Chapter 48

Samuel didn’t want to answer him on that one, but he was right. If the dark dwellers surrendered to the white dwellers then it would be over for everyone. But hell, he didn’t care; he was tired of this game.

Ivy listened to the fighting; it was dying down, so she knew it was almost time for her to die. She didn’t want to, but she wasn’t going to have a choice in the matter.

“Quinn?” she whispered, hoping he was still alive.

“I’m still alive, are you okay?”

“I’m dying slowly still but something is coming, and I don’t know what it is.” She said wanting to touch him, but he was too far away, and she knew the magic wouldn’t allow her to reach him. “I don’t want you to die.”

“I know baby girl, but at least I get to be near you when the end happens, I am sorry with the way I was with you, things should have been different, and I was a selfish bastard.” He whispered. “Please don’t hate me with the way I was.”

“I don’t, I regret what happened.” She said closing her eyes. “Just remember I wished things were different now.”

Ivy didn’t say anything as the fighting started to go quiet and she faded into silence again. She was motionless—another dream, another memory.

“Hey Ivy, how are you?” a guy spoke. “Remember me?”

“No, not really?” she said nervously.

“Evan.” He smiled. “We have a history together. We have art?”

“Oh yeah, the guy that always watches me. Hi.” She said giggling.

“Yeah sorry, I don’t mean to be a creep. It’s just you remind me of someone special, I don’t mean to be weird or anything.” He said sitting down next to her. “So, you’re new here?”

“Yeah parents moved us here about two weeks ago; I am hoping to stay invisible.”

“I’m about to move again, sadly.”

“When?”

“Tomorrow. So, I guess this will be the last time I’ll be creepy Evan.” He laughed.

Ivy opened her eyes, still in the circle, and that was the last time she’d seen Evan. Tears formed in her eyes when she realized Evan her son has been protecting her and watching over her throughout her life. He was the one that was calling out to her; he was the one that was coming. Soon he would be there, she had to stay alive.

“Evan!” she yelled!

“What?” Elder John said looking at her. “Who, what are you talking about?” he said walking over to her.

“He’s coming, he’s coming for me.” She said sitting up.

“I told you, your son is an infant he cannot save you.”

“He’s coming from the future, you moron,” Ivy growled. “I just need to remember how to tap into my powers to bring him here.” She said looking down at her hands; she couldn’t remember how to use her powers. The vision from her as a little girl she knew how to then, but she didn’t use them since that day.

“Why Evan why did you bind my powers?” she said with tears forming in her eyes.

“He bound them so you were safe, but now that you are powerless and just a human, now you are dying, and you cannot even protect yourself.” John laughed. “Pathetic.”

“You’re going to regret that when I figure out how to get out of here, and then you die.” Ivy growled.”

“You need to figure that out first.” He laughed again. “We can do this all night, but since you said the white dwellers are coming, I am sure we are not going to have all night.” He said rolling his eyes. “So, I am giving you about ten minutes before I cut your throat.” He said summoning his dagger.

Ivy tried standing, but she was dizzy again. “Come on Evan show me what I am missing.” She said looking at her hands. She tried to remember if he told her anything about her powers and how to summon them, but nothing came to mind.

She thought about him and him coming there, she wanted him to be prepared with what he was going to be facing, and she figured he knew what he was coming to. He had to know since he was from the future. She was happy to know he was strong and was able to travel to the past, so something along the way got into the dwellers, which made her sad, but she understood. She protected him for as long as she could. She knew her death would be accepted. She just hoped he would live a happy life, and not have to fight dark dwellers the rest of his.

Closing her eyes, she remembered words spoken when she was little she remembered them and repeated them. Her hands began to glow.

“No!” Elder John growled. “No this can’t be happening! You cannot bring him here!”

“I can,” Ivy said as the light circled her shattered the magic around her, the light forced John and everyone around her away from her. She fell weakened by the last of her magic. John got to his feet, rubbing his eyes trying to see what happened.

“Hey, asshole!” Evan growled throwing a punch knocking Elder John away from Ivy.

Elder John recovered from the punch, “and who might you be, your energy is strong.” He said adjusting his stance. He was able to glance at Ivy she was unconscious.

“I am Evan, her son the one she warned you about.” He growled stepping over Ivy, protecting her. “I’ve come back from the future to prevent her from dying. You evil selfish demon.”

“Ah, so we don’t ever find you.” He mused. “So what if I kill you now then it changes your future.” He said summoning magic.

“Wrong.” He growled summoning his magic hitting Elder John with it. “They sought me out when I was eighteen and told me all about what you did to her, and how you tortured her for years, how you sexually abused her!” he growled punching and kicking him, stomping on his hand shattering the bones. “I came to repay you.” He growled again picking John up by his throat. “The only difference is I’m not waiting years to kill you.” He said throwing him to the ground. “You die now!”

John tried to recover, but Evan was too strong for this, he wasn’t expecting this dweller to be like this. He thought he wouldn’t be well trained coming at him. Elder John thought all the years of training he had would be enough to take on any white dwellers. “Wait, I only wanted her powers; I didn’t want to do this. Your grandfather told me this was the only way.” Elder John begged.

“Save it, I saw the visions, I know the past. You cannot compare what I know. You lying devil.” He said punching him several times, he was beyond pissed. “My mother wanted my future to be safe without this, she got her to wish, but when she disappeared and was forced to dwell in the shadows and was forced to do your bidding and you caused her to do things. Unnatural things I felt it, I felt her pain.” He said breaking bone in his face. “Things I couldn’t explain, pain, suffering. She cried out to me, I thought I was going crazy.” He said looking down at the frail man that he was ripping to pieces. “I protected her, but the unbalance I was doing to her world to her present I had to leave, and when I did you forced her into this world of darkness.”

“Please, Evan, spare me. I promise I will not seek her again.” He begged with his hands. “I will run and stay in my realm, never to step foot near white dwellers again.” He sobbed.

Evan was out for blood; he wasn’t letting his life. He grabbed the defenseless man, and ripped his heart out, Elder Jack died. Evan tossed his heart aside, turning towards where Ivy laid. He picked her up, she was barely alive.

“Mom?” he whispered. “I killed him, please open your eyes, you have to live. The white dwellers are coming, please just hold on.” He said touching her face. “I am sorry it took me so long to come.” He sobbed.

Ivy opened her eyes and met his for a moment. “My son you are beautiful, thank you for saving me.” She whispered before she closed them she died, her body turned to dust as the white dwellers appeared, the breeze carried her ashes away.

“I, I don’t understand I came back to stop this?” Evan cried.

“You came back to ensure he died,” Nick said kneeling. “You did that.” He said looking at Evan. “Go back to the future, you will face another darkness, your mother will seek you again, she is only gone now, but her soul still plagues this world, new darkness as awakened. You’ve only killed one; there are others more sinister than his. Go now you are who they seek, and they will not stop until they have you.”
