Chapter 135
Amelia was holding a thermos, wearing a fake smile on her face: "Sophia, I'm sorry. Isabella didn't know any better and caused you trouble. I specially made you some nutritious soup to help you recover."
Isabella followed behind her, head down, not daring to look at me.
"No need, I don't want it." I refused directly.
Whatever Amelia brought couldn't be anything good. Who knows what she put in it - I wouldn't dare eat it.
"Sophia, just take it." Amelia walked over, trying to put the thermos on the bedside table. "You're pregnant now and need nutrition. I especially consulted a nutritionist to make this. It's good for both pregnant women and babies."
"I said no need." I moved aside to avoid her. "Just take it back. If you think it's a waste, you can have it yourself."
Isabella suddenly looked up: "Sophia, are you refusing to drink it because you're still mad at me? I'm just a kid, and I'm not even angry at you anymore. Are you really going to hold a grudge against a child?"
"Isabella, don't say that." Amelia patted her hand, then looked at me. "Sophia, I know you're angry."
"I already talked to Isabella, and she knows she was wrong. That's why she begged me to make you this soup and dragged me here to apologize to you."
"If you don't drink at least a little, the child will think you haven't truly forgiven her, and she'll feel bad."
As she spoke, she opened the thermos, and a rich aroma wafted out.
But something felt off to me. Amelia had always been petty, and Isabella was cut from the same cloth. Why would they suddenly be so kind as to make me nutritious soup?
There had to be something wrong with it.
"I said I'm not drinking it." My attitude was firm.
"Sophia, just have a little. My mom spent so long making it." There was a strange hint of anticipation in Isabella's eyes.
Her reaction made me even more suspicious.
I stared at the thermos, certain that something had been added to it.
"No." I refused again.
Isabella suddenly stepped forward, reaching out to push the thermos toward me, trying to make me drink: "Why are you so ungrateful! My mom made this for you out of kindness. Why won't you drink it?"
She used too much force and couldn't hold the thermos steady. All the soup spilled out, and the scalding liquid splashed onto Isabella's hand.
"It's so hot!" Isabella screamed, tears instantly streaming down her face, her little hand turning red and swollen.
Seeing this, Amelia's face changed dramatically. She quickly hugged Isabella: "Isabella! Are you okay? Does it hurt?"
She turned to look at me, her eyes full of accusation: "Sophia! Why did you push Isabella? Look at her hand - it's so badly burned! You've gone too far!"
"I didn't push her. She lost her grip herself." My voice was cold. "She was the one forcing me to drink it, and accidentally knocked it over. It has nothing to do with me."
"You're still making excuses!" Amelia held Isabella, crying out, "If you had just drunk it, Isabella wouldn't have been holding it! You did this on purpose! You wanted to hurt my daughter!"
Just then, James returned. Seeing the scene before him, he frowned: "What's going on? Why is Isabella crying? What happened to her hand?"
"James! Look! Sophia pushed Isabella and spilled the scalding soup on her hand!" Amelia cried. "She's so vicious, she won't even spare a child!"
"I didn't push her." I looked at James. "Isabella was forcing me to drink the soup her mom made. She lost her grip and spilled it herself. It has nothing to do with me."
"I also suspect they put something in it."
"You're lying!" Amelia shouted excitedly. "I made this soup especially for you. How could there be anything wrong with it?"
"If you didn't want to drink it, fine, but why are you slandering me?"
"Whether there's a problem or not, we'll know after testing it." I looked at James. "James, take the remaining soup for testing right now and see if anything was added that shouldn't be there."
"Sophia! You've gone too far!" Amelia quickly tried to stop him. "It's just a bowl of soup. Do you have to be so paranoid? You even want to test it - are you trying to frame me?"
"Whether I'm slandering you or not, we'll know from the test results." I insisted.
James looked at me, then at Amelia, his brow furrowed. He picked up the thermos from the floor.
There was still some soup left inside.
"James! You can't believe her!" Amelia snatched the thermos from his hands, clutching it tightly. "This was made with good intentions. How can she insult me like this?"
"Whether it's an insult or not will be clear after testing." James's tone was firm. "Give it to me."
James immediately had someone contact the hospital's lab and sent over the remaining soup from the thermos.
While waiting for the results, Amelia kept crying beside us, saying how I was wrongly accusing her.
About an hour later, the test results came back.
James held the lab report, his face dark.
"Explain this." James threw the report in front of Amelia. "Why is there a laxative in here?"
Seeing the report, Amelia's face went pale, her eyes panicked: "I... I don't know! How could there be a laxative? Did they test it wrong?"
"The test isn't wrong." James's voice was ice cold. "You knew Sophia was pregnant, yet you still put laxatives in the soup! What were you trying to do?"
"I didn't!" Amelia cried in defense. "Maybe Sophia added the laxative herself to frame me."
"I do not need to frame you," I said coldly. "And I forgot to tell you - I installed cameras in this hospital room."
"If you admit it now, I might consider letting you off. Otherwise, I'll release the video and let everyone see your disgusting face."
Amelia's expression became even worse.
"James, I really don't know what happened." Amelia switched to a pitiful look, tugging at James's sleeve. "Maybe Isabella did it without knowing better? She's young and didn't know what it was..."
"Amelia, stop making excuses!" James shook off her hand, his tone severe. "Isabella is only five years old. How would she know where the laxative was or how to add it to the soup? You obviously taught her to do it!"
"I didn't..." Amelia tried to defend herself.
"Enough!" James cut her off. "Amelia, I'm warning you - behave yourself! Don't pull these tricks anymore, or I'll send you and Isabella abroad and never let you come back!"
