Chapter 148
Anna’s POV:
Seth’s open palm slowly curled into a fist. His temper was boll over as he breathed heavily through his no
“Turn around and wait here. I need to handle something real quick! he growled.
I grabbed his hand. “Don’t go!”
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t take it anymore. He’s gone too far.”
“I know,” 1 cut him off. “It’s not worth it‘
To avoid looking pathetic, I put on a mask of indifference. “Those girls? I actually found them for him.”
Their laughter pierced my heart like knives. When I spoke again my voice carried a hint of desperation even I didn’t notice “Could you just take me away from here?”
Seth took a deep breath, finally suppressing his anger, He took my hand in his, flashing that roguish smile. “Sure thing. I’l take you anywhere you want to go!”
His gesture immediately triggered whistles and teasing from his environmental team members standing nearby.
ley, Seth! Finally scored a hot date? Aren’t you going to introduce us?” one called out.
Hey,
So that’s why the boss has been distracted lately! He’s got a love interest!” another shouted.
Only Samantha stood quietly, nodding politely in my direction. I smiled back, which only excited the guys more.
“Whoa, look at that smile! Price, you lucky bastard!”
Seth turned around. “Jesus Christ, can you guys shut up?” He casually draped his arm over my shoulder and whispered in my ear, “Anna, help me out here? Just pretend for a bit, or these idiots won’t let me work in peace for a month.”
Seth’s presence was like sunshine, dispersing the dark clouds that had been hanging over me all day. I couldn’t help but relax, my lips curving into a smile. “Fine, but don’t expect it to last. When they leam the truth, your office r tion will crash and burn.”
Seth winked like a kid who’d just pulled off a successful prank.
He led me toward his car, shaking his head nonchalantly. “Like give a damn! Get in
But just as I settled into the passenger seat, I spotted Blake approaching with a dark expression. He’d obviously heard the commotion, and his face was visibly souring by the second.
Seth quickly shut my door and positioned himself in front of it arms crossed, waiting for Blake’s arrival
Blake tilted his head slightly, catching a glimpse of me through the gap at Seth’s waist. His lips curved into a mocking smile. “Who’s in the car? New girlfriend? Your dad was just telling me the other day how none of those blind dates worked put, and he wanted my help.”

He patted Seth’s shoulder. Now that you’ve found someone you like, I can rest easy. Your father was pretty worried, you know.”
Seth shrugged off Blake’s hand, his eyes dangerously narrowing. So that’s why my dad suddenly got obsessed with my marriage prospects. It was you!”
Blake’s lips maintained that faint smile, but his eyes were fixed on me. “V You’re at that age, and as your friend, I couldn’t just stand by,”
“We’re
like family, so I’m just looking out for you.
He moved intimidatingly close to Seth and whispered, “But you need to understand which women you can pursue and which ones are off–limits.”
He patted Seth’s shoulder as if brushing off non–existent dust, then turned and walked away without looking back.
I watched Blake’s retreating figure, my eyes stinging. Seth slid to the driver’s seat, started the engine, and adjusted the rearview mirror while cursing, “Typical Blake Wright arrogance. Don’t listen to his bullshit. My dad did set up a bunch of blind dates, but I never went to a single one. They don’t understand that I’m more passionate about my career than meeting potential wives.”
I rubbed my temples as exhaustion washed over me. For a moment, I deeply envied Seth’s freedom and decisiveness.
If Blake had even half of Seth’s honesty and courage, if he could choose me be the happiest woman alive right now,

the same conviction as Seth does, I might
Seth turned to me with mischief in his eyes, but also with an unmistakable hint of seriousness. “Listen, Anna, I’m serious- when are you planning to divorce that asshole? Marry me instead. I promise I’ll treat you right. Plus, my dad will finally stop his weekly marriage lectures at Sunday dinners.”
“Seth! Are you crazy?” I tried to look stern.
Seth shrugged. “Just giving you options, Anna. You need to reclaim your freedom instead of being trapped in the Wright family’s golden cage.”
I sighed. The Price family, while not as powerful as the Wrights, was still among Boston’s elite. How could they possibly accept their second son marrying a divorced woman–and the ex–wife of their longtime family associate’s eldest son, no
less?
The very thought was explosive. Besides, they would absolutely refuse to let another romantic idealist emerge in their family.
Seth continued talking about his plans, but I couldn’t process a single word.
My mind kept replaying scenes from Elysium–those model–like girls surrounding Blake, their manicured hands resting on his shoulders and arms, while his signature cool smile appeared particularly distant under the neon lights.
“Hey, Anna? Are you listening?” Seth’s voice interrupted my thoughts.
I forced a smile. “Sorry, I’m just… a bit tired.”
Seth nodded, understanding flashing in his eyes. “Look, I know this is hard, but don’t let him occupy your every thought. That jerk doesn’t deserve it.”
Once we were on our way, 1 texted William that I’d completed my task of finding women for Blake. Whether Blake slept

with them or not, I’d done thy part.
William seemed pleased with my compliance and mentioned he’d send me a gift. I didn’t think much of it, assuming he meant the assets he’d previously promised.
never expected that after Seth dropped me off at my apartmen, William would release a public statement severing all ties with Claire. He was more ruthless and cold–blooded than I’d imagined.
The statement subtly revealed her past relationships with multiple male colleagues and her recent accusations against
Scarlett.
Looking at those words, I felt no joy. Perhaps because Blake wan’t the one who gave me this closure. Even William, bedridden with illness, could easily uncover these facts, while Blake had been playing dumb for so long.
The sound of the electronic lock beeping startled me.
Blake stormed in, his eyes red with fury. He glared at me sitting on the sofa with my phone and snarled, “Now I understand why you were so eager to follow my father’s orders. Everything makes sense now. Are you satisfied?”
I blinked, finally grasping that William hadn’t let me off the hook. He’d said it himself–other women might be fine, but not me, because he thought I couldn’t have kids.

Looking at Blake’s vicious expression, I couldn’t help but laugh softly. He must hate me now.
