Chapter 21 I am guilty
Lucifer’s P.O.V.
“What’s wrong with her? Why is she in this state?” Willow asked Maira, the pack doctor, in a panicked tone.
I had almost ground down all my molars by now. Anaya woke up. She talked with Evan and Willow, and suddenly her condition worsened.
She couldn’t control her stomach and almost peed in her pants. Willow took her to the bathroom, but Anaya’s condition worsened after the first release, and soon she collapsed.
She was deathly pale and barely breathing when I found her in the bathroom with Willow.
Willow had covered her, saving Anaya’s embarrassment as Theo was right behind me.
“I really don’t understand what exactly is wrong with her.” Maira muttered in a troubled tone.
I narrowed my eyes while listening to her.
“I mean, all her vitals are alright. Her internal organs seem not to be functioning normally, though. That’s strange.” She continued in the same tone.
“And I just checked her blood for any poisoning. Nothing.” She looked at me with a troubled expression.
“You…. You said that you asked her to accept you as her mate, right?” She asked me while knitting her brows tightly.
I was confused by her question but nodded in agreement.
“You said chosen mate or just 'mate'?" she asked the next question, and my heart skipped a beat.
“Is this about his curse?” Willow exclaimed aloud in panic.
Beast snarled aloud, baring his canines while my heart stopped beating for a few seconds.
“N… none of us used the “chosen” word.” I mumbled my reply in a daze; my heart started beating furiously the next second.
Maira’s eyes widened in shock.
“Fk.” Theo muttered in shock while Willow gasped aloud.
Maira didn’t even blink for a few seconds, and I just stared at her in a daze, not knowing how to react.
If you take any other person as your mate other than your fated mate, you need to say the word “Chosen” while accepting each other.
Only fated mates don’t need to use this word.
The word "mate" alone is considered as the fated mate during the accepting ritual.
And I used this word to put Anaya’s life in danger without realizing it.
What the fk is wrong with me?
"Why did we do that, Lucifer? It's not only your wish but my desire too. Why did we ask her to accept us as her mate? We put her life in danger." Beast almost wailed in pain and guilt.
I was also guilty, but what I had done couldn't be changed, leaving me enraged and helpless.
“Can…. Can you tell me why you forced her to be your mate?” she asked with a bit of difficulty after some time.
“I….. don’t know. I…. I just don’t want her to…. To go away from me.” I answered truthfully, but it also left me breathless.
She just blinked while listening to me with no expression on her face, and her eyes unfocused.
We all snapped our heads in Anaya’s direction when she moaned aloud in pain.
“Fk.” Maira cursed and immediately got on the bed.
“She is in a lot of pain. Do something to relieve her.” Beast snarled at me in pain.
Anaya’s body started trembling hard.
Willow approached Anaya from the other side.
Both women tried to control Anaya's body while I watched them helplessly.
Suddenly Anaya retched, and blood spat out of her mouth.
“Move.” I roared in panic and almost lunged on the bed.
Maira and Willow immediately moved away, and I pulled Anaya into my embrace.
She spat blood again, staining my clothes and my chest, but I didn’t care about anything else.
“Hey… Hey. You are okay. Ju… just stay strong.” I rocked her body while cradling it on my lap.
She was still unconscious and was coughing blood.
“Hold her tight. I…. I don’t know what happened, b.. but I feel th… that we can help her get some strength.” Beast instructed me while stammering a little.
I immediately did what he asked.
I never doubted Beast’s instincts.
“Let me change her drip too. She needs more strength to deal with this mess.” Maira muttered angrily but started working on whatever she wanted to do to save Anaya.
Anaya’s body was now limp against my chest. I felt faint sparks that were enough to send a shiver down my spine.
A completely different feeling for me and Beast.
So, this is the feeling all the mated wolves talk about.
If these faint sparks give this amazing feeling, then what about the full-blown sparks?
“Don’t be greedy, Lucifer. This is our luck that we got her.” Beast scolded me, but I could feel his worry for Anaya.
“Your mate bond.” Suddenly Maira exclaimed in shock again.
I growled threateningly, holding Anaya tight.
“You.. you can share your strength with her through your mate bond?” she asked me excitedly.
I looked at her in confusion but soon understood what she meant.
Beast and I both groaned in pain at the same time.
“I understand now.” She clapped excitedly, but the pain in my body increased.
“I don’t care if I have to go through hell to save her. She is my mate now. I am going to use the last ounce of our strength to save her.” Beast grumbled in determination, writhing in pain now.
The pain reaching our core was more than I had ever experienced, even more than when I was badly injured in a battle at age 13.
“No wonder she is unconscious. She is just human. She could have died the second the first wave of pain had hit her body.” Beast continued grumbling angrily, moaning in pain; my body twisted on weird angles to get some ease in pain, but nothing helped a little.
“Hang on, Lucifer. Her condition is stabilizing.” Maira urged, both anxious and excited.
I was now breathing heavily because of the intensity of the pain.
Suddenly Anaya whimpered in pain, making me tighten my grip on her body. She looked so frail and small against my large frame. Her body was soft, but holding her felt like home.
“A little more, little bunny. Just hang on a little longer with me. I promise that I will not let anything happen to you.” I mumbled to her, kissing her forehead and her temple.
Her body was now burning, but her breathing was now regular.
I groaned in pain one more time when the second wave of pain hit my core with so much force that I almost collapsed with her in my embrace.
Maira adjusted the drip one more time, but her eyes didn’t leave the screen of the vital monitor. The machine was now beeping rapidly.
I guess her heartbeat was still high.
“She is now running a fever.” I told Maira when the heat became unbearable to me.
“I have administered the medicine for fever in the drip. Apart from the fever, the strength passing from you to her is also producing some heat, I guess. Thi… this is the first time that I experienced something like this, Alpha.” Maira replied to me worriedly, biting her nails anxiously.
