Chapter Thirty-Seven
“Elijah, so glad you were able to assist me with those graphs and contract changes Trenton wanted stat.” Kennedi laughed lightly. “This entire week he’s called from Macau wanting revision after revision to the data.”
Elijah handed off a cup of coffee and sat next to her on the office couch. “It’s typical with these deals. Investors like to add, delete and tweak the language and the numbers at the last minute.”
“It’s two forty in the afternoon, which means it’s the a.m. there. Trenton should be sleeping, not working.”
“I’ve worked for him for six years and wondered if he ever slept.” Elijah relaxed back against the couch and took a sip of his coffee. “I actually admire him. For a CEO, he doesn’t just sit behind a desk barking out orders. He’s down in the trenches, pulling his weight. Gotta respect that.”
Love for Trenton fluttered around Kennedi’s heart. But her relationship with him remained a secret to the staff and she did her best not to let her feelings show. “You’ve really made a huge impact here at Chase, especially while Trenton’s been away these past weeks. I recognize you’ve been putting in a lot of hours. It’s appreciated, but I don’t want you to get burned out. With the HR manager due to start next week, you should take a day off.”
“My wife would appreciate that. She wanted to invite you out to dinner with us tonight. I know it’s short notice.”
“I’d like that, but my girlfriends and I are having dinner out tonight to celebrate us getting our new store location at Shaw Hotel and Casino.” Kennedy closed out the file on her laptop and stuck the MacBook Air in her handbag. Coming to her feet, she checked her watch again. “I have an appointment, and then I have to head over to the confectionary. We’re finishing the decorations on the cake for the ground-breaking ceremony party on Friday.”
She’d been splitting her time for the past three weeks between the office, visiting her father, and the store. With Trenton returning tomorrow, she also needed to squeeze in a run to the market. She’d promised him dinner.
“You’re one busy woman. Rain check on dinner. If there’s anything I can do to help, let me know.”
“Thanks.”
