Chapter 33 Cops
Wes' POV
*"Okay, I'm gonna say this once more, and maybe it will sink into your thick skull. We have not had sex.* I would *love to,* but she isn't ready for it. And even if we had had sex, *I am her boyfriend, not a one night thing.* She isn't jumping from man to man to satisfy some sort of fantasy *like you do*. So think before you speak, dammit. *You were supposed to be her friend,* and all you've done so far is *hurt her!*" I grind my teeth, raging on the inside.
"Well... Why her and not me? *Why couldn't I be your girlfriend?*" Gwen whines again.
"I'm sure I already explained this to you, *but since you seem to be dumber than I gave you credit for, I'm not looking for a slut who's been in every male bed on and off campus!* I was not interested in you the whole two years I've known you, Gwen. What makes you think I would change my mind now?" I demand.
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door.
Gwen's pale face shifts from the intimate hold I have on my girl and looks at the door. There seems to be some kinda shift in her eyes. Hopefully that means I've finally gotten through to the slut, but I'm not holding my breath. For all I know, she is plotting something to get rid of my princess so she can try and take her place. In some kind of daze, she walks over and lets the officers in.
Gwen seems surprised to see them here, but I don't know why. *We said we were calling the cops.*
A male officer that seems to spend quite a few hours in the gym, but he looks like a decent guy, and a female officer with a hard expression on her face, both look at Gwen.
"Ms. Monroe?" The male asks. He actually looks a little confused right now. Didn't he talk to Jamie last night? Could he not recognize her?
Gwen just shakes her head and points to Jamie, huddled in my arms.
Both officers sigh as they look in our direction and I see recognition pass through their faces as they nod at her and march into the room, stopping a couple of feet in front of us.
The male looks down at us with an understanding face. "Ms. Monroe?" he asks once again.
Jamie nods her head and scoots off my lap. "Yes, I'm Jamie," she responds, her voice thick with emotion.
"And you are?" The officer held his hand out to me. I shake it firmly.
"I'm Weston Adams, Jamie's boyfriend." I explain.
The officer nods his head in acknowledgement and then turns his attention back to Jamie.
"Jamie, I'm Officer Young, and this is my partner officer Wilson. I believe we talked to you last night?" He asks. "Can you tell us what happened?"
Jamie nods her head. "Yes, I was there last night. But I didn't go home... I was too upset, so I went to Wes' room, and he held me until I fell asleep. Then we woke up and I needed to come home and get ready for my class, since I only had my clothes from yesterday..." she says, looking down at her rumpled clothes in embarrassment.
"Go on," Officer Young says, writing down notes in a little notebook.
"I got here... And Gwen was upset with me. We had a fight... and then she ran to her room..." She gulps, looking up at me.
I reach out and take her hand, squeezing it in reassurance. I know this is hard for her. *It's hard for me, and I'm not even the one being threatened!* I'm not the one with some psycho stalker putting replicas of myself in my room.
"We were going to my room, and when I opened my door, I saw the mannequin. I accused Gwen of being the one who put it there *because I didn't see how anyone else would have access to my room,"* she explains.
The officers nod and look at each other. I don't know what it is that passes between the two, but they look like they can communicate through telepathy... *I wish I had that ability!*
"Gwen said she didn't know anything about it. Then I called you guys, and we've been waiting..." Jamie says.
She skipped over the *second argument* we had with Gwen, but it's irrelevant to the investigation anyway. It is something that we will have to figure out at some point *because Gwen really is becoming a problem,* even if she has nothing to do with the mannequin.
I lift her hand to my lips and kiss it softly, giving her an encouraging smile. *She did it.* Now it's their turn to figure out this mess.
"Can we see the mannequin?" Officer Wilson asks, speaking for the first time.
Jamie nods. I stand up and pull her to her feet, putting a supportive arm around her as we all make our way down the short hallway where her bedroom door stands open.
The officers take more photos of the mannequin.
"Another riddle," sighs Young.
"The answer is a heart," responds Wilson.
"*Yeah, I kinda got that*. Thanks, Wilson," he chuckled sadly.
"It looks just like her," Wilson whispers to her partner.
"I know. It's the same one from last night," Young responds.
"Jamie, do you mind if we take this thing off your hands?" Officer Young asks.
"Please. It's been freaking me out since yesterday," Jamie admits.
Both officers nod in understanding as they put on gloves and slowly start to remove the huge dummy.
Officer Young stops at the door. He pulls a small peice of paper out of his pocket and hands it to me. "If there is anything else, let us know," he instructs.
I nod my head. "Sure thing," I assure him.
Then he shifts his attention back to Jamie one more time and before they leave, he opens his mouth, "We will let you know if we find anything out," he promises.
"Thank you," Jamie says with a half smile.
I sigh as they finally leave the dorm room and pull Jamie fully back into my arms.
*"You did good, sweetheart.* I'm sure they'll get everything figured out and find out who has been after you and the other girls. Then you can finally move on without having to look over your shoulder anymore," I whisper.
"Thanks for always being so supportive, Wes," she sighs, rubbing her face into my chest. *It feels so nice.*
"That's what boyfriends are for," I joke. "Why don't you go get ready. It's almost time for your class," I say, kissing the top of her head. I really wish we could skip, but we can't.
Twenty minutes later, Jamie and I are outside her class when I hear the first whispering's of what's been going on at Sunny Days and the fact that Ashlyn is missing.
A chill runs through my heart. *Her's was the first mannequin... And now there is one of Jamie.*
