riley's wolf is fast, faster than I expected. She dodges through trees with agility that makes my wolf want to catch her. To pin her. To prove dominance.
But she's not prey. She's Luna. My equal.
So instead of catching her, I run beside her. Matching her pace. Moving in sync like we've been doing this for years instead of minutes.
Through the bond, I feel her exhilaration. Her freedom. Her absolute joy at running under the full moon with her mate.
We reach a clearing and stop, both of us breathing hard. Our wolves circle each other, playful but assessing.
Then Riley's wolf pounces on mine.
We tumble together, play-fighting in a way wolves have done for millennia. It's not about dominance or hierarchy.
It's about connection. About celebrating our bond in the most primal way we know.
Eventually, we separate, both wolves panting with exertion.
Riley's wolf sits, tilting her head back to howl at the moon. The sound is pure and beautiful, a Luna's call.
My wolf joins her, my Alpha howl harmonizing with hers. Gold and silver. Corruption and purity. Two halves of one whole.
The sound carries through the forest, and in the distance, I hear the pack responding. Other wolves were howling their approval. Their celebration. Their acknowledgment of their new Luna.
When the howls fade, we shift back to human form. Both of us naked in the moonlight, breathing hard, grinning like idiots.
"That was incredible," Riley says. "I've never... run with you like that. Feeling your wolf through the bond. It was..."
"Perfect," I finish.
"Yeah," she agrees. "Perfect."
I pull her into my arms, not caring about the cold or our lack of clothes. Just needing to hold her. To feel her solid and real and mine.
"I love you," I tell her. "My mate. My Luna. My everything."
"I love you too," she responds. "My Alpha. My partner. My home."
We eventually shift again and run back to the academy, racing each other through the trees. Riley's wolf nips at my heels playfully. My wolf mock-growls in response.
It's play. It's joy. It's the simple happiness of two bonded wolves celebrating their connection.
When we finally make it back to our room, we collapse onto the bed in a tangle of limbs, exhausted and satisfied.
"Best mating ceremony ever," Riley declares, curling into my side.
"You don't have anything to compare it to," I point out.
"Don't care. Still the best."
I feel her drifting toward sleep. Feel her contentment and satisfaction and absolute certainty that this—us—is right.
I pull the blankets over us and hold her close, feeling her heartbeat against mine through the bond.
My mate. My Luna. My future.
Everything we survived. Everything we fought for. Everything we endured.
All of it led to this moment. To her in my arms. To the bond complete and permanent between us.
"Thank you," I whisper into her hair.
"For what?" she mumbles, half-asleep.
"For choosing me. For standing beside me. For being exactly who you are."
"Always," she whispers back. "Forever."
And as we drift off to sleep together, fully bonded and completely connected, I know with absolute certainty…
This is just the beginning. Of our life together. Of our leadership. Of the future we're building, and I can't wait to see where it leads.
