Chapter 80 Untitled Chapter
DANE

“Does it hurt?” Jax asked, staring at the gash on my forehead.

“No,” I replied, wiping the blood off my face, of course I was lying. I was hit with a fucking gun not a pillow. He knew damn well it hurt.

But I wasn't going to cry or whine about it, there are worse things than being clocked with a gun to the head.

There's a much worse thing that is waiting for us, compared to being sent back to jail. I prefer being hit a thousand times over than going back to that hell hole.

I'd promise myself that I wasn't going back to that place ever again. And yet here we are.

I can't help thinking someone obviously had it out for us. With everything that has been going on, I'm getting even more convinced of this.

“You dumb fucker, why the fuck did you exposed yourself and messed up everything? You should have fucking left at least then we'll stand a chance of you getting me out,” Jax growled cutting through the silence, he was back on his feet and pacing again.

He's been at it since we got here, he would sit in silence for a while then stand up and begin pacing.

“Fuck what were you think. You should have left. Just look at you. You're bleeding, why don't you think. What's the use of jumping in. Now, we're both stuck in here and probably going to jail again, only this time it's for abduction and rape,” Jax spat.

He was back on the metal bench in the lock up cell we've both been in for the past hour.

I understand his frustration. Fuck! He was right, I should have waited and think of a way to get him out instead of exposing myself like a fucking idiot.

But seeing him back there, a gun pointed at his head brings back memories. Memories I'd worked hard to bury, all of it was suddenly there playing in my head.

I fucking panicked, I didn't think just acted out of fear. Just the thought of him getting sent to jail alone made that old fear of being separated from him surge.

So I acted impulsively, and I didn't regret it. Maybe it was the guilt I have held onto for almost a decade that made me thoughtless.

But when I saw him on his knees and that police officer slapping the handcuffs on his hands trapped behind him. I tripped, I was transported back in time, to the worst day of my life, the day our life had taken a wrong turn.

The day Jax became an accomplice to what I've done despite him being innocent.

A part of me hated him for pulling that shit. I hated that he always tried to take responsibility for my actions, always cleaning up my mess as though he was older.

I'm a fucking grown up I am responsible for my actions and could take care of my shit.

He's just a few minutes older than I was, so I don't get what he's trying to prove by always acting like the older responsible brother.

But it's also why I love him, because I know why he did it. It's the same reason why I can't let him shoulder this blame all on his own.

It's the same fucking reason why I would kill and die for him.

Because we're all that we got, and we've always had each other's back through thick and thin.

As far back as I can remember we've always protected each other and we always will. I can't help that I always felt guilty and apologetic towards him, for letting him do what he did back then.

I always felt like I had robbed him of his bright future. Anyway what's done is done.

“I wasn't going to sit my ass down and watch you get arrested for something we both did. You're just angry you didn't get to act the hero again fucker,” I replied without any heat.

“You got me, it's my hero complex, I can't help it,” he said grinning.

“Well, I can't have you saving the day all the time. Even Clark Kent can't save the world all of the time, he's got to leave the others to have their moments,” I returned.

“Only you didn't save the day.”

“No, I didn't.” We both chuckled dryly.

“That's your thing you know,” I said. “I only know how to fuck shits up.”

“That's not true…” he began,

“It is and we both know it. And I don't need you telling me otherwise.” With that. I get up and lean against the barred iron.

From here we could both hear Gianna's voice in the background though her words aren't exactly clear, the cop's are. He was loud enough that we could fill in the gaps.

That beautiful gorgeous stubborn ass woman is fighting for us. She's asking they let us go and her family is against it, I wish I could say I was happy she's defending us.

But I'm not, because I know when she learns the truth of who we are, she's going to turn her back on us and not only that she's going to hate us, worse than she ever did before.
