Chapter 97 Untitled Chapter
DANE
“Detective Nielsen, I'm calling to report a kidnapping situation. Five women, it's Miss Gianna Brooks, her family, and her friend. We've tracked them down. I will send the address of the location,” he listened for a few seconds before he ended the call and quickly typed the address and sent it.
“Do any of you have a gun?” Damon asked.
“No, do you?” Jax answered.
“I do,” he said “But I don't have it on me.” I glared at him.
“Don't look at me like. I'm just trying to remind you those fucker, whoever they are, have guns. Guns they have no problem using, so we have to think of a strategy.”
“We did,” he arched his brow.
“You're coming with….” I started but paused my eyes wide when I heard gunshots. My heart stopped.
“Gianna!” Then I bolted towards the sound that came from the building. I was running alongside Jax with Ruin right behind us.
A burst of adrenaline courses through me; rage, fear, and desperation have me running as I've never run before. My heart jumped in my chest as another gunshot sounded.
“No, God.” For the first time in my life, I was praying to God, begging him to keep her safe. Blinded by so many different emotions, I almost crashed into the three figures I hadn't noticed until then.
We slowed down when I recognized them, Gianna's grandmother, her cousin, and her friend. There's no Gianna.
“Where is she?” I growled.
“Inside…he shot…oh my God,” her cousin started sobbing, her words disjointed. I didn't have time for this. And it seems Jax was thinking the same.
We ran straight into the door they just came through. Relief and terror hit me straight in the gut as I took in the scene all at once. She was alive and screaming fighting an ugly as fuck bastard trying to force her face-first into the burning fire.
We both ran towards her; I was so focused on her that I didn't see the second bastard until he raised his gun, pointed at me, and fired; the fucker must either be drunk or stupid because he missed.
I growled as I rushed him which was utterly stupid, but I didn't have the time to think. He raised his hand, angled his gun, and went to fire again. A leg kicked his shin, which distracted him as he fired; I hissed as the gun grazed me and hit the wall behind me.
The bald fucker went to hit the woman who had saved me but I was already there. My fist flew and connected with his face, sending him down. I followed him and rained punches on him. He tried to fight back but he was no match for the anger and rage inside me.
My last punch knocked the fucker out. I glanced up at the far distance where I had last seen her. Jax was already there protecting her as they stood off with the other idiot. I glanced back to where I had seen the woman. Ruin has Gianna's Aunt in his arms. The woman looks so pale, but she is still breathing.
“Get her out and take her to the hospital, Ruin.” I pray she survives for her sake and Gianna's and because I owe her one. She was brave and didn't deserve to die like this.
I've long heard that crying heals. Those tears were sadness, grief, and anxiety draining, making the burden in your heart and soul light.
To be honest, I didn't understand it all that well; I don't see how crying could change anything. But as I watched this strong, beautiful woman, I'd fallen madly in love with.
My heart ached for her, and I hoped and wished she'd cry and lighten the horror of this night.
Seeing her fight desperately as she screamed for help will forever stay in my head, haunting me.
That scene was the worst thing I've ever seen, and it's ingrained in my mind.
The fight with the man who I now know was Gianna's ex had gone easier than I anticipated; we had beaten the fucking coward within an inch of his life, and yet, to me, it wasn't enough.
Though I had wanted to kill that fucker for the hell he'd put her through. I'd listened to her and did as she said, let the cops handle the bastard.
Gianna hadn't cried the entire ride to the hospital; she hadn't even flinched when the paramedics treated the burn on her hand.
I was starting to get worried about her state of mind when she just sat there like a mannequin, not crying or talking.
I had every intention of going to her and shaking her just so she wouldn't look like that, so she could cry and wail if she wanted to, and it would help just so she would get a little bit of relief.
But that's when the doctors came and gave us the good news. And then, finally, she cried, and it was heartbreaking and soul-wrecking watching my beautiful Red cry.
