[9] Ezra: 'The Beginning.'-2

Her pink lips had pulled back to reveal a row of perfect teeth, and two adorable dimples had formed on her cheeks-cheeks that were pink with joy. My breath had hitched in my chest as I'd watched the most glorious girl on earth laugh at something someone had said, and instantly, I'd known what all the hype was about crushing on someone. It was a feeling like no other, and the being in the presence of the one you like is like a drug. "Yo, Ezra!" Seneca had yelled all of a sudden, thankfully pulling me out of the trance I'd been stuck on and preventing Nyah from thinking that I'm some sort of creep who couldn't stop staring at her. I'd spun around quickly to walk over to where Seneca'd been standing at the edge of the trees, but somehow, since the moon Goddess hated me for all my sins, I'd tripped over my own feet and had fallen. Just freaking great. Everyone had burst out laughing, comments of how blind I must be were thrown around, and let me tell you this, middle-schoolers are the meanest set of SOBs you'll ever have the misfortune of meeting in your life. My face had burst in flames and I'd quickly gotten up and dusted myself off to scuttle away, but I'd have never had to endure that embarrassment, had I not fallen so deep in infatuation the moment I'd laid eyes on her. This feeling of being attracted to someone is really strange. It makes you do the stupidest of things and gets you high and tongue-tied and makes you stumble over your own feet like a fumbling idiot. And for the rest of that miserable trip, I'd had to stay clear of her and make sure I'm not caught staring at her, because popping wood in front of your friends? I dare you to find something more embarrassing. "What you thinking so hard 'bout? Don't worry that pretty little head of yours too much, the few brain cells in there might spontaneously combust." Seneca mumbles from beside me as she munches on her Mars bar, dragging me out of my thoughts. "Says the one who couldn't tell the difference between a 'θ' and an '8'." I roll my eyes at her lame insult, not even commenting on the fact that she chewing while talking, again, no matter how many times her father had reprimanded her when she does it. He's nowhere in sight so I guess she's in the clear now. I'll have to warn her if he comes around. "Willy Wonka's handwriting on the board sucks! It's not my fault he writes 8s instead of θs and confuses the shit out of people!" Seneca huffs as she fists her fingers in irritation, and I control an amused chuckle. It's a testy subject for her since Mr. Watson had embarrassed her in front of the whole class. Yes, Willy Wonka is her creative nickname name for him. "Whatever," I mutter, snickering despite wanting not to, "Doesn't change the fact that everyone in our class thinks you're stupid." They really didn't, because her straight A's speak for themselves, but it's fun to mess with her. "They do not." Seneca punches my arm, glaring at me, completely pissed off. Oh yeah, exactly what I need right now to distract myself. "They do, too." I challenge, standing up and backing away slowly. "Do not." She repeats, standing up cautiously as well. "Do too!" I yell, laughing as I spin around and break off in a sprint. "Do not!" Seneca yells right back, chasing me into the trees. About twenty minutes of running around later, we'd called a truce and come back, not because we are tired, but because it's time and everyone would've shown up and we are expected to be there. When we enter the grass clearing near the cars, just like we'd thought, almost all the families have arrived. Foldable chairs were pulled up in loose circles as people milled around, chatting and saying their hellos. A quick scan has my heart rate tripling. Because she's here. 'We always knew she'd be here,' My Wolf comments drily. "Hi, guys!" Seneca exclaims as she walks forward to the already formed circle of people who're mostly close friends. I follow behind her reluctantly, meeting everyone's eyes as I give them all welcoming smiles, very carefully avoiding the girl who makes my heart flutter. I quickly glance at her anyway, because the temptation is irresistible-I know, I know, I'm a hypocrite, and find her looking at me already with a stern look of disdain in her eyes. Uh oh, looks like I've started something I'm really not sure I wanna finish. "Uh, hi, everyone." I say half-heartedly as I nod at everyone in the group in a cursory manner once again, quickly pulling my gaze back to the girl I can't seem to look away from. Nyah glares at me a bit more now. Shit. What have I done? Do I really want to make an enemy out of the girl I like? "Let's get chairs." Seneca gives my sleeve a tug as she walks around the circle over to the line of chairs folded on top of each other. I exhale nervously as I follow her, my eyes glued to the face of the glowering girl in front of me as I contemplate ways to start up a conversation and clear the air between us. And that's the gravest mistake I've ever done, because the next moment, I'm falling forward and my face is having an intimate affair with the grass and mud covered ground. It's like déjà-vu all over again, because every single person in the vicinity is cracking up over the Beta boy who tripped over nothing. But only I know, that this time it wasn't actually nothing. It was a foot that belonged to a certain mocha-eyed little devil. A devil named Nyah freaking Pineda, who dared to trip me. Oh, she wants to do it that way? Fine, two can play this game. And thus began our hate-hate relationship. ~ 'She's here!' Micajah yells over the tele-link abruptly, jerking me out of my trip down the memory-lane. My eyes scan the room as I search for the Curvy, Dark and Sexy goddess, and just like I'd envisioned, she's dressed to kill in a little red number that's currently doing a number on me. "Fuck," I curse and take a deep breath, preparing myself as I make my way through the crowd of writhing bodies to the one person for whom this entire event was for. 'Now, don't mess shit up.' My Wolf instructs firmly, and I can't find it in me to be annoyed with his continuous quips. 'I really hope I don't.' I think, running my hand through my hair and fixing my shirt. I think I can pull this off. Goddess, help me. ~ * ~ Enjoyed this chapter? Please do
