Chapter 39 Preparing For War
Chapter 39 Preparing For War
The sound of the waves kept crashing against the rocks. I held Arthur close and walked slowly back up the stairs. My heart felt heavy. I sat down in the cozy chair in the corner of the room. The silence made me think deeply.
As I cradled Arthur in my arms, I tried to gather my thoughts. I had spent too long feeling like a victim. Now it was time to take control. It was time to be strong instead of being scared.
"We have to come up with a plan," I whispered to Arthur, who was laying peacefully in my arms.
After a few minutes, Edward walked into the room. He still looked disturbed, but he gave me a reassuring smile that warmed my heart.
"I spoke to Mark," he said, sitting down in a chair across from me. "He’s tightening security around the house and has already contacted the police. They will keep an eye on the house as well."
I nodded, staring at Arthur who had no idea what battles his parents were facing. I felt really worried. Even though he was so small and innocent, he gave me strength.
"What about Lily? We need to find out how she is tracking us," I said, my voice breaking.
"I’ll investigate every one of the staff," Edward said. "We need to know who is feeding her information about us."
"And then what?" I leaned forward, wanting to make sure he understood. "We need to keep ourselves safe."
Edward was quiet for a second then he said, "I won’t allow her to hurt you, Serena. Or Arthur."
"We can’t just stay here hiding," I insisted. "We should strike before she comes for us again. Find out where she is hiding and make her pay."
Edward took a deep breath. "You’re right. We’ll get some help. I’ll call my connections. They can give us more resources."
"And when
we find her?" I asked, my heart beating faster. The idea of facing Lily made my stomach turn, but I could not back down now.
"We'll expose her," he replied. "We have proof, remember? The USB drive has the names and locations of everyone involved in her operations."
"Good," I said. "Let’s use that to our advantage. We will bring down her empire."
Edward reached over and squeezed my hand, bringing me back to the moment. "You’re incredible, Serena. I’ll do everything I can to keep you both safe."
"So, what’s the first step?" I asked.
"We’ll gather information," Edward said, his mind filled with ideas. "Tonight, I’ll meet with some trusted contacts. They can help us track Lily’s movements."
"And I’ll stay here with Arthur?" I did not like the idea of staying home while the action happened outside, but I knew it might be necessary.
"Yes, for now. I want you to be safe," Edward insisted.
I stood up, still holding Arthur, and walked over to the window. The ocean was dark, the waves crashing with great force. The salt breeze blew through my hair. I had a strange but comforting feeling being by the sea.
"The ocean is beautiful but dangerous," I murmured to myself, thinking of how much it matched our situation. "Just like us."
Edward stepped beside me and looked out at the water. "With the right tools and knowledge, we can get through the storm."
I turned to him and gave him a smile and a kiss on his cheek. "And we will. Together."
As night fell, I could not sleep yet because my mind was too active.
Edward set up Arthur’s room. He arranged the baby monitor and made sure everything Arthur needed was close by and the room was safe. After checking on the nurses to make sure they were ready for the night, he sat down in the chair next to me. He looked exhausted.
"You need to rest," I told him. "You’ve been working non-stop."
"I can sleep later," Edward replied. "We need to focus on this right now."
I looked at him and appreciated his dedication, but I also knew he needed to rest for what was ahead. "You need to be at your best, Edward. This fight isn’t just yours. It involves both of us and Arthur."
He nodded and finally agreed. "Alright, just a short rest." He leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes for a moment.
I kept watching the waves as they rolled in and out. Each crash felt like a heartbeat. My own heartbeat was quick, filled with fear and determination.
"You’re strong, love," Edward murmured, his eyes fluttering open. "You’re going to help us win."
"I just want to protect our family," I said softly, feeling the weight of my words. "For Arthur."
The baby moved in my arms, and I gently rocked him back to sleep. I felt more determined than ever. If Lily thought she could play with our lives, she was wrong. I planned to end her game and stop the chaos she brought into our lives.
After I settled Arthur into his crib, I remembered something I had almost forgotten. Hope. Hope kept me steady. It reminded me why we were fighting. Edward and I were in this together, protected by love and strength.
As the night went by, I knew I had to stay alert. I wanted to make sure Arthur stayed safe, but I could not shake the feeling that something was coming. The storm of our lives was about to hit.
I joined Edward back in the bedroom; he was already half asleep on the bed. He looked so peaceful for a man carrying so much on his shoulders.
I gently crawled into bed and lay beside him, trying not to wake him up because he really needed to rest.
With our plan taking shape, I felt both excited and scared.
As I looked outside, I could see the first light of dawn over the horizon. The ocean was calm now, its beauty shining after the chaos.
"Today we fight," I murmured softly to myself, i kissed Edward goodnight and drifted into a peaceful sleep.
