It’s been a few weeks since Emmy and I found out that we will be having a baby in about seven months. The baby will be born in April just like Calder and Emmy. Emmy has been on lockdown at the manor since we found out. No one wants to take the risk of the Enchantress attacking Emmy. I feel bad because I know Emmy is going stir crazy, so I’ve planned a picnic in the woods that surround the manor.
After the Enchantress attacked Emmy and Calder on the manor’s property, Travis and Vivian put up a barrier protection spell. As long as we don’t go outside of the barrier, we should be okay. Gemma thinks it will do Emmy good to get some fresh air, so she has helped me plan our little outing. I know Emmy will be glad to go outside. I’m even going to bring Luna with us. Luna hasn’t left Emmy’s side since we found out about the baby, I’m glad that when I can’t be around there is good old loyal Luna.
I was right. Emmy is thrilled to be outside. It’s still warm out, but Emmy doesn’t seem to mind. I think she is just happy to be getting fresh air. The last few weeks Vivian has been keeping Emmy busy with learning how to run the coven, and while she has been keeping Emmy busy, it’s not enough.
We all are so worried about Emmy, and I know how much she hates us fussing over her, but we can’t help it. Gemma has been great about talking with Emmy about the pregnancy, and what it’s like to feel anxious with the Enchantress on the loose. Gemma went through the same thing while she was pregnant with Emmy. Gemma and Travis didn’t worry so much with Calder because they didn’t know they had to.
Travis has been really great with giving me advice when it comes to having a pregnant wife. Emmy isn’t my wife yet, but we plan on getting married the moment the war is over. I’ve already got Emmy a ring, and now I’m just waiting for the right moment. I want it to be special. Everyone knows I have the ring, and they all have been giving me ideas. Okay, mostly the girls are giving me ideas. Mainly Gemma, Kenzie, and Brie, but Alice, Avery, and Vivian have been known to drop hints my way.
Once we get to the spot I mapped out, thanks to Lynden who was more than willing to help me plan this date, I set everything up. Emmy sits on the blanket, and I serve her food. I made us turkey, bacon, cheddar, and avocado sandwiches on sourdough bread. I brought us fresh fruit salad, and pasta salad. Emmy has been craving these items like they are going out of style. Thankfully her cravings aren’t too horrible or weird. Emmy had a bit of morning sickness, but Kenzie fixed her a potion for it, and now Emmy is like a new woman.
Emmy is enjoying herself, and I’m glad I can do this for her. Luna is chasing squirrels up the trees. Luna is our furry child, well that’s what Emmy and I call her. I have to admit the fluff ball has grown on me. I didn’t think I had room in my heart for another dog after I lost my childhood dog, but Luna has proven me wrong. I know Emmy loves that I get along with Luna.
After we eat lunch, we sit and enjoy the summer weather. I know Emmy doesn’t want to go back anytime soon, and I made sure to clear this afternoon, so I could spend time with Emmy. We need as much time together as we can before the baby comes even if that is hard because we are in the middle of a damn war.
Emmy is resting her head on my stomach with her eyes closed. I think she might be napping, but she will never admit it. I know Emmy has been extra tired lately, but she won’t admit it. Suddenly Luna starts barking. Emmy shoots up straight. Something is wrong.
“Emmy what’s wrong?” I ask.
Luna is freaking out. There must be a threat nearby, and I have a feeling I’m not going to like it.
“Carter we are in the boundaries of the protection spell, right?”
“Afraid not,” the Enchantress states.
That’s not possible, but something clearly went wrong in planning this outing.
“Get away from Emmy!” I shout and move Emmy behind me.
Luna is on my side growling. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Luna sound so pissed.
“Oh please.” The Enchantress waves her hand at me like I'm an annoying fly she can just swat away.
It’s still weird the Enchantress is in Tori’s body, but I know that Tori is gone, at least I’m going to pretend she is, so the good memories I have won’t be tainted. The Enchantress waves her hands, and I go flying into a tree. I know I’ve broken some ribs. I can feel it, but I don’t let that stop me. I get up and run towards Emmy. I don’t see Luna in sight, and I don’t know where she is. My focus is on Emmy who is trying to fight off the Enchantress. The Enchantress sees me coming at her, and sends me flying again, but this I hit my head hard on a tree trunk. I’m losing consciousness, and my vision is blurry. The last thing I see is the Enchantress knocking Emmy out.
When I wake up, I’m in the healing wing. I try to sit up, but my head is pounding, and my ribs hurt like hell. After a few moments I manage to sit up. I have to find Emmy; she is in danger. I’m worried sick, no wait I feel sick. I close my eyes to stop the room from spinning.
“Woah there, champ.” I hear Travis warning me.
“Wh-Where is Emmy?” I ask “First take this.” Travis hands me a potion, and I take it without even looking at it. “Emmy was taken by the Enchantress. Calder and the team are working on a rescue mission. We’ve also contacted the Three.”
“I don’t understand. I made sure we were within the boundaries.”
“That wasn’t your fault, it was Lynden's. After Emmy sent Luna to come get us, and we found you, Lynden disappeared. I fear Lynden may have betrayed us.”
“What? Why? She’s supposed to be helping us?”
“I know, but she gave you the location, we all knew where the boundary protection spell ended. She knew she was sending you both into harm's way.”
“I should have known we were out of the boundary.”
“You couldn’t have known. Someone tampered with the boundary. My guess would be the Enchantress. If Lynden was helping her, she would have been able to tamper with the boundary line. Lynden would have been able to give her all the information she would need to mess with the boundary. Calder went to tell the Three what happened, he used his stone.”
I got to try to get out of bed, but Travis stops me.
“I don’t know where you think you’re going soon, but you have to stay here. You need rest. You are in no shape to go rescue Emmy. I know how badly you want to, but you can’t. Emmy will need you when she comes back. Besides, you can’t go to the Death Forest in your condition.”
“The Death Forest?”
“Yes, that’s where Emmy is. The protection spell Eva used on the baby also allows us to track the baby, so if Emmy gets taken, we can find her.”
Travis gives me a few more potions. I want to get help from Emmy, but I can’t. I know Travis gave me a potion to help me relax, and it’s making me feel sleepy. Gemma comes to check on me along with Vivian, Jason, and Kenzie. I have to wonder if Ivy knows her sister might be a traitor. Lynden has to be the traitor; it all adds up. I want to ask about the rescue mission, but I’m starting to doze off which was probably Travis’s plan all along.
