Anna’s POV:
Blakk, who usually remained unfazed even in the face of crisis, visibly flinched.
His expression darkened, and his lips moved, but no words came out
Sometimes, silence speaks louder than any response.
“You should leave. You’ve pushed me to the edge already. What else I have to fear from you?” I said.
With tears still fresh on my face, I let out a bitter laugh. “Blake, haven’t you heard? People with nothing left to lose fear nothing.”
Blake stood frozen at my words, his body visibly trembling, his face darkening like storm clouds gathering. The silence between us felt heavier than any argument we’d ever had.
I stepped forward, forcing him to back out of the doorway. As he crossed the threshold, I moved to close the door, but he suddenly found his voice.
“Anna!” His tone was controlled yet strained. “I only have one sister! Why do you have to go after her?”
“I’m going after her?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Then I caught myself, anger flaring. “You know what? Yes! I am going after her! Blake, push me too far and I’ll fight back. I was willing to let her go, but you two kept pushing me. Everything she’s done -I have proof of all of it. Keep pushing me and see what happens. We can both go down together!”
My hand gripped the doorknob, trembling as I closed my eyes and summoned all my strength to shut the door. Despite throwing my entire body weight against it, I couldn’t overcome Blake’s hand holding it open.
“Is there really no one you care about anymore?” he asked quietly.
Then he released his grip. The door slammed shut with a crash that made my heart jump. Outside, his footsteps gradually faded
away.
I slid down against the door, my body suddenly drained. My brain raced, analyzing his last words, wondering who he might use against me next.
For the next three days, I called Emily daily, checking on the situation at EcoMarine Group and asking about her parents. I was terrified that Blake might go after them.
The thought of Emily’s parents–respected academics–having their reputation destroyed because of me was unbearable. I prayed Blake still had enough conscience not to target the elderly.
Each time, Emily assured me everything was fine.
By the third day, my body couldn’t take it anymore. The stress, the lack of sleep, the constant worry–it all caught up with me.
I developed a high fever, nearly 103 degrees. I remember Emily finding me, her voice panicked as she rushed me to the hospital.
The last thing I heard before everything went dark was her pleading Anna, don’t scare me like this…”
I wanted to reassure her, but I was too exhausted. These past days had been a nightmare of anxiety, constantly worrying about everyone connected to me.
Every time I thought of Blake, it felt like my energy and spirit were being drained away.

Chapter 134
Through the haze of fever, I felt Emily’s cool cloth on my forehead, pard her crying. Then her words cut through my delirium:
“Anna, you’re pregnant! Do you want to keep the baby? If not, I can ask the doctor to give you something right away…”
Pregnant? I had Blake’s child growing inside me? In my semi–conscious state, I didn’t know what our marriage meant anymore, or why I should have his child, but my arms instinctively moved under the blanket.
Emily seemed to understand. “Anna, we need to bring your fever down,” she whispered. Only then did she manage to pull my arm out to apply cooling alcohol to my palm and forearm.
In my dreams, I felt anxious. A child is a lifetime commitment. I fell fear, worry, complete uncertainty about the future. I had no sense of security, because the child’s father had already drained me of all the love I once had for him. Yet this baby felt like a gift, separate from Blake–a gift of life itself.
Two days later, I finally woke up. The doctor was giving Emily detailed instructions about my care. My mind was still foggy, but after listening for a while, I confirmed one thing: I was indeed pregnant with Blake’s child. Calculating backward, it must have happened during our honeymoon.
My voice was as rough as sandpaper when I asked, “Doctor, I was taking birth control pills for a long time before getting pregnant. Will that affect the baby?”
“Anna, you’re finally awake!” Emily noticed me speaking and turned, ears immediately flooding her eyes as she gripped my hand tightly. “God, you scared me so much. You’ve been asleep too long. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen her cry.
Before I could comfort her, the doctor interrupted. “Rest today. We’ll do a full examination tomorrow morning.”
I moved my stiff body, placing my palm on my still–flat stomach. Here, there was… a child. What now? When my husband thought I couldn’t have children and was planning IVF with another woman, I got pregnant naturally.
If I told him, what would his expression be? He’d be completely shocked, more surprised than if struck by lightning!
But I quickly abandoned that thought. After a moment of silence, I held Emily’s hand and instructed, “Don’t tell Blake about this!”
Emily’s voice nearly shattered the hospital room. “You’re planning to hide your pregnancy from him?!”
“I haven’t decided yet. Let me think about it,” I responded absently. When facing a major life change, you don’t feel joy–just complete bewilderment about the unknown path ahead.
The doctor frowned, looking me up and down. “You’re married, right? You’re weak now, and the pregnancy is unstable. If you’re staying for prenatal care, it’s best to have family here.”
“I am married,” I smiled faintly, “but possibly divorcing soon.”
The doctor’s expression immediately turned sympathetic, as if I were some pitiful creature. “Well, having your friend here is fine
too.”
While Emily took care of my extended stay paperwork, I checked my phone for updates.
Online, every time someone posted private photos of me, environmental activists from all over rallied to my defense.
This support wasn’t just Emily’s doing; my college classmates had organized it. I shot a quick message to our class group c their warm responses brought me some comfort.
I couldn’t understand why someone as ordinary as me was generating such sustained attention. As I pondered this, my phone suddenly vibrated–the screen showed Caroline’s name.
