Chapter 122 - The Night can be scary

Kendrick POV.

I didn't get to have much contact with Melvin, sure I had trained with him, but we weren't friends or close... When the first reports came out that Hope and Melvin were dating, Night immediately wanted to go back to the pack, but what were we going to do? Stop Hope from dating?

That wasn't an option, so I focused on training, trying to forget that the person I loved was with someone else... Then came the news of Hope's first temper tantrum... I didn't see it, but from the reports, I knew she had been distraught and again Night wanted to go back to see her, but again, what could I do?

What I did was just promise myself that I would stay strong enough so that Hope would never have to fight again in a way that could lose her control. That's how I began to unlock the powers Night had and after a year I was kneeling before the King reciting the Oath of Loyalty and Protection.

I didn't do this at all without my father's permission, back then how could we have predicted that Hope would become our Luna and not only that, but would have bowed to someone other than the King under the Castle, even if that person was his son... And that was precisely what kept the Oath in place, even though I felt the twinge of it stretching and wanting to break.

Kaiden and Dylan understand me and look at me. I'm worried, but that worry disappears when I feel that Lestat and Marcus had accepted that Erick was the new King, it's not that I don't care about the creature in front of me, but breaking the Oath of Loyalty and Protection would be cursing the whole pack and that I'm sure Hope doesn't want.

Calmer now, Night and I turn our attention to that creature, I don't have many feelings against him, I just feel sorry... Because he could have been great, he could have been a hero, lived like one and in his death, he would have been the precursor to a less broken and much more balanced Hope.

I can feel my body starting to turn as Night took over, he wasn't really angry against Melvin either, but his existence should be extinguished, because that's what's stopping him from marking our Luna, our Chosen One.

Nothing would stand in my way, not when I know what I must do, the auras of my allies are gigantic, while mine remains low, like the beginning of a serene night and in the explosions when the skies opened and the Light of Day was present in the middle of the night if a wolf could smile, they would see that I was smiling.

I began to climb those black tentacles of corruption, feeling part of my paws burn, but they don't really hurt me, and I continue my way up. The wrath of Lestat and Marcus is impressive, when Lestat's first punch hit the target, I taped my claws against that darkness below so as not to have my body thrown away and then returned to my climb.

As I climb, I can feel the power of the night around me and I just close my eyes, letting my consciousness join with Night's so that we become one and, in that instant, I can feel the Night enveloping me completely.

I can see the stars that are trying to shine under the care of my Mother, I can hear those who are praying for the Night to bless and protect them, and my soul vibrates for each creature that is trying to overpower the one that dominates the earthly plane when the Sun goes to rest... I can also understand that the Night opens so that the Light of the Day can shine, but that it was not because the Light of the Day is imposing itself but because the two understand each other...

I know that those who are watching me can see that among Night's black hair there are little sparkles, they are like the stars that shine in the night sky because the night can be beautiful, but it also has its secrets and not only that, but the night can also be terrifying. If that creature thought it could enter people's minds and souls to cause fear and dismay, little did he know who he was up against.

They say monsters hide in the Night because it blesses them and for the most part this is true, my howl echoes among those tentacles and I can feel them shudder as they know their end is coming.

In one of the purest forms of the Night, the one that even the monsters want to run and hide, I open my eyes and I'm on the left shoulder of that creature, my eyes meet those of Sin and Dylan who were on the other side and at the same moment we bit the shoulder of that creature.

We were in perfect sync, while Apollo's Arrow hits the target, Marcus' beam of Fire and Light, along with me and Sin... That creature would not be able to continue existing on this plane or any other plane.

He would simply be exterminated, and his name would be said as one of the greatest traitors in history, someone who never deserved the position and the love he had... A person who did not know how to stay true to the teachings he received, who let himself be carried away by corruption and who paid attention to empty promises that would never come true.

Because he would never lean on Hope again, never feel her again and never hear words of love and understanding again... Simply because we are going to end this curse and this illusion that consumes Melvin.

Yes, delusion... Turns out he was in a delusion thinking that any of Hope's allies would let him near her again.
