Chapter 114 Witches
Chapter 114 Witches
Dorian's schedule was so packed, so long as she came to most of the games, at least the really important ones, the Society wouldn't care, either.
"I expected a better greeting," she purred. "It's been years and that's what you have to say?"
"When an uninvited and unwelcome person shows up, do you roll out the welcome wagon or call security?"
She laughed. "I'm your marriage candidate, Dorian. I'm hardly unwelcome."
"I disagree."
"I know your handler told you I was coming back soon. Let's not play coy."
She clenched the keys in her hand and sauntered forward. His gaze dropped to the eight inch masterpieces she'd picked up on his father's card earlier at the boutique. They were as special kind of sexy.
"If you're going to invade my house--and for the record I'd prefer you didn't--at least take off your fucking shoes." He sucked on his teeth. "I'm billing you for my fucking flooring."
"My legs look better in them, and I don't plan to be on my feet for long. You'd better hurry up with that if you care so much about your precious floors..." She swept her gaze over him. "And don't bother telling me you don't want me. You and I both know that's a lie." She sauntered over, taking a seat at his bar and crossing her arms, tilting her head just so. "Why don't you come over here and see what I picked up overseas?"
He scoffed and reached over the couch, grabbing his phone and the blanket there, an ugly green thing. Was it the same one he'd had since high school? She'd be getting rid of that ugly thing at first chance. Honestly, there was a lot more work to be done on Dorian than she first thought.
Dorian folded the blanket and set it in the corner. A moment later, he crossed the room, just as she expected. She bit her lip waiting for the hard grip of his hands on her hips, in her hair, squeezing her breasts.
He walked around her toward the front door. She blinked and turned back seeing him already opening it.
"Don't be here when I get back or I'll have you arrested."
She laughed. "You really think that's going to scare me? You wouldn't dare."
He pulled his phone out and glared back at her.
"Don't touch my shit." He grabbed his own keys, slipped into the slides by the door. "And get out before my sister gets back."
He left. She tutted, not what she expected, but... an interesting development. Was he still upset? Jealous? She could work with that. Jealousy was so close to obsession. All he needed was a little push to the other side.
After, she'd dealt with Becca. Was Becca really here? Arriving soon? Wasn't she fucking off across the ocean shivering in some miserable little cabin in the Russian tundra like an idiot? She glanced around and shrugged. She may as well get started. She grabbed the blanket and shook it out, grimacing. It was the same blanket of the random blue planet on a ugly green background. She tossed it in the trashcan and swept her gaze around the room.
The neutral palette that should have been there had been corrupted. She shouldn't have trusted Heather or the handlers who were supposed to be keeping a close eye on him. What the hell was that painting on the wall? And an ugly tower thing that looked like a tree.
Must be that girl she'd been told about.
She pulled out her phone, took a photo and texted her group chat.
Amber: It's a fucking disaster. What the hell is this thing?
Eva: LOL. Never say no to a shopping trip.
Olivia: It's hideous. Maybe it's Becca's though? You know she's weird.
So Becca was here. He wasn't just bluffing. That could be a problem. The little bitch had never liked her. She doubted that would change. She turned from the stupid shelf and called them on three-way.
"She's living with him now? How long has that been going on?"
"Probably. She's back on the island at Aegis," Eva scoffed. "Don't worry. Just tell him how it's going to be and send her back to their parents. There can't be two queens of the castle, and you're going to be the next Mrs. Knox. She'll get over it, and no one wants their little sister cockblocking them."
"He still had that stupid blanket, you know?"
Olivia laughed. "Sounds like you've got plenty of work to keep you busy. Should we come over?"
"Yeah. I'm going to need some extra eyes on this mess."
She went to the kitchen and opened the cabinet, grimacing.
"I really hope these ugly ass glasses are hers..."
They were garishly colorful rather than the clean clear crystal she expected. The pitcher with them was even worse.
"Would it be so bad if you accidentally broke them all?"
Eva laughed.
Amber smiled and swiped one off the shelf and onto the floor. The crash that echoed through the kitchen made her laugh.
"Oops."
Eva laughed. "Save some for the rest of us! You won't believe how he treated me!"
Dorian got to Animkii's front door not feeling the coolness of the night, the sheen o f sweat turning his blood to ice, or the tightness in his chest. He keyed in his code and headed in. Animkii was already in the foyer, getting his shoes on, and his hair up with his phone to his ear.
"Thanks." Animkii hung up and waved Dorian inside. "Come in before you pass out"
Dorian's stomach plummeted, but he did, slipping off his shoes. Animkii put a tablet in his hand. He clenched his hands around it, letting the edges dig into his palms to steady him.
He needed to breathe. Need to think, but his thoughts rushed and scrambled, scattering in a million different directions. Amber poisonous smile flashed through his mind and his stomach heaved.
How had she just walked in?
"I need you to sit here, with this tablet. Is there anything in your house that is irreplaceable?"
He swallowed. "You think... she's going to destroy my shit?"
"I think you should answer the question."
"I... I shouldn't have let her stay there by herself. I should have--"
"Stop." Animkii put his hand on his shoulder. "You are not going to be in that villa alone with her right now. You're going to sit your ass on my couch and watch tape with Mason. I will handle your security problem. Answer the question."
"My..." He cleared his throat. "My glass set. In the cabinet. I haven't been putting it away, and... it was made for me. Eight glasses and a pitcher."
Animkii searched his face and cursed. Dorian stood, trembling in the hall. Memories washing through his mind. Stomach churning. Things he hadn't tried to forget but were too uncanny not to know now. It wasn't the first time someone affiliated with the Society had just... walked into where he was staying.
Fuck, he was going to have to sell his villa. He'd never feel safe there again.
