Chapter 31: Deception In A Strange World
Before I knew it, my eyes slowly fluttered open. "Where am I? This place isn't familiar to me at all!" I screamed in the quietness of the unknown room.
Everything around me was like it was out of a storybook. Yet, it was both familiar and not at the same time. I have to know if I'm the only one seeing this. I thought as I opened my mind-link to communicate with Elias and Gabriel.
"Gabriel, do you see what I see?" I mind-linked one of my mates, hoping we were in the same situation. While I waited for a response, the sound of a door opening caused my body to shake with fear.
Whoever it was brought me back to the present. Which I desperately wished didn't happen. Yet, I couldn't do anything about it.
***Creak, slam!*** The door closed with a loud thud, and my hands started becoming clammier than before.
**Squeak, squeak.**
The floorboards squeaked quietly, disturbing the original quietness of the room.
*Who's here? Am I not alone? Is the person trying to scare me or something?* I wondered as the door opened slowly, causing my hands to begin shaking and my heart rate to speed up faster than it was before.
I don't feel safe here. What if someone came into this room to take advantage of me? As that crossed my mind, I sat up quickly, and the soft plush blanket pooled around my feet.
"I'm so f*cking scared. Whoever it is, there is something wrong in this world."* I whispered as clinking heels made their way further inside the room. Not wanting to waste a second, I stood off the bed.
I took a deep breath before I made my way to the door slowly.
*I don't want whoever it is to know I am scared. All I will do is show them my strength, instead of my fear. I thought while I inched my way to the door, as I tried to put up a strong front.*
*Before I could get any further, a man's voice I hadn't heard before reached my ear, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I don't know who this is, so why am I feeling this way? And why haven't I heard from my wolf yet? Is she blocked somehow? I wondered as he started to speak in a low tone.*
*"Where are you going darling?" A gruff voice spoke, pulling me back down onto the bed.*
Fearful of who this stranger was, I tried to shake his arms off of me. But all he did was pull me further.
*Before I could answer this man's question, a woman who was not that far away talked.*
*"Good Morning Mrs. Depree. How did you sleep?" She said, her voice laden with curiosity and intrigue. With each remark she made, I felt a sense of ease and comfort filling my heart.*
*Who is this woman, and why does she give me this feeling? Am I in some type of dream that I don't know? Or am I back at home with my family? I wondered as her words left her mouth, causing my heart rate to cool.*
*Once I stopped hyperventilating, I looked her straight in the eyes. A surge of confidence filled me to the brim, just enough to ask her the question that was laid upon my mind.*
*"Who are you?" I asked, unable to keep my nerves at bay as the sound of rushing water made its way toward my ear. I wonder where that sound is coming from. It is a cooling sensation, that is calming me down. How could that be? I thought to myself while awaiting the lady's response.*
*I looked to my left and right as he wrapped his hand around my waist. This man's warm hands feel different from that of my mates. But could it just be that I'm dazed and confused? Or am I overthinking it?*
*Then my eyes widened at the sight I saw beside me. The man who was lying there had a striking resemblance to Elias. It was uncanny. Was this man a doppelganger? Or was he truly my mate?*
*"Is that you, Elias?" I questioned, uncertainty filling my body.*
*This person's voice reminded me of his, yet it was different at the same time. Right as I was about to respond again, he spoke up.*
As time passed, my eyesight began clearing a little more. Then a sigh escaped my lips. I am not in the dark room where we were before. How is that possible? Did she open up a portal that transported only me to this strange place? I pondered as I wrapped my arms around my waistline.
*"Babe, I'm not Elias. You know my name is Carl, your husband/mate." He growled before standing up off the bed.*
*Although I couldn't understand the reality of the situation, something about this person took me by surprise. And I don't believe that he is who he says he is.*
*His eyes widened further and then he squinted.*
"Now tell me, who the f*ck is Elias? Why were you calling me by this man's name?" Carl snarled while advancing toward me.*
*With each step he took, his teeth started growing into fangs. As he closed in on me, something inside of me shifted.*
*I was always deemed as this weak werewolf person, but I never let that get in my way. Yet, today is different. For some reason, this stranger I never met caused me to shake with fear.*
*I hate being seen as fcking weak! Why can't I show this stranger I shouldn't be taken advantage of? But something about him sends chills down my spine.* I thought to myself while gaining courage in my chest.
I desperately didn't want to give this man any advantage in using my fear against him.
"I... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you." I replied, my voice shaking with fear.
I looked into this man's dark blue eyes and breathed deeply before continuing. The way he stared at me, was like a cloak of darkness falling upon me.
*I can't let this man overshadow my strength of heart.* I pondered while I opened my mouth to speak.
"Something happened, and I'm having difficulty adjusting to my new surroundings."
