Chapter 28: The Mines
The doors of the king's chamber creaked open, revealing King Hitler, his presence commanding attention as he strode in, and the queen at his side. The council members, seated, rose in unison, their eyes filled with expectation.
King Hitler cleared his throat, his voice resonating through the chamber. "Esteemed council members, I come before you today with both joy and concern."
A hushed anticipation settled in the room as the council members exchanged curious glances.
The Queen, radiant and regal, stood beside her alpha, her hand resting protectively on her belly. The room seemed to glow as she smiled from ear to ear.
Elias continued, his gaze steady. "My wife, the Queen, is with a child. The pack is blessed with the prospect of a new generation, one that shall carry my legacy forward."
A collective gasp of delight and awe swept through the chamber. Council members exchanged jubilant smiles, their hearts brimming with hope for the future.
One of the council members stood up, her eyes sparkling with joy. "My King, this is indeed a momentous occasion. The pack rejoices with you in this blessing. May this child grow to be strong, wise, and a beacon of hope for our kind."
The queen's smile illuminated the room, her gratitude evident. "Thank you, Councilor. Your words warm our hearts."
Yet, amidst the joy, a shadow of concern darkened the council's eyes. "However, we must also address a pressing matter. The recent rash of kidnappings by rogues threatens our pack's security and stability."
A solemn hush fell over the chamber, the gravity of the situation weighing on every heart present.
Councilor Heron, known for his bold mind, spoke up. "The safety of our pack is important. We must act swiftly and decisively to quell this threat."
The council members exchanged glances as they murmured amongst themselves.
The king nodded, acknowledging their worries. "We must increase patrols and fortify our borders. The rogues must understand that they are tampering with the wrong pack."
"My King, be rest assured; we will spare no effort in safeguarding our kin. Together, we shall overcome this trial."
"My king, I heard we have something of theirs that belongs to them; we are not aware of anything that belongs to them, yet they said they won't stop till they get it, and I trust our king not to get involved in shady acts".
The king cleared his throat.Rogues always claim what's never theirs; all we have, we earned in our name; there is nothing shady about that".
"I'm sorry, my lord; I hated it and brought it to your attention.
"Are the young boys ready? We need more manpower, and time isn't on our side".
The head of security replied,Yes, my king, they are ready and will be sent soon".
He nodded as they talked about other things. The seer was silent, looked on as they all were, and rejoiced. He said nothing and smiled in mockery.
The meeting stretched into the evening, with the council members thinking of plans and strategies to address the threat posed by the rogues.
As the discussions came to a close, the councilors turned their attention once again to the royal couple. The head of market women approached them with a reassuring smile. "My King, My Queen, you have our full support in these trying times. Your child carries the promise of a new era, and we shall do all in our power to ensure that this era is one of peace and prosperity."
They exchanged a glance, their hearts swelling with gratitude.
The king dismissed the queen, and Kira waited behind at the king's request.
King Hitler sat on his throne, his brow furrowed with worry, as Kira stood with him.
"Kira," the king's voice boomed, "I must know your thoughts on these rogue kidnappings. The threats are growing bolder by the day."
"My King, these rogues are desperate and determined. They seek more than ransom; they want a lasting solution to their problem."
The king leaned forward, his gaze fixed on Kira. "And what would you suggest we do?"
Kira took a deep breath. "My King, I propose we consider releasing control of the gold mine to them. By doing so, we may secure not only the safety of our citizens but also a lasting peace."
The king's eyes widened as he seemed taken aback. "Release the gold mine? Kira! To give it away."
Kira interrupted, her voice steady yet persuasive. "Your Majesty, the gold mine has brought prosperity, but it really wasn't ours to start with, and the people don't know about this mine. How will they feel if they know the king is the one behind their pains? By releasing control, we demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation and fairness."
The king's fingers drummed on the armrest, deep in thought. "But what guarantee do we have that this will lead to peace and not to further demands?"
Kira met his gaze unwaveringly. "We negotiate the terms, Your Majesty. I will represent our pack and speak with them".
King Hitler sighed heavily, weariness etched on his face. "It is a risky gambit, Kira."
"My King, we can explore alternative sources of wealth. But if we continue down this path of conflict, the cost in lives and stability will be immeasurable," Kira reasoned.
The king nodded slowly, his resolve firming. "Very well, Kira. Give me time to think it through. We shall begin negotiations immediately."
Relief washed over Kira's face, but she maintained her composure. "Thank you, Your Majesty.
"Thank you, Kira". Surprised, the king was thanking her. Kira turned back, a hint of a smile touching her lips. "I serve the kingdom, Your Majesty, and will always strive for its best interests. Congratulations once again on the news of an heir, my king".
With that, Kira left the grand chamber, feeling a mixture of triumph and the weight of responsibility being shed on her. Finally, things are going to turn out right. The king has an heir to the land; she seems to be getting her life together; she has no secrets to settle with the king; and she has a great relationship with Lola.
What more can she ask?
