Chapter 33 Intoxicating Kiss
Chapter 33 Intoxicating Kiss
I was panting, my breathing heavy after I'd mopped almost the entire second floor. Although I wasn't finished yet, I was at least 80 percent done.
"I'm so tired, my back feels like it's going to break," I muttered, holding my aching back.
It turned out this house was much larger than I expected. Even when I expected it, it was still much larger. Looking at the floor I'd mopped, I felt proud of my efforts, even though this was only my first task before starting my work.
"Just a little more, I have to try!" I tried to encourage myself. But as I started swinging the mop again, I felt someone hug me from behind, startling me.
"You look beautiful in this!" He whispered right into my ear. I was startled and immediately turned around to confirm that the rude person who suddenly hugged me was Xavier.
I was stunned to see his face, which I hadn't seen in a while. Every time I see his face, I somehow feel his handsomeness increase manifold. Xavier has a strange charm, a charm that makes it impossible for anyone to ignore him for even a second.
"X-Xavier?" My eyes lit up when I saw him behind me, realizing how much I missed him.
Xavier smiled at me, his smile a little mischievous, but somehow I really liked it.
"You missed me, huh?" As usual, Xavier read my mind, and it seemed like this time he also noticed my longing for him.
"Yeah, a little," I replied. Even though I knew he already knew, being too honest with him would only irritate me.
"I think you should just be my personal maid, Layla!"
"If you're not home, then what are my duties?"
"You can relax and be my mistress and wait for me in the bedroom!" He said, reaching out once more and hugging me.
It felt comfortable. Xavier's scent and his warm embrace soothed me. I even forgot the tiredness I'd felt just minutes before his arrival.
"You really like me, huh?" Xavier teased me every time he knew what I was thinking.
"Because you found out before I even said it, I don't like you anymore!" I pushed him away in annoyance to stop him from hugging me. I had to get on with my pending work before Madam Minerva checked.
"You were assigned to mop the floor?"
"Yes, this is my first assignment, so I have to do it right!"
"If you find this too tiring, I'll ask Minerva to give you lighter work!"
"Is that really possible?"
"Why not? You're my girlfriend, so you have special privileges here."
Maybe Xavier is right that I might have special privileges here because I'm his girlfriend, even though he interprets our relationship as symbiotic, but whatever the nature of the relationship, I can still use Xavier to get me the easiest jobs.
"If that happens, I don't think I'll be well-liked here!"
"What are you saying?"
"The servants might not view me as an equal if they see you treating them preferentially; they might not like it."
"Why should you care whether they like your position or not?"
"N-not really, but if you're not with me, they're the ones who will be with me. That's why I'll try my best to maintain a good relationship with them, right?" I said confidently. Xavier stared at me for a moment with his beautiful eyes that seemed to penetrate my heart.
"I told you not to be too trusting and close to anyone here. I still want you to be careful."
"Is there something about them or—"
"You don't need to know that, and there's nothing you need to know right now. Me asking you to be careful doesn't mean there's danger. You just need to be careful, that's all! Do you understand?"
"Isn't that strange? You ask me to be careful, but you say there's no danger. Isn't that like asking me to bring an umbrella when there's no rain?"
"You're stupid, stubborn, aren't you? If you don't want to listen to me, that's up to you!" said Xavier, looking very annoyed because I kept contradicting him.
For some reason, he's so adorable when he's angry, it makes me want to pinch his cheeks.
"You're so cute." I giggled at his childish behavior. I hugged him before he could.
I wanted to tell Xavier that I missed him when he wasn't with me, and I just couldn't imagine how much I'd miss him when he wasn't here.
"Did I make you miss me so much?"
"Well, that's not fair, because it seems like I'm the only one missing you."
Xavier released my embrace and asked me to look at his face, which was far away from the corner of my eye. He was so tall, even when I tried to reach him.
"I never said I didn't miss you, did I?"
"But you—" Xavier stopped me by kissing me.
I loved this so much. I loved the touch of his lips, his kisses, and his scent. I loved everything about him.
"I miss you in my own way, Layla! And if I let you know that, it would be like telling you my weakness, and I don't want what's left of me in your grasp."
