Chapter 94: the rules

Chapter 95:
He didn't give me time to process the devastating climax, or the shame, or the utter sense of betrayal from my own body. He simply pulled me tightly into his side under the heavy blankets, turning me so my back was flush against his chest.

I was trembling, the aftershocks of the overwhelming experience mixed with raw terror. My skin felt hypersensitive, every point of contact with his body an agonizing reminder of the absolute loss of my control.

His breathing gradually deepened, slowing from the ragged intensity of the climax to a quiet, even rhythm. He had claimed his victory, and now he was resting, completely unconcerned with the devastation he had wrought on me.

I can’t believe I moaned. I can’t believe I let him. That wasn't me. That was just my body reacting to force. I tried to distance the terrifying physical pleasure from the violation, but the two were now inextricably linked by his dominance. He had deliberately twisted the natural instinct of my body into a weapon against my mind.

He reached up and ran a hand through my damp hair, his fingers gently untangling the knots. It was a small, tender action—a caretaker for his prized possession.

"Sleep, Isla," he commanded softly, his voice barely audible. "You exhausted yourself with running. There will be no more of that."

He then slid his hand from my hair down to my neck, his thumb resting gently on the cool, solid curve of the diamond tracker. It was a non-verbal confirmation that even in this supposed moment of rest, the leash was still firmly attached.

I closed my eyes, but sleep was impossible. I was trapped in a state of hyper-awareness, acutely conscious of every muscle and every breath of the man holding me. The large, luxurious bed had become the smallest, most suffocating cage yet. I was surrounded by the proof of my captivity, nestled against the very body that defined my prison.

I had traded the public violence of the street for the private, intimate brutality of his complete control.

The next day
I woke to silence.

For a long moment, I lay perfectly still, unsure where I was. The thick blackout curtains blocked the morning sun, shrouding the immense room in a rich, velvety twilight.

The memory hit me with the force of a physical blow—the street fight, the blood, the crushing water of the bath, and the suffocating intimacy of the night. My eyes snapped open, darting around the space.

Lorenzo was gone.

The space beside me was empty, the sheets cool where he had been. The immediate relief of his absence was quickly replaced by a raw, profound ache of defeat that settled deep in my bones.

I sat up, pulling the heavy blanket defensively around my naked body. My neck felt stiff, and I immediately reached for the tracker. The cold diamonds were still there, solid and unyielding.

As my eyes adjusted to the gloom, I realized the room was fundamentally changed. The bare expanse of the bedroom from the previous morning was gone.

The room was already full with the things Lorenzo had bought for me.

A dazzling, overwhelming array of new furniture, racks of clothing, and towering boxes dominated the space. Near the walk-in closet, several minimalist racks held dozens of new garments: structured wool coats, heavy winter boots, soft cashmeres, and dark, functional trousers. They were all in muted, expensive colors—black, charcoal, navy, and ivory—a uniform for my new life.

A new vanity table was piled high with sealed bottles of luxurious skincare and makeup. Near the window, a large, beautiful antique desk had been placed, topped with a pristine, state-of-the-art laptop and a thick journal bound in Italian leather.

It was complete. My prison had been furnished. My old life had been definitively replaced by this purchased, inescapable reality.

I slid out of the bed, the thick blanket wrapped around me like a shroud. I was still naked beneath it. My body ached, but the small, healing scrape on my knee—a souvenir from my run in the alley—was a painful reminder of my failure.

As I stood there, taking in the evidence of his cold, efficient spending, I saw a folded card resting on the new desk.

I walked over and picked it up. The card was heavy, cream-colored, and simply bore his crest. His handwriting was elegant and precise:

The wardrobe is complete. Your list of duties for the day is on the laptop. You will be dressed and prepared to leave this room by 10:00. Compliance, as we discussed, is the only acceptable response.

—L.

It was a schedule, a command, and a cold reminder of the previous night’s exchange. The lesson was over. The training had begun.

The clock on the desk read 9:15. I had forty-five minutes to shed the last remnants of my old identity and put on the uniform of Lorenzo's property.

The command on the cream-colored card was absolute. I had forty-five minutes. Compliance, as he had chillingly demonstrated, was my only acceptable response.

My immediate instinct was not obedience, but reconnaissance. I dropped the card onto the desk and turned to the new laptop. If I'm supposed to use this for "duties," maybe it has an internet connection.

I pulled the blanket tighter and tentatively opened the sleek, silver laptop. The screen flashed to life. It didn't ask for a password. It was already logged in, displaying a clean desktop and two icons: one labeled 'Daily Agenda' and the other 'Correspondence'.

I immediately ignored the agenda and clicked on 'Correspondence', hoping for an email client or a web browser. The screen that popped up was stark white, featuring a single, large text box and a message at the top: Outgoing messages are strictly monitored and filtered. All external communications must be approved.

My heart sank. He hadn't just given me a computer; he'd given me a monitored typewriter. No access to the outside world, no chance to signal anyone.

Defeated, I closed that window and clicked on the 'Daily Agenda'. A simple list appeared:

1\. 09:15 – 10:00: Personal Preparation (Dressing, Hygiene).

2\. 10:00 – 10:30: Breakfast (Downstairs Dining Room).

3\. 10:30 – 11:30: Orientation (Review of Estate Systems and Staff).

4\. 11:30 – 12:30: Language Lesson (Mandarin Tutor).

The schedule was horrifyingly detailed and controlled.

I turned away from the laptop, acknowledging the failure. I had to dress.

I walked over to the closet area. The clothes were beautiful, luxurious, and cold. They were the uniform of a captive princess. I chose a thick, dark grey cashmere sweater, well-cut black trousers, and soft leather boots—practical, concealing, and warm. I dressed slowly, feeling the weight of the expensive fabric settle over my skin, replacing the trauma-soaked silk of the previous day.

By 9:55, I was dressed, my face scrubbed clean, the scraped knee hidden by the thick trousers. I paused at the mirror. The woman looking back was different—hollow-eyed, yes, but hardened. She wore the clothes of power, even if she had none.

Just as the clock hit 10:00, the lock on the mahogany door clicked. Lorenzo walked in.

He was dressed in a dark, flawless suit, his hair slightly damp, smelling faintly of citrus and fresh linen. He looked like the CEO of a multinational corporation, utterly detached from the brutality of the previous night.

His eyes swept over me, assessing the new clothes and my compliant posture. A small, cold satisfaction flickered in his eyes.

"You are punctual," he noted, walking toward me.

As he approached, a question—one that had been churning since the first day—spilled out, driven by the need to understand the source of the chaos that had consumed me.

"Is Nico here?" I asked, my voice steady, meeting his gaze. "Or Ken? Your brothers. The ones involved in... everything."

He stopped directly in front of me, his shadow falling over my face.

“You don’t need to bother yourself with them,” he said, his voice flat and final, shutting down the inquiry instantly. He didn't deny their existence or their presence in the mansion; he simply denied my right to knowledge.

I hadn't expected a good answer. The refusal wasn't a surprise, but the lack of information felt like a direct attack on my need to piece together the narrative of my own destruction.

He reached out and gently adjusted the collar of my new cashmere sweater, his touch possessive.

"Your duties begin now," he instructed, his eyes drifting down momentarily to the diamonds on my neck. "We will not discuss company politics. You will learn the rules of this house and your place in it."

He turned on his heel and walked toward the door. "Breakfast."

I had no choice but to follow.
