Chapter 21 — Next Case

Mathias:

“Now that Lukan’s dead and the Institute is no longer a threat thanks to our new alpha werewolf friend, Traeger, we have to focus on the ritual murders.” I nod at Traeger, who is sitting to my left at the conference table, and Azazel and Mikhail are sitting to my right.

One of the Council witches raises her hand and produces a visual of all the evidence we compiled on the rituals.

“We have at least two girls who were stabbed through the heart by a sacred knife. According to the file, each girl was supernatural. Some of the evidence points to witches being the culprits, but all of the covens in the area deny being involved. However, some of the evidence we’ve gathered points to my former wife, Marael, being the culprit. I sent several scouts to search for her and hope that we’ll get results soon. For now, I need everyone on their toes. I don’t know what comes next, but whatever Marael has planned will not be pretty.”

Once the meeting is over, Mikhail, Azazel, and Traeger stop beside me.

“Is there anything specific that you need us to do, Mathias?” Mikhail asks.

I look at my daughter’s mate and shrug. “Right now, I want you to stay close to my daughter and protect her. I don’t know what Marael is planning, but whatever it is, I don’t want Nevaeh caught in the middle of it.”

Azazel clears his throat. “I asked some of my mates on the streets to keep an eye out for her. The question is, what do you want us to do if we find her. Because I have to be honest with you, mate; If that whore shows her face, I will wring her bloody neck.”

I don’t disagree with Azazel. I hate Marael as much as they do. I hate her for bespelling me into thinking I loved her, and I hate her for trying to destroy the woman that I love.

“You do what you must, Azazel. All I ask is that you interrogate her before you kill her.”

Azazel smirks. “I won’t make any promises.”

I look at Traeger, who has been sitting there without saying a word. “How are you settling into your new life?”

Traeger smiles, his eyes gleaming like liquid silver. “My pack is very happy where you placed them. Right now, they’re settling down in their homes. I’m glad that you bought the property around the Institute and let my people build their homes there. It might not have been a stable environment that we grew up in, but it’s home for most of us. I was also finally able to see my mate after being absent for so many months. Thank you.”

I shrug off his gratitude. “I meant what I said earlier. If it hadn’t been for your interference, we’d be fighting an endless war with the institute. I’m glad that you’re back with your mate. Cassia would have never forgiven me if I didn’t help you. She has become quite attached to Jelena.”

Traeger snickers. “Oh, yes, those two have become great friends.”

He extends his hand and shakes mine. “Call me if there is anything you need─no questions asked.”

“I will. Thank you, Traeger.”

He gives the others a congenial nod, then walks out the door.

The sound of melodic music reaches my ears as soon as I step into my apartment. Smiling, I glance around my home. Since Cassia and I got married, my life has changed so much. My once boring living room is now decorated with my wife’s beautiful art and other items she has placed lovingly around the room.

Placing my keys on a nearby bowl, I head to Cassia's studio. After we got married, I asked her aunt to create a studio for Cassia in our home. Needless to say, Cassia was delighted with my surprise.

The music grows louder as I get closer. Moving closer, inch the door open and smile at the sight of my beautiful mate. Her hair is in wild disarray around her shoulders, and her luscious body is scantily covered in a white, silken sheath.

She’s too busy painting away on one of her canvases to notice my presence until I slide my hand around her waist and pull her into my hard chest. At first, she stiffens, but as soon as she sees me, her body melts against mine. Her firm arm wraps behind my neck, and she tucks her head beneath my chin. She sighs contentedly as she absorbs my heat. “Hey, babe. How did your meeting go?”

I lay a kiss against her fragile neck and the shell of her ear. “It was fine. What are you painting?”

Cassia shrugs. “I’m just toiling until you get home. I missed you.”

She turns in my arms and wraps her arms around my waist. Our lips meet, and our bodies sway to the sound of the melodious music. Goosebumps course through my body as her hands sift through my hair and glide down my chest sensually.

I don’t hesitate to lift her in my arms and wrap her legs around my waist as I lead her to a nearby table. Somehow my shirt ends up on the floor next to her dress and panties. Gripping her thighs tightly, I slide into Cassia’s warm heat and pump inside of her. Cassia grips my shoulders tightly, small mewls escaping her lips as she attempts to reach her peak. “Mathias!” She cries out. Her body shudders, and her folds quiver around my shaft, milking me until we’re both climaxing together.

“I love you so much,” I whisper in her ear. “You saved me, my beauty.”

“I love you too,” Cassia replies huskily. “Now, take me to bed. I’m not done with you yet.”

Without another word, I carry my mate to our bedroom and make love to her all night.
