Chapter 31 — Emmy

The team is working much more efficiently now that we've had a few days off to have fun. I feel edgy this morning as I run drills with Calder. I feel like something bad is going to happen. I can’t shake the feeling. The feeling I have is deep in my bones. I feel that the Enchantress is going to do something. Maybe I just want her to make a move already. We are all waiting for her army to rise up, but so far everything has been quiet, too quiet maybe that’s why I feel uneasy.

Something doesn’t feel right, and Calder is looking at me like he senses the disturbance as well. I look over at our dad who was giving some advice to Bex. Dad appears calm, so maybe it’s just in my head, but when I look back at Calder, he looks concerned. I walk up to Calder.

“You feel the disturbance?” I ask hoping he will know what I meant. Calder nods his head.

“Something isn’t right. I don’t know what it is. I woke up feeling off this morning.” Calder admits as he crosses his arms against his chest.

“Me too. I feel uneasy like I need to be on defense.” I confess. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who felt the disturbance.

“Yeah. I don’t like it.” Calder agrees.

I don’t like this uneasy feeling and the fact that Calder is feeling it too, really worries me. The day proceeds like normal, but I still can’t shake the horrible feeling I have. Calder seems disturbed as well. If we both are feeling this way, it can’t be good. I watch dad for signs that he is feeling the way we are, but there is nothing. He seems totally normal. It doesn’t make sense that Calder and I would feel off, but our dad doesn’t. The three of us tend to be in sync with stuff like this.

Calder and I are tossing electric balls back and forth trying to focus on our training, but then the bad thing happens. Time is paused and only Calder and I are unfrozen. Black vines came up from the ground and attach to our wrist and ankles. Calder looks pissed. What the hell is going on? Out from the woods Tori comes walking towards me in black skinny jeans and deep red halter top. Her hair is down and in waves. She is wearing black and red snakeskin boots with a heel on them.

“Hey sis,” Tori taunted me. “Oh wait, we aren’t really sisters. Thank heavens for that. I always knew I couldn’t be related to your pathetic ass.”

“You killed your friends and family. What the hell is wrong with you? I always knew you were evil.” I spit back at her.

Tori shrugs her shoulders like what I said has no effect on her. “You want a cookie for being right?” Tori sneers at me. “Now let's get down to business. The Enchantress and I need your blood so we can raise her wonderful army.”

Tori looks between Calder and me. Tori walks up to Calder and traces his jawline with her finger. “Oh, you are yummy.”

“Leave him alone!” I yell. “I want to talk to the Enchantress,” I demand.

Tori rolls her eyes and sighs at me. Tori now turns her attention from Calder to me.

“I am the Enchantress. See, when she took over my body, we became one. It’s not like when she took over a witch's body. I actually have a say because she doesn’t have to repress me to get what she wants. She and I are of the same mind.”

Shit, that is scary. I pull on the roots holding me, but they are too strong. I can see Calder is trying to get free as well, but like me, he is having no luck. Tori laughs at our attempts to get free. I want to scream; this is my worst nightmare come true. I look around me and everyone is still frozen. Tori walks up to me with a knife that has a black handle and a potion bottle. Tori cuts my left wrist and I cry out in pain.

“Don’t be such a baby,” Tori mocks me.

My wrist is burning like it's on fire. “What the hell is on that blade?” I ask as I grit my teeth.

“Oh, just a little weakening spell, and a little snake venom. We need you and Calder’s blood to raise our army.”

Tori fills the potion bottle with my blood and then walked over to Calder. My wrist is still bleeding. I try to heal my wounds, but the vines seem to be inhibiting my magic. I hear Calder cry out in pain as Tori cuts his right wrist. Once Tori fills the potion bottle with Calder’s blood, she steps away from us with a smirk on her face. Calder tries to heal his wounds, but he can’t. The snake venom is poisonous. I could feel the poison burn through my veins as if my blood was on fire. The spell is also weakening Calder and me. With the vines blocking our magic, the poison, and the weakening spell we are no match for the Enchantress.

“Thanks for the blood guys.” Tori winks at us.

“This means war!” I shout at Tori or the Enchantress. I don’t know which one to call her, but I don’t like either of them. Two of my worst enemies in the same body, it was a nightmare come to life.

“Oh, war is what we want. Just so you know, like my soul you won’t survive this war,” Tori winks at me “Catch you later.” She says as she disappears.

Tori disappears into the woods. The vines that were holding Calder and I disappear. Time is now unfrozen. Calder and I are on the ground. I’m holding my wrist. Carter runs to my side and holds me in his arms. Suddenly, everyone is around Calder and me. It feels like everyone is talking at once, but I can’t tell. My vision is getting blurry. I hear dad shouting orders, but I can’t make out what he is saying. Avery is instructing Carter on how to wrap my wrist, while she wraps Calder’s wrist. Brie is now shoving something down my throat, but I don’t know what it is. I’m assuming it is an antidote to the poison that is coursing through my veins.

Carter has me in his arms and carries me to the manor. My dad is carrying Calder. The world is spinning around me, and the edges of my vision are blurry. The trees look like they are dancing above me. I hear the sounds of my friends around me, but the sound is muffled and far away at the same time. My body feels cold like ice is in my veins which is a total contrast to how I was feeling a few minutes ago. I feel my body shaking as Carter carries me. The world is fading to black, and I know I am slowly losing consciousness.
