Chapter 23
Previously on Silver Moon.
"You look so breathtaking like this. You'd look even more gorgeous without your clothes on." Erik growls, his eyes staring right into Cobie's. "I bet you'd looked even more gorgeous with your lips wrapped around my cock." The Alpha groans, leaning down to nip at Cobie's neck. Cobie's head lolled to the side as he moaned. "I can't wait for the day we finally have sex. For the day I get to see and feel my dick sink into you." Erik's lips trailed up Cobie's neck to his lips. Cobie's heart was going crazy, there was fire in his veins and he wants more. He pushed his hand under Erik's shirt and slid his fingers up Erik's abs, loving the way Erik's body shook under his soft touch.
When they pull apart for air, there was thin line of spit connecting Cobie's lips to Erik's. Their chest were rising and falling rapidly. Cobie watched as Erik stared at him, his swollen lips, tussled hair and dark eyes and tried to pin point when exactly he had fallen in love with Erik.
Cobie lets out a loud groan when Erik grinds down. Tingles shooting up his body and all he could do, all he wanted to do was bring Erik closer. The Alpha lets out a loud growl, his lips trailing kisses down Cobie's neck. His teeth nipping, his tongue licking and Cobie wants. He was so hard in his pants it was ridiculous. He feels Erik nip at the bottom of his neck, he moans low when he feels something sharp trail along the sensitive of his neck.
What he wasn't expecting was for Erik to bite down hard, what he hadn't been expecting for it to tear through his skin. It's reflex when he slaps his hands around the table trying to find something to hit Erik with. He almost cries with relief when Michel jumps in through the window and practically pulled Erik away from Cobie.
Cobie placed his hand on his neck. He was panting hard and his eyes were pure black with fear. Michel was having a hard time holding Erik back. The Alpha's eyes were red and he had... fangs. Cobie's eyes widened and he tried to get off the table. Tried to put enough distance between them. But his body wouldn't move, it was screaming for Erik.
"You have to leave now!" Michel yelled.
Cobie couldn't form words. He had a lot to say but he didn't know how to let his lips form them. He looks away from Michel to Erik. His fangs were tainted a bright red from his blood. Erik had told him he didn't have a wolf, so what the hell was going on?
"Cobie!" Michel yelled, trying to get the vet's attention.
Erik lets out a loud growl and sunk his fangs into Michel's arm. The Beta let out a loud howl. Cobie winced at how loud it was and how painful it sounded. Everything started to spin around after that. There were loud knocks on the door and another wolf was coming in through the window. His vision was going blurry, his heart was going wild and blood was soaking his shirt. Fatigue was rushing it and all Cobie wanted to do was sleep. All he wants to do was close his eyes. So he does.
Cobie knows he's dreaming the next time he opens his eyes.
He's in a field, the air was warm and the sky was dark. The stars were out and were so bright. Cobie couldn't help but look up at them. He lays down on his back, his hands behind his head as he just stared at the sky. He loses track of time as he just watched the stars wink. He was so lost in them that he doesn't feel it when she passes. However, he does hear her when she sighs.
Cobie turns to his side and sits up quickly when he notices he wasn't alone. Sitting beside him was a woman. Her hair was the colour of the moonlight, her face was tucked into her knees and her hair fell over her body like a shield. Resting at her feet was a huge dark wolf, its bright red eyes staring right at Cobie.
Cobie looked around, trying to find something or someone to help because it looked like the woman was crying. Without thinking, Cobie crawled towards her. When he tries to place his on her shoulder, his hand goes through her body. Cobie jerked back and falls onto his ass, fear gripping his body tight. The woman doesn't move, the wolf just raised its head to stare at Cobie before lying back down.
If this had been a cartoon, Cobie was pretty sure his heart would burst out his chest and just run and keep running, it's legs taking him as far and as fast as it could. Though the fear was crippling, Cobie goes onto his hands and knees and crawled towards the crying woman. Since she couldn't feel him and couldn't see him, he just sits near her.
