I love you 95
At this moment, she was both shocked and afraid, too late to think about how the fire started. Her mind was in chaos, and her last thought was of the child in her belly. She felt her heart and courage shattered, tears streaming down uncontrollably, but soon they were dried up by the flames.
As the fire grew bigger and bigger, she felt surrounded and trapped in the inferno. Despair engulfed her, and even though she covered her nose and mouth with a wet cloth, she knew she couldn't hold out for long in the intense heat. Looking at the piled blankets on the kang and thinking of the flesh and blood in her womb, Selena gritted her teeth. She was determined to fight, either to burn to death or to escape alive with her child.
Just as she took a few steps back, preparing to close her eyes and charge forward, the door suddenly burst open with a loud bang, as if someone had kicked it from outside. A figure rushed in.
The comer was none other than Lucio, who had been too busy to come home for dinner tonight. Without caring about the details, he saw the pitiful figure huddled under the blankets and his clenched fist relaxed slightly. The situation wasn't as bad as he had imagined, which should be a relief, but his mood was far from good. He even rudely shouted the woman nearby by her name: "Selena, what are you still doing there? Come over here..."
Clearly overwhelmed with nervousness, Selena's mind was sharp, but her body couldn't keep up. Even her feet felt weak, and she nearly stumbled when she tripped over the blanket. Just as she was about to get up, she heard a sudden crack from above that she had been ignoring. Then, as if in slow motion, she saw the man's face change drastically as he rushed toward her at an unimaginable speed.
In the next moment, his hand violently yanked her outward, causing her back to slam against the ground. The impact left her back and head throbbing with pain, almost causing her to black out. At the same time, she felt something heavy pressing down on her, and she heard the man grunt in pain as he strained his body. His hand, stained with blood, covered her eyes forcefully. It felt like a fleeting yet endless moment until she managed to push his hand away and her vision returned to normal, causing her to let out a startled cry.
A large piece of wood had fallen directly onto the man's back. It wasn't just a lightweight branch; it was a solid wooden beam thicker than a human thigh, engulfed in flames. The combined weight and heat quickly emitted a nauseating smell of burning flesh, causing Selena to gag and retch, though nothing came out.
The man, now close enough for Selena to see his slightly convulsing face, no longer wore his usual expressionless and cold demeanor. Selena seemed to forget to blink, her eyes wide with tears streaming down her cheeks, blending into one another. She didn't know why she was crying; it was something she couldn't control in that moment. Finally, after a moment of hesitation, she managed to speak, her voice coming out as a hoarse whisper, "Lucio.."
If this man hadn't rushed over to help her block that blow, she would probably have been smashed to death on the spot, and there would have been no chance of survival.
Regardless of whether one is poor or wealthy, people are generally selfish. This applies to herself as well. The only thing in this life that could make her sacrifice herself is probably her most persistent child. But this man was willing to sacrifice his life for her!
Seeing Selena crying uncontrollably because she was worried about him and wanting to check his wounds, Lucio felt satisfied.
Since childhood, he had known that he was destined to be alone, with no one to rely on. His character was very much like his father's, solitary and eccentric. He was not one to easily accept women, but once he accepted someone, he would never change. Even if that person died, he would never allow another person to enter his heart and influence him.
Therefore, someone like him might be best suited to live a lonely life and die alone, not harming others. It was because of this that his father had arranged a marriage for him early on, a marriage that was calculated based on fate, to resolve his lonely fate. It was both fortunate and unfortunate that when he was still young and didn't understand his weaknesses completely, someone had easily left a mark on his heart.
As Selena smelled the scent of burning flesh, he laughed softly in the flames, holding a piece of cloth soaked in blood in one hand. He struggled to cover her nose with it and whispered, "Selena, I love you, I've always loved you."
Lucio endured the pain in his back and kicked the door open, carrying Selena outside. The yard was bustling with activity, and there were stains of water everywhere. Thomas promptly instructed the servants to remove all flammable items, and the fires around had already been extinguished, except for Selena's room, which was the most severely burnt.
Seeing Lucio emerge unharmed from the blaze with Selena in his arms relieved everyone.
When Selena woke up, she found herself lying in her own bed at home. Upon opening her eyes, she saw her parents, Maria and Jose, by her bedside. She quickly inquired about Lucio's condition and felt relieved to learn that he only suffered burns on his back.
"Where's Lucio, is my baby alright?" Selena asked in a hoarse voice.
"You've been asleep for a whole day, but finally awake. The baby is fine!" Maria said happily, gently stroking Selena's hair.
“Lucio had his back treated with medicine, and yesterday he stayed with you all day. Today, he said he caught the arsonist and went to investigate the cause of the fire in your room. Yesterday, a neighbor saw a poorly dressed woman lurking near our back door in the evening. After rescuing you, Lucio had the steward inform his friend Hector to investigate. He caught the culprit in no time,” Jose said, holding Andres at the bedside.
Just then, Thomas rushed in, "Sir, Madam, the arsonist has been caught. The culprit is Tasilla. Mr. Simeone instructed the police department to sentence her to slavery and send her to the extremely cold northern region."
Before Thomas could finish his words, he saw someone rushing over from outside the door. Lucio walked towards Selena as if there were no other people in the world besides her.
"Selena," his voice was deep and hoarse. Maria also stood up hastily when she saw Lucio, giving up her seat for him. Lucio sat down and took Selena's hand.
Selena looked at Lucio's scruffy and weather-beaten face, wanting to touch his face. Lucio lowered his head, allowing Selena to touch it effortlessly. Selena's hand gently caressed Lucio's cheek, her eyes filled with tears as she asked, "Does your back hurt?"
Slowly sitting up, she gently kissed Lucio's cheek, feeling the stubble on his face with her lips. She leaned closer to Lucio's ear, her voice gentle yet husky as she said firmly, "Lucio, I love you too, and I will always love you."
In response to Selena's words, Lucio kissed her forcefully. After Selena finished speaking, Lucio hesitated for a moment, then held Selena's head in his hands. Like a wild beast, he passionately kissed Selena, licking and sucking on her tongue, it seemed like he wanted to suck away Selena's soul.
