Chapter 66
"I'll have my assistant look into this," James said, looking at me.
I knew very well that the student must have been instigated by Leonard; otherwise, he wouldn't have come to cause trouble for me out of nowhere.
After losing the competition yesterday, Leonard stormed out with an ugly expression on his face. He must have been unable to swallow his pride, so he deliberately badmouthed me in front of the students and secretly instructed them to retaliate against me.
As we walked into the Celestial University campus, quite a few students cast strange looks our way.
I couldn't tell if they were looking at James or at me.
James took off his jacket and draped it over me. I instinctively tried to pull it off, but he held it in place and said quietly, "Do you want to upset Grandma?"
Indigo's eyes were full of amusement: "That's more like it. If you don't care for your own wife, who else will?"
I wrapped myself in James's jacket, feeling the warmth he'd left on it. It was very warm.
Unfortunately, no matter how warm it was, it wasn't my jacket after all. James was just like this jacket.
James found a restroom. He called Dane to bring over some clothes and also told Dane to investigate Leonard.
After hearing this, Indigo was very angry: "This can't just end like this. Today it's water, tomorrow it might be sulfuric acid."
I sighed too.
I had originally come to Celestial University to secretly find someone.
But searching among tens of thousands of people was too troublesome, so I thought I'd come in as an auditing student. Who knew something like this would happen?
If Leonard wanted to retaliate against me, I wouldn't just let him bully me.
"Grandma, I have a plan for this."
Indigo wasn't in good health, and I didn't want her to worry about it.
"No way, I must help you get revenge today!"
I quickly held Indigo back: "Grandma, really, there's no need to make such a big fuss."
Indigo looked at James: "James, what do you think?"
James nodded: "You're right."
Indigo smiled: "You heard that, Sophia."
I shook my head, not wanting to stir up more trouble.
But Indigo took my hand and led me to the principal's office.
When Principal Austin Roberts saw us, he stood up and bowed obsequiously: "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Indigo Smith, what brings you to the school today?"
Indigo led me to sit on the sofa and look at Austin with a smile: "Austin, are you getting old and losing your energy? The school is getting worse under your management."
Austin wiped the sweat from his forehead, becoming even more respectful: "Mrs. Indigo Smith, please enlighten me?"
Indigo told him everything that had just happened. Austin exclaimed excitedly: "How could this happen? I'll have someone investigate right away."
Dane showed Austin what he'd found: "It's this person."
After looking at it, Austin stammered: "I, I'll have someone bring this student here right away."
Austin was probably afraid of angering James and Indigo, so he immediately had someone find the student.
As soon as the student came in and saw us, he turned to run.
Dane blocked him.
"Why did you do this?" Austin questioned him directly.
The student's eyes darted around: "I just didn't like the look of her."
I was curious: "Do you know me?"
"No."
"Then why didn't you like the look of me?"
"There's no reason. Since you've found me, do whatever you want with me." The student looked like he was ready to face anything.
I narrowed my eyes slightly: "With just one word from me, you'll be kicked out of this school. Are you sure you want to go against me?"
"Not just kicked out - if you want to work in the computer industry in the future, it'll be almost impossible."
"You should know about Shadow Circuit Studio, right?"
The student's eyes widened: "What right do you have?"
"It seems the person behind you didn't tell you about my identity?"
"I'm from Shadow Circuit Studio. You should know our studio's position in the industry."
The student panicked and begged, "I know I was wrong, please forgive me."
I asked: "Who put you up to this?"
"It was, it was Leonard. He said if I just taught you a small lesson, he'd give me an internship opportunity and a graduate school spot."
Austin shouted angrily: "Doesn't Leonard know what he should and shouldn't do? He's a man in his forties or fifties!"
"Get Leonard here!"
Leonard was called over by Austin's assistant. Leonard still had a smile on his face: "Mr. Roberts, why did you call me here?"
The moment he saw me, his face fell.
He reluctantly forced out a fake smile: "Mr. Smith, what can I do for you?"
Everyone wasn't stupid - anyone could see what was going on.
Indigo couldn't hold back and spoke first, pointing at Leonard and demanding, "How can someone like you be a teacher? Look at what your good student did."
Leonard was stunned for a moment, then pretended not to know: "Mrs. Indigo Smith, I don't know what you're talking about."
I looked at his shifty eyes and got straight to the point: "We're all smart people here. There's no need to play dumb. Let's just be direct."
Leonard's face fell, and he pushed all the blame onto the student: "You must be blind, daring to provoke anyone, and now making me clean up your mess!"
"Hurry up and kowtow and apologize to Mr. Smith and the others!"
I didn't give Leonard a chance to make excuses: "Leonard, he said you were the one who instigated this."
Leonard glanced at James and softened his tone: "Mr. Smith, there must be some misunderstanding. How about you give me some time to investigate this clearly?"
"I dare stake my reputation that the students I've taught would never do bad things."
"Perhaps your wife did something wrong..."
I was amused by Leonard's words. Leonard really had a sharp tongue, even more talkative than a woman.
He was clearly the one who spoke rudely first and held a grudge against me. He deliberately had students spread bad things about me, but now it was all my fault.
"Leonard, who started trouble yesterday?" I stepped forward, looking at him with cold eyes. "You were the one who first belittled me based on gender, saying that as a woman, I couldn't learn computers. That's why I competed with you. You saw the result yourself - you just weren't good enough."
"You can't even beat me, yet you became a professor teaching students. I wonder what methods you used to become a professor?"
"Stop talking nonsense!" Leonard slammed the table in anger. "You clearly won the competition through improper means. Otherwise, with your limited skills, how could you possibly write a better program than I?"
Seeing Leonard being so unreasonable, James's eyes grew even colder. He didn't say anything more to Leonard, but looked at Austin with natural authority.
