Chapter 90 Do you think… she still has feelings for Caspian?
The sight of the car, and the man waiting beside it, sent a heavy, sick feeling straight through Madison. It was like a door slamming shut inside her chest.

Phanuel’s face brightened when he saw her, but the light died the second he noticed Sebastian standing there.

“Madison. I have been waiting here for two hours,” he said, and the way he said it was like an attack.

“Is that meant to make me feel good or bad?” she shot back, her voice flat. Sebastian watched her, a question forming. Who was this woman? The change in her was so complete it was jarring.

Phanuel’s mouth twisted. “I thought you might care. I left everything to come.”

A rough, dismissive sound escaped her. He was treating her like some emotional repair shop, a place he could drop off his mess.

“Right now, Phanuel, you are making a fool of yourself. Or maybe you just can not see. I am not Rachel. Get in your car. Do not come back.”

She moved to go around him, but his voice turned soft, begging. “Madison. We have to talk.”

“There is nothing to say.”

She took Sebastian’s arm, leading him into the elevator. Phanuel pushed in after them. His eyes fixed on Sebastian. “Who is he? You found someone else that fast?” He looked genuinely wounded.

It had not even been a week. And here he was, accusing her.

Then he remembered seeing her with Michelle’s bodyguard that night, and a weird calm settled over him.

“Why does it matter to you what I do? We are done. Have some dignity, or I will call building security. Keep this up, and it will be a legal matter.”

Her face was closed off, a wall. He kept talking, pleading, convinced that if he just waited, her anger would burn out.

“Madison, please. I am sorry. Five minutes. Just give me five,” he begged as the elevator doors opened. They all stepped into the hall, but Madison stopped. She handed a key to Sebastian.

“Go inside. Get comfortable,” she told him.

Sebastian felt out of place, caught in this old drama. “You will be all right here?” he asked, his tone low. She had shown him kindness. The least he could do was make sure she was safe.

“Yes. It is just my ex,” she said, and the simple admission made him look at her differently.

“I will wait for you.”

The moment the apartment door closed behind them, Phanuel was on her. “Is he your man now?”

“You have five minutes,” Madison said, her voice leaving no room. Because of Lake, the breakup felt like something that happened to another person in another life. She felt nothing.

Phanuel drew a ragged breath, putting on a wounded face. “Madison, you will not believe it. Rachel… she was seeing someone else.”

“That is your own fault coming back to you. You left me for her. Why are you crying about it now?” She did not care. This was a waste of her time.

“I know, but… you want to know who she left me for?”

Against her will, a spark of curiosity lit. “Who?”

“Another woman,” he said, and the words hung in the air. Madison almost laughed. It was a fucking perfect circle. But she kept her face blank.

“She likes women. So what?”

He looked truly pained by it. He had not even gotten what he wanted from Rachel before it all fell apart.

“No, she likes both. Listen, Madison, I am sorry. Let us just start over. We can forget any of this happened.”

She could not even find the energy to be mad. It was all so ridiculous.

“I thought you had real news. If I see you here again, I will call the police. I mean it.”

His face changed then, turning hard. That bodyguard had not stayed, but this man was in her home. “Is it because of him?”

A slow, cold smile touched her lips. “Phanuel, I do not love you. Not even a little. Go find someone else to bother. Do not come back.”

He could not move, just stood there as she turned and walked into her bedroom. Was it really over?

When Madison entered her room, she stopped. Sebastian looked completely at ease in her small space. He had already changed into the pajamas they bought, since his things were still at Lake’s place. He was eating the food they brought back, seeming totally unaffected by losing Sienna.

“You did not waste any time,” she said, a real smile coming to her face.

“You told me to,” he answered. Then he looked up, his expression shifting. “Madison, how long have you known Michelle?”

She folded her arms. “If you want to ask me something about her, ask it.”

He tried to smile, but it did not reach his eyes. “Do you think… she still has feelings for Caspian? From what was said, it seemed like it went pretty deep.”
