Chapter 23 — Carter
I pace the room back and forth. I’m so anxious. I hate that I can’t help Emmy or her family. None of us know where they could be, but it’s safe to say the Enchantress has something to do with it. I’m sure whatever challenge the Enchantress has set up for Emmy, Calder, and Travis it’s not something that is going to be easy. It probably has a short time limit to make it even more impossible to win. I am so pissed right now.
Bex and Ryan try to get me to go out on our bikes to help calm me down, but I refuse to leave Emmy’s body. I’m pacing in front of the couch where her body is hoping that she will pop up any minute, but that isn’t happening. I can only imagine what hell Emmy is in right now which made me feel even more useless because I can’t help her.
Bex is trying to be positive and reminding me how things worked out for him and Avery when she was under the Sleeping Death Curse, but it isn’t helping. I don’t think anything can help me right now, because I’m so worried, concerned, angry, anxious, and scared.
Vivian and Jason look just as worried as I am. Kenzie is trying to be positive along with Bexton and Brie. Alice and Ryan are being more practical and trying to figure out what to do in case Emmy didn’t wake up. I can’t even think about what to do if Emmy doesn’t wake up. I can’t face that till it actually happens, but I am also finding it hard to be positive. This is a real shit situation. Suddenly, out of nowhere Emmy, Calder and Travis’s bodies disappear.
“What the hell?” I shout to get everyone’s attention. I point to the couch where their bodies just were. “What the hell does that mean?” I am trying not to lose it.
“They woke up.” Bex states plainly.
“That’s great, but where the hell are their bodies?” I throw my hands in the air and then cross my arms across my chest.
“That’s the new question of the hour.” Jason replies with utter frustration in his voice.
I can’t say I blame him because I am fairly frustrated myself at the moment.
“My guess is their bodies went to join them where their spirits are.” Vivian suggests trying to not look so concerned.
“But that’s not how the Sleeping Death Curse works. Their spirits should go back to their bodies, not the other way around.” Bex states in his I know the facts voice.
“If that was the case Bexton then why aren’t they here?” Alice is showing her aggressive side. Bex goes to open his mouth and then shuts it because for one Mr. Smarty Pants doesn’t know the answer. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” Alice says as she puts her hands on her hips and her chin in the air.
“Are they dead, is that what their bodies disappearing means?” Ryan asks. Leave it to Ryan to ask the question no one else wants to ask. I have to give Ryan credit he did have balls.
“I don’t think so. Perhaps wherever the Enchantress took them their spirits are trapped and they need their physical bodies. The Enchantress is powerful, and she could alter the curse to fit her needs. It’s a good possibility that she took them to the Death Forest.” Vivian is being the voice of reason as per the usual and right now I welcome her wisdom because it gives me hope that Emmy was okay.
“I thought only spirits went to the Death Forest either when they died or when someone was asleep their ethereal form could enter the Death Forest.” Ryan states with confusion.
“Not always. Calder was there in his physical body and so was the Enchantress. Calder thinks it has something to do with their dark magic bloodline, or because they are descendants of the Enchantress, so it is possible that they could be in the Death Forest.” Bex is back to being a smarty pants.
I feel some relief because there is still a chance Emmy is alive. Hopefully, they can get out of the Death Forest if that’s where they are. Vivian has some servants bring in food and drinks for us. I try to eat, but it’s hard because I don't know if Emmy is okay. Vivian seems to think that they are in the Death Forest.
I think that if Emmy was dead, I would feel it. At least I think that I would know. Also, Luna doesn’t seem to be acting weird and she is connected to Emmy telepathically. I think if Emmy were dead that Luna would whine or do something. I can tell Luna knows something is off, but she is not acting sad or anything that would make me think Emmy was dead. However, it still doesn’t mean Emmy is safe, or that she might not die, hell she could be dying for all I know. I need her to come home soon.
