Chapter 193

Chapter 193
Dean

Dean struggled to his feet, he was put on edge by David’s warning. He caught sight of Stormy dodging as Mara came out of nowhere. It was like she suddenly appeared behind his mate with her sword in mid swing. The blade swished through the air and missed Stormy’s throat by mere inches.

Stormy summoned her sword and countered. She parried and their swords crossed again. Mara was swinging wildly with so much rage that her face looked inhuman. She screamed a list of obscenities at Stormy, as she attacked again and again. The frost queen was like an injured animal lashing out. The more that Mara attacked, the sloppier her moves.

Dean watched as Stormy’s body seemed to be moving on its own. Each move was a reminder of her practiced and controlled style. The training and conditioning showed with every graceful movement. Every deflection of Mara’s blade and every deadly strike showed Stormy’s determination. Her face was a mask of concentration, that Dean knew was just a cover. Beneath her calm demeanor, there was a storm brewing in her, unlike any one had ever seen.

He knew from the impassive way Stormy moved, that Mara would not be walking away from this fight. Stormy wouldn’t imprison her in rock this time. Mara had caused too much pain and the price was almost more that Stormy could bare. The reality of her grief lay heaped in a pile that was now nothing but Daniel’s body. Mara’s sin had been too great. This time his mate was out for blood.

Their swords clashed again but it was clear to see that Stormy had the upper hand as a fresh line of blood appeared through Mara’s sleeve. The Frost queen screamed and blasted Stormy with a wave of dark energy. Stormy easily deflected it with her sword which began to glow with what looked like Damian’s magic.

Mara attacked again with an overhead chopping motion. Stormy blocked it with her blade and attacked Mara in retaliation. Their swords clanged and they fought. A few strokes later, Mara hissed as an angry stripe of blood began to run down her thigh.

In frustration, Mara began to fire magic randomly, shooting bolts of black smoke at the Kindred. Stormy used her shield to deflect the bolts. The magic being reflected struck the few remaining shadow warriors, who had tried to come to the Frost queen’s aid. She was inadvertently killing her own people with her uncontrolled anger.

While Stormy battled her sister, Drew continued to shower David with his healing ray. Dean and Damian had both been kneeling over David. When they realized that David was no longer in danger and was quickly on his way to recovery, they both stood.

Dean walked over and checked Daniel for a pulse. He knew that David was watching him eagerly. Dean frowned and shook his head. He could feel David’s disappointment as he walked back to his friend. “I’m sorry,” he whispered knowing that David was broken at the death if his brother.

Dean watched as Damian seemed to be wavering in what to do. The vampire finally draw his sword as an offer to join the fight. Dean understood Damian’s desire to protect their mate, but he also knew there were something’s that Stormy had to do on her own. As he expected, Stormy waved Damian away. Dean knew that Damian also understood. This fight was personal. Mara was her twin and it was something they had to end together.

While the sister’s battled on, a few remaining rogues and shadow warriors began to rush to the Kindred. Damian and Dean moved to defend Drew as he finished healing David. The Golden dragon seemed to be getting stronger by the minute. Dean could see David unsuccessfully trying to get to his feet while Drew insisted that he rest and accept more healing.

The warriors charged David’s dragon form while Dean and Damian defended. They soon found themselves neck deep in the few enemies that were left. The attackers were already bloody and sporting injuries. Damian used his sword and Dean his lycan claws to finish off those foolish enough to attack.

As he struck down the last warrior, Dean looked down into the valley below them. It was littered with bodies. Most of them belong to the enemy. Dean could tell that The Golden Army had lost a few members, but the bulk of the dead were shadow warriors. Several of the rogues were still on their feet. The humans and wolves were rounding them up to be helding as prisoners. The fae and the vampires were scattered across the battlefield, slaughtering the rest of the shadow warriors. The Kindred had already determined that they would not spare the shadow warriors because they did not appear to hold higher brain functions and were technically already dead. Angie had warned them that the plague had made the former elves irredeemable.

Another angry scream brought Dean’s attention back to Stormy and Mara. Stormy had Mara’s sword trapped above her head while Stormy’s was sunk into Mara’s flank. Blood was pouring from the hole and Dean knew it was a serious wound.
Stormy withdrew the point of the sword and Mara crumpled. She glared at her twin and smirked. Dean wanted to scream in frustration as Mara chose that moment to teleport away. Her disappearance meant the battle was not over.

I can track her. She isn’t getting away. Stormy signed. Let me check on David and we will finish this once and for all.

Stormy walked over to David who had managed to get back to his feet. He shifted into his human form and Stormy waved her hand to dress him. He walked over and wrapped his arms around her.

“Sweetness,” he simply said as he embraced her.
After David released Stormy, he walked over and pulled Dean into an awkward side hug. “Thank you, brother.” David said.

Dean chuckled. “Just don’t go trying to kiss on me or anything.” David dropped his arm and looked at Dean horrified. Damian, Drew and Stormy all busted out laughing.

“How are you, really?” Drew asked David.
He shrugged. “I’m good as new. Thank you, my other Brother.” David said as he extended a handshake to the fae.

Stormy shook her head and a faint smile appeared. Are we ready?” she signed. She held out her hand to her mates. David took one side of her, while Drew held her other hand. Damian and Drew also grabbed hands with them. Dean felt the familiar feeling of the ground being dragged away.