"Whatever it is you're going through. It's going to be fine. Just give it a little time. If everything isn't okay then it isn't the end." Cobie says. "Patience is a virtue for a reason." He says as he pulls his knees to his chest and wraps his arms around it. He doesn't speak again, he remains seated beside her and goes back to watching the stars. He smiles brightly when he sees the wolf get up. He holds his breath as the wolf made its way to him, it lays down and places its head right by Cobie's feet.
"Don't be worried. She's going to be okay." Cobie whispered. He reached out with shaky fingers and stroked the wolf's fur. The dark hair felt soft under his hand. His smile stretched wider when the wolf whined and moved even closer. He was so distracted by the wolf that he doesn't notice when the woman raised her head, he doesn't notice her pure white eyes, he doesn't notice the smile on her lips as she watched him pet her wolf. Cobie, however, noticed when she reached out and poked him on the shoulder. He turns to face her but before he could look at her, he was blinded by a bright light.
He pushed the heel of his hands into his eyes to shield them. When the light had died down, he pulls his hands away from his eyes and blinked repeatedly. It took him a while to get his bearings and when he does, he noticed he was in his room. He tries to sit up and was immediately assisted by someone. He turns to see who it was.
Randall.
"Your wound hasn't healed yet." The portly man said as he adjusted the duvet around Cobie.
Cobie licked his lips, his eyes felt heavy and his neck was throbbing. "Water." He croaks.
"Water? Like to drink?"
Cobie tried to shake his head but it hurt. "Bowl." He says and Randall thankfully gets it. he watched as the man walked as fast as he can towards the bathroom. He comes back out a couple minutes later with a bowl filled with water and a dry towel. Cobie raised his hand and Randall placed the bowl by it. Cobie placed his hand into the bowl, took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He hears a loud gasps beside him as the water began to snake up his skin. The water stopped at his collarbone, something was blocking his path. He hears Randall get up and gently removed the gauze wrapped around Cobie's neck. The water sank into the skin and Cobie lets out a loud sigh of relief. The skin stitched itself closed and the pain disappeared, leaving behind just a dull pang.
When he opens his eyes he felt much better. Randall was staring at him with wide eyes, the gauze still in his hands.
"Merfolk?" Randall asked, his voice low and laced with wonder.
"Merfolk." Cobie agreed. His hands goes to his neck and felt around, just in case. He lets his hand fall back when everything was done. "Where's Erik?"
"He's in his room."
"He bit me." Cobie says, taking the bottle water Randall hands him.
"And you just healed yourself. With water. What the fuck?"
"Another time, Randy. What's going on with Erik?"
Randall lets out a loud sigh and takes a seat at the edge of the bed. "With the death of Alpha Kaye and the raising of the veil, we might have forgotten that Erik was going into rut. Like most Alphas, Erik goes into rut once a month, his is every second week of the month. Normally, we'd smell it but this time, I guess it came late and was triggered by you."
Cobie's eyes were as wide as saucers as he digested Randall's words. "Oh." He says. "Erik's rut is at the same time as the full moon?"
"Sometimes it clashes."
"Fuck!" Cobie cursed, absentmindedly placing his hand on the place he had been bitten. "I... don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything."
"Doesn't he need to spend his rut with someone? He always spends it with someone right?"
"Yeah but since you both are mates, it's going to be really hard for you both to have sex with him giving you the bite. Without him marking you as his mate." Randall explains and Cobie tries to understand but he just wasn't seeing the issue here.
"Mating to werewolves is like marriage."
"So? We are already mates. He can do whatever he wants with me. If doesn't spend his rut with someone, won't it be painful?"
"The bite seals it. He bites you and you draw blood since you are ..." Randall waves his hand around and Cobie couldn't help but chuckle. "This is something you both should discuss, when you both are sane."
"You can't leave him alone."
"We can't do any other thing." Randall says with a sigh.
"What if I spend an hour with him?"
"Cobie..."
"What if I spend one in every five hours with him? You or Michel or Gabriel or even any of your pack warriors can be outside the door. You can burst in if I scream or something."
"It's not a good idea. His rut goes on for three days, something four."
"I can make it work."
