Chapter 48 VOL II: Lies and Secrets(2)
VOL II: Lies and Secrets(2)

WRITER’S POV

“So, what you're saying is, you wish to have your nephew dead?”

“Exactly. He's of no use to us now, since he doesn't want to go through with the prophecy. I actually had a hunch that he would overpower Razael, but I still had to send him a little push, which actually did nothing.

“Your Highness, what are you doing?” Stefano struggled to free himself, but it was useless; Riccardo was ten times stronger than he ever was.

“What is your objective coming to Vacuità?”

Stefano's eyes widened. “What are you talking about, sire? He came to see you after you were hurt, but—”

Riccardo didn't spare Harry a glance.

“I'll ask one more time, and if you answer incorrectly, I'll snap your neck.”

Everyone could tell he was dead serious. Harry couldn't understand why Riccardo was behaving like this.

“I... I... came to kill you!” Stefano breathed.

“I sent my son to Vacuità to try to turn his beliefs towards following the prophecy, and if it doesn't work, he was to kill him. But apparently, he didn't.” He scoffed. “That wimp.”

“Why have you come here?” Massimo asked. He could tell that Alberto was up to something.

“To ask you to join us. We can kill him together, and we'll need someone of your power.”

Massimo shook his head. “I can't help you. My powers are sealed until after a year.”

“A year? Why would you do such a thing?”

Alberto sighed, then facepalmed himself. “Look, if we don't take care of Riccardo, he—”

“Is it only Riccardo you wish to kill?”

Alberto was taken aback. “What do you mean?”

“You know exactly what I mean.”

Massimo's eyes narrowed, and his hand was on Alberto's shoulder. He squeezed tightly. The other hooded figures readied their stance to fight, but Alberto waved his hand.

“Smart as ever, I see,” he chuckled. “We actually wanted to kill the Golden Witch, but she's become impossible to catch. She's repelling us somehow.”

Massimo's eyes twitched. Alberto didn't know that Luana was his daughter.

“Get out, and don't return to the human realm again.”

“Are you chasing me away? Don't you want him dead? Or have you changed your mind and have a soft spot for us demons?”

Massimo chuckled before it became a full-blown laugh. “Oh, the hate is still there. I'm just not in the mood to deal with you guys now, which is why...” He bent down to whisper something in Alberto's ear. “You should leave now. Because if my mind changes and I suddenly want to deal with you demons, your numbers will reduce by half.” He snorted.

Alberto immediately stepped back. This was not the first time that Massimo had locked his powers.

But even with them gone, he was still powerful, for fragments of his power still floated around in various forms—the wind, air, darkness, shadows.

Alberto didn't know this, but he knew that the reason the demon population had decreased greatly was because of him. So, he knew he was dead serious.

He raised his hand. “We'll leave you alone, Supreme Lord, until we meet again.”

And with the click of his finger, they disappeared.

Riccardo dropped Stefano to the ground with a huge thud. Harry couldn't believe his ears.

“Tell me it's not true.”

“Harry... I...”

“Tell me it's not true, Stef.” Tears welled up in Harry's eyes.

Stefano got up from the ground, coughing hard. “It's true. I had come here to kill Ric, but I went—I never wanted to go through with it. I would never!”

“Who sent you?” Harry asked.

“It was my father. He had a feeling Riccardo wouldn't want to go through with the prophecy, so he sent me here to convince him, and if he still didn't see reason, I was to kill him. But I couldn't. Ric is my brother. I would never do that! Harry, you believe me, right?”

Stefano looked at Harry eagerly, waiting for a positive reply. But Harry looked away, much to the surprise of Stefano.

“You... you don't believe me? You think I tried to kill my own brother? Tell me, Harry! Tell me!”

Harry looked confused and conflicted.

“Ric... I would never! I never acted on the order. You have to believe me!”

The cold expression never left Riccardo's face. It was as if he was seeing something they weren't.

He immediately dismissed the place they were in with the click of his fingers. Now they were in a village, surrounded by people moving around. He had a shirt on now and was dressed like a commoner; so were Harry and Stefano. That was the extent of his new power. They were in the capital city of Calma.

“Leave. And let me not set my eyes on you again.”
