Chapter 317
Blake’s POV:
1 carried Anna to the bedroom, laying her gently on the bed. Her skin burned against mine as I called the doctor.
“Yes, she’s running a fever,‘ I explained. “She had champagne last night, might have caught a
chill. I noticed how Anna flinched at my touch.
After hanging up, I made several calls – arranging for someone to fix the window I’d broken, scheduling cleaning, and ordering food.
“Drinking when your health is already compromised, 1 scolded. “You’re not allowed to drink that much anymore.”
‘I didn’t drink that much,‘ she protested weakly, tears welling in her eyes.
I wiped away a tear. “Get some rest. The doctor will be here soon.”
I loosened my tie and kicked off my shoes before sliding onto the bed beside her, wrapping my arms around her.
*If I had known this would happen,” I murmured, “I wouldn’t have let you go when you collapsed in my car last night. If I had stayed, you wouldn’t be suffering like this.”
Anna stiffened. “The fact that you even had such thoughts is inappropriate.”
“Move away,‘ she said with irritation. “I’m uncomfortable with you holding me.”
I released her and returned with a cool washcloth. When I tried to pull back her blanket, Anna clutched it tighter.
“Stop acting like I’m some thief,” I said firmly. “I saw your body last night.” I tugged the blanket away and began wiping her forehead.
Anna’s eyes darted down to her clothes – not the same ones she’d worn yesterday. Her face flushed an even deeper red from embarrassment.
‘Blake, how could you?” she began, her voice trembling. “Don’t you know we’re already-
“Yes, interrupted, deciding honesty was best. ‘I made a terrible mistake. Last night I wiped your face, cleaned your body, and changed your clothes. I don’t know how I managed to control myself, but you’re right – it was completely inappropriate.”
As the cloth moved to her neck, I felt my throat tighten watching a water bead trail down her collarbone.
help you cool down,” I said roughly.
I tugged at her nightgown collar, exposing more skin. I had to close my eyes, fighting for control.
“Blake!” Anna called weakly, pressing her hand against mine.
My breathing had become heavy. “Don’t move. I’m doing this for your own good. If you really don’t want me touching you, get better quickly.”
“I’ll do it myself!” she finally said, embarrassed.
I helped with her back, then retreated to the bathroom/to collect myself.
The doorbell rang. I answered it, leading the doctor to Anna. After giving an injection, the doctor hesitated.
“Mr. Wright, when a patient is ill, it’s best to refrain from certain activities. Sex should wait until full recovery.”
My expression darkened. “You think I’m that kind of animal?” I snapped, causing a hasty exit.
Alone with Anna again, I felt the tension between us. I fed her soup, sitting on the bed’s edge.
“I want water,” she said after a few bites.

I supported her head as she drank.
‘Get me a tissue… Close the curtains…”
I turned back after drawing the curtains. “You wouldn’t let me in earlier, and now you’re ordering me around? Anna, you are really bossy,”
She pretended not to hear, turning away.
I slipped in beside her, my arm over her waist, her back against my chest.
“Let me hold you,” I murmured. “I promise I won’t do anything. I’m tired too.”
She tried to sit up. “Then you sleep here. I need to call Daniel.”
“Don’t move, I commanded. “Stop trying to be strong. If you got out of bed now, how far would you make it?”