"Why don't you wait here and I'll talk to Michel and Se Ju about this." Randall says. He lightly pats Cobie's leg before getting up from the bed, the bowl in his hand. He takes it back to the bathroom before walking out of the room. While he was out, Cobie got up from the bed and tried to stretch. He felt better and the dull pang was now gone. He was fully healed. He made his way to the window and looks out. The grounds were empty, word must have gotten out about Erik's heat because there was no one walking around the building and everywhere was silent.
He turns around when there was a knock on the door. He waves at Michel who was staring at him with shock, behind the Beta was Se Ju and Randall.
"See, I told you." Randall harshly whispered, albeit loudly.
"Cobie, are you alright?" Se Ju asked, taking a couple of steps forward so he was closer to Cobie.
"Yeah, everything is healed up." Cobie said with a shrug. "Can I see Erik?" Cobie asked.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Michel says, running a hand through his hair. "His fangs are not retracting and his eyes are still red. At the very moment, he's very violent and h-"
"But he was fine before! We were talking and laughing and then I got onto his lap and everything went..." Cobie waved his hand around. "...from there."
"That's completely normal. Sometimes an Alpha's rut or Omega's heat can get triggered. But this time, it's entirely different for you both. There's the high chance he marks you and you do the same, there's also the possibility of you getting hurt due to his fangs. He isn't used to them, this is the first time they've come out in twenty-seven years."
"So he's going to spend his rut alone?"
"He has been confined to his room for now wirh Aetos holding him down. If we give him a couple of things that belong to you and have your smell, it should calm him down."
"But we smell the same." Cobie said, a small frown on his face. The room went silent after that and none of the wolves refused to meet his gaze. Cobie pressed his hand to the spot where Erik had bitten who know how long ago and tried not to freak out. But judging by the look on their face, he's going to start freaking out soon.
"Do I still smell like Erik?" Cobie asked, his voice soft and shaky.
"No." Randall replied, his voice just as soft. "You smell different." He says with a sniff.
"Different how?"
"You smell sweet." Se Ju adds.
"Kind of like cupcakes and strawberry." Michel completes.
Cobie couldn't help but flush at that, his eyes turning pink. "How is that even possible?" he asks. "Why didn't you tell me?" he questioned Randall.
"I don't know why? None of us do. We think he must have hit something when he bit you or something?" Se Ju said and Cobie doesn't know what to contribute to that. It seemed like none of them knew he was a half breed.
"Okay, here's what we are going to do." Cobie said with a sigh. "Michel and Se Ju can take my duvet, pillow and other things my 'new' scent has touched and give them to Erik." Cobie says as he pushed walk around the bed to grab his pillow. "Randall, can you please get me a laptop and any book you have on werewolves?"
"You're not leaving your room?"
"Erik's room is a couple of doors down. Do you think it's a good idea for me to leave my room?" Cobie asked as he pulls the duvet around in search of his phone.
"I'll also send some people up with your food. You passed out for a while."
Cobie gives them a smile and quick nod. Michel and Se Ju grabbed everything they needed and walked out of the room. Randall offers to make his bed for him but Cobie gently refused. When Randall was gone, Cobie checked the closet for sheets and duvet, he made his bed and sat on his. He pressed the home button on his phone and relaxed when he sees no messages.
He falls back onto the bed and looks up. According to the time on his phone, it was a little past six. He rolls over to the side and placed his head on his arms. It doesn't even feel that long to him, he doesn't even remember if he had a nightmare or something pleasant.
He's snapped out of his thoughts when his door was pushed open. He sits up a little to check who it was and his whole face lights up when he sees little Blue. The little boy had on a grey long-sleeve and jean dungarees.
"Blue!"
"Cobie!" The boy squeals as he runs towards the bed.
Cobie had enough time to sit up and help Kai onto the bed. Kai goes on his knees and with his hands on Cobie's arm, pulls himself up so he could stand on the bed properly. He gives Cobie a tight hug and pat his cheeks when they pull apart.
"Hi, little one." Cobie said, pressing a kiss to Kai's cheek.
"Hi, Cobie." Kai says. "You smell diff."
Cobie pretends to be shocked. His eyes going wide and his mouth hanging open. "Really? What do I smell like?"
"Berries and cake!"
"Yum! Do you like it?"
"Yes!" Kai cheered. He cups Cobie's face in his hands. "Love it!"
