Chapter 215 The Sick fuck!
Chapter 215 The Sick fuck!
I heard footsteps on the stairs above me. Amelia was coming back down with a broom, and I couldn't let her see me like this—holding the photograph that proved my mother had been sleeping with her mate.
My hands shook as I shoved the picture into my pocket and stepped away from the boxes. The basement suddenly felt suffocating, the musty air thick in my lungs.
"You leaving?" Amelia called from the bottom of the stairs, broom in hand.
"Yes!" I said, probably too quickly. "I think we should stay away from this stuff for now. It reminds me of my own childhood."
She paused, tilting her head. "But you wanted to—"
I was already pushing past her, taking the stairs two at a time. "I'll see you later!"
My heart hammered against my ribs as I fled upstairs. The photograph felt like it was burning a hole in my pocket. All those years of wondering about my father, all those questions my mother deflected, and now this.
She was the mistress.
The woman who ruined Amelia's marriage. The woman who got pregnant and then supposedly let her baby die on a cold night. Except I didn't die, did I? I was right here, very much alive.
But why did everyone think I was dead?
I burst into my bedroom without knocking. My mother was still buried under her blankets, the same position I'd left her in this morning. The sight of her lying there, probably hiding from more questions, made something snap inside me.
I grabbed the edge of her blanket and ripped it off.
"Wake up!"
“Hm? When did you come home?” Mom rubbed her eyes and stretched, cracking her bones and comfortably sitting up after grabbing a sweet nap.
None of which I could do because she had made my life pathetic.
"Do you know Amelia?" I muttered at her, leaned over her, and pointed my finger at her.
"Watch your tone!" she muttered back, grabbing my finger to twist it, but I freed myself with a sudden jerk.
"Don't fucking dodge my question. When we came here, did you know she was Axiom's wife and mate?" As I asked her that question with anger filled eyes, she took a deep breath and folded her arms over her chest, refusing to speak to me.
“You cannot stay silent and think I will leave you be. I have been working my ass off so that you can enjoy whatever phase you are in, but now I want answers. Either you tell me or I will start digging, and you better believe it will be nasty for you,” I was yammering, listening to my own words and my heartbeat.
"I don't know Axiom, okay?" She scoffed, thinking that would be enough to fool me.
"Then what the hell is this?" thankfully, I have grabbed the picture, or else she would have fooled me with her manipulation.
Her eyes widened, and I watched her face go completely white. Her fingers trembled as she reached toward the photo, then pulled back like it might burn her.
"Where did you get this?" she whispered.
"Oh, please! Don't act like I hurt you. I just want to know if I'm—is Axiom a weredragon? Is that why he was killed?"
She stared down at the photo, her lips pressed into a thin line. I could see tears forming in her eyes, but she wasn't talking.
"Damn it, answer me!"
That's when she lunged at me. Her hand flew toward my face, but I caught her wrist before she could slap me.
"Tell me," I growled, squeezing tighter than I probably should have.
"I have nothing to tell you," she said through gritted teeth.
Before either of us could escalate further, Amelia burst through the door.
"Let go," she commanded, grabbing both our arms and physically separating us. "What the hell is wrong with you two? Fighting all day long."
My mother started pacing back and forth, running her hands through her hair like a caged animal. She looked terrified, guilty, and desperate all at once.
"I'm not letting this go," I shouted at her retreating figure.
"I've done so much for you, and you question me?" she shot back.
"Enough!" Amelia stepped between us again. "You two are scaring my son. Rose, you're staying in my room for now."
She grabbed my mother's arm and started pulling her toward the door, but not before shooting me a look that clearly said cool it.
As soon as they were gone, I heard the click of a lock. Amelia had locked my mother in with her, probably to give both of us time to calm down.
I was still fuming when I heard footsteps in the hallway. The door was still open, and Maxwell appeared in the doorway like some kind of creepy shadow.
"She's not very nice to you," he said, leaning against the doorframe.
"Go away, Maxwell. The last thing I want right now is a lecture from you."
But instead of leaving, he stepped into my room and closed the door behind him. Something about the way he moved made my skin crawl.
"Why do you hate me?" he asked, moving closer. "Is it because I kissed you that day?"
"Get out of my way!" I tried to push past him, but he blocked the door.
"You don't come to my floor to play with me anymore."
"That was once, and only because I didn't know you were a fucking pervert!"
His face broke into this twisted smile that made my stomach turn. "I made you mad, didn't I? But I know how to make it up to you. I heard pretty girls like you enjoy gifts. I can't afford expensive things, so I made you something. Look!"
He pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to me. At first, I thought it might be some childish drawing, maybe an apology card. But when I unfolded it, bile rose in my throat.
It was a drawing of me getting fucked by him in several different positions.
"What the fuck is this?" I demanded angrily, clenching my fists and taking slow but alarming steps in his direction while he kept backing away from me.
"Soon we'll be doing this, you and me," he mumbled, and a smirk appeared on the corner of his lips.