"Are you going to stay up here with me today?"
"Till 8." Kai says. "Then I go to sleep."
"Yay!" Cobie cheers. He wraps his arms around Kai and flips him onto the bed, the two of them giggling like long lost friends. He laughs as he slid his hands up Kai's sides and began tickling him. Kai's laughter has to be one of Cobie's favourite things. It was loud and so full of happiness. The boy kicked and tried to wiggle away.
"No..." he giggles, his small hand trying to push Cobie back.
Cobie pouts and moves back after a few more seconds tickling. He gets up from the bed and grabs the remote while Kai starfished on the bed.
"So what did you do today?" Cobie asked as he settled on the bed.
"I went over to Jay's house and we coloured with our fingers." Kai says, raising his hands so Cobie could see them. "Then we ate fishsticks and had ice cream then I came home."
"That sounds amazing! You had a long day, didn't you?" Cobie asked, his free hand stroking Kai's hair. He flips through the channels until he finds something for Kai to watch and that was Mr. Beans: the animated series. The room was silent for a while until Kai spoke again.
"Cobie?"
"Yes, Blue?"
"You're not going to leave right? You're not going to leave me right?"
Cobie internally cooes at that. He pulls Kai towards him and looked him in the eye as he replied without hesitation. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm gonna stay here."
"Forever?"
"Forever." He promised.
"Pinky promise?" Kai says, raising up his pinky.
"Pink promise." Cobie agrees, linking his pinkie with Kai.
They go back to watching their tv, laughing at the right places and explaining a few parts to Kai.
"Are you going to marry Uncle Erik?"
Cobie sputters at that but Thankfully he didn't have to answer that because immediately the words had left Kai's mouth, the door was pushed open and Randall walked in with two other people behind him. One of them was holding a large tray and the other was holding his laptop. Randall motioned for them to place the tray and laptop gently on the bed, afterwards they give him a little bow before walking out of the room. This wasn't the first time he was being bowed to and he's pretty sure it won't be the last. He just isn't used to it. The respect.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Just a little overwhelmed."
"We bow as a sign of respect. As far as everyone in Astir knows, you are our Luna, be it officially or not." Randall says as he pushed the tray closer to Cobie.
"I'm just not used to it."
"You will, in time." Randall says. "I got you a couple of books and your laptop."
"What about Erik? Is he .... Does he eat?" Cobie asked as he pulls the plate stacked with vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy as well as chicken closer to him. He huffs out a laugh when Kai digs a finger into his mash.
"We don't poke people's food, darling." Randall scolds Kai, his eyes narrowed a bit.
"Sorry, poppy." Kai says with a pout.
"And what to do we say to Cobie?" Randall asked.
"Sorry, Cobie." Kai says with wide eyes and his pout.
"It's okay." Cobie says, reaching out to ruffle Kai's hair a little. The little boy grins up at him before turning back to the tv. He flops onto his stomach, his head in his hands and his feet swinging in the air.
"Erik is a lot calmer now. We have given him half a deer to calm his hunger." Randall thankfully answers Cobie's question.
"Deer?"
"Gabriel and a couple pack members went hunting while you were passed out." Randall replies and Cobie nods. He takes a bite of his food and groans at how delicious it tasted. While he ate, Randall and Kai kept on watching tv. Thankfully Mr. Bean was done and Tom and Jerry Tales was playing. It took him a few minutes to finish eating, he washed it down with a large gulp of mango juice. He placed the tray on the ground and pulled his laptop and the books towards him.
"What do you need the books for?"
"I figured, if I was going to lead an entire pack, I should know more about wolves." Cobie replied with a small shrug. Randall's eyes widened and he looked like Christmas had come early.
"You're going to mate with Erik?"
"I'm thinking about it."
"You know what that means right?" Randall asked as Cobie picked up the first book, Selene's Children.
"I do."
It's scary but he really knows what that means. He's going to spend the rest of his life with Erik, he's going to spend the rest of his life here in Astir, a place that has already begun to feel like home. A place he could be free and not hide his eyes, a place where they would all be safe. A place where the first man he has ever fallen in love with, also calls home.
