Chapter 95: Who Are You?
Chapter 95: Who Are You?
Cattleya’s POV
"What the hell are you doing?" Jaxon asked, his voice laced with confusion after he finally turned off the phone. He stared at me, his eyes narrowed as if I had committed a crime.
"What? I'm just going to show you there's a spider on the bed…" I said, gesturing towards the bed with a casual wave. "Two spiders, actually."
He looked at me with a mixture of confusion and amusement. "Then why did you sound like you were seducing me to come into bed?"
"Because I wanted to show you something!" I exclaimed, pointing a finger at the two spiders as they scurried across the sheets. I grabbed a tissue from the nightstand and swiftly scooped up the larger of the two. Jaxon's eyes widened in surprise.
"Aren't you supposed to be scared of spiders?" he asked with a wide mouth.
“No, I’m not scared of spiders.”
Suddenly, his phone rang. He answered immediately, "Yes, I'll be downstairs." He slipped the phone back into his pocket and turned to me, his gaze hardening. "You, you stay here. I'm not done with you yet, and no, you can't be downstairs. You don't know what they can do to a woman like you."
I stepped forward, my hand instinctively reaching out to touch his chest. "How about you? Why haven't you killed me yet?"
He stared at me, his gaze intense, his face mere inches from mine. I instinctively backed away because I was dangerously close to forgetting my mission; maybe I might kiss him at any second!
"Stay here," he repeated, his voice low and dangerous. He turned and locked the door behind him, leaving me alone.
"Well, I don't care about his meeting with any people downstairs," I said, a cruel smile playing on my lips. "I only care about Elise's feelings now. Did it actually hurt? Did it hurt when she found out that I'm with Jaxon now? Well, this is just the beginning. I'm going to make her cry blood in the end."
I turn on my phone and click Elise's number.
"Oh, that's so fast!" I said, a mischievous glint in my eye as I connected the call.
"You, bitch! If I ever see you again, you'll never see another sunrise again! I'm gonna make sure of that!" Elise screamed into the phone.
I opened the window and gently released the spiders into the night. "Just like spiders," I murmured, watching them scurry away, "it takes time for them to build their own web. You might be reminded of your own ability to create and shape your reality."
"What the hell are you talking about?!"
I can imagine her tomato face right now.
I smiled happily, "You don't understand anything because you're stupid." And with that, I heard her scream again, a raw, animalistic sound of pure rage.
I calmly ended the call, a satisfied smile playing on my lips. I realized I had gotten under her skin, which was only the beginning.
Three hours later,
I woke up to a weird silence; It felt as if everyone had already left. So, I crept out of the room, my eyes squeezed shut against the inky darkness because I couldn't see a thing.
Suddenly, I bumped into something solid, the impact jolting me awake. And to my surprise, I lost my balance, teetering on the edge of the stairs.
Just as I was about to tumble down, a strong arm snaked around my waist, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest.
I gasped, my eyes widening as his lips brushed against my cheek.
Even in the darkness, I knew it was him. He pulled me closer, his gaze intense as he switched on the lights.
His eyes, a startling shade of blue, scanned my face, lingering on my lips. "What are you doing at this hour?" he asked, his voice a low growl.
“Nothing.” I answered quietly.
“You’re hiding something,” he said.
“Yes, I am.” I replied confidently.
"Anyway, I'm going back to my place tomorrow—"
I cut him off abruptly, "And I'm coming with you."
He frowned, "No, you can't come with me. You're a stranger. I know you have this silly mission to spy on me, but I won't let you. So, I'm giving you a second chance. Go back to your old life and live a normal, happy life with your family."
I shook my head stubbornly, "I don't have a family anymore. They all think I'm dead. That's why I'm here with you. Because you need to know something. You need to remember what happened three years ago. I'm the key to unlocking your memories..."
He stepped forward, "What? You know what happened?"
"Yes, because it's all a lie. Everyone around you is new to me. I don't know them. They've fired everyone who knew you before the accident. And they're working for someone, someone powerful who can eliminate me in a second if you don't protect me." I poured my heart out, desperate for him to understand. I just hoped he would see the truth, see the danger, and let me into his life.
His forehead creased as he stared deeply into my hoping eyes. He held my gaze for what felt like an eternity, then finally said, "Okay, if they are trying to keep a secret from me, and I have amnesia for three years, it states the fact that I know you before?"
"Yes..." I breathed, my heart pounding against my ribs.
He stepped closer, his breath warm against my face. "Then who are you to me? Who are you?" he whispered.
I shook my head, swallowing nervously. "It doesn't matter who I was to you. What matters right now is that you have to remember everything... including those who betrayed you."
"But why can't you just tell me a name? Just name a name."
"No, you are going to do what I say, Jaxon. Remember, I'm the key to your old memories," I insisted, my voice firm.
He smirked, "Are you blackmailing me? Look, this is kinda confusing me…"
"Yes, I am," I admitted, then I stepped back. He was too close and his intensity unnerving me!
"So, what happens if I take you with me tomorrow? Do you want me to keep you a secret so I can protect you?" he asked in a low voice, his gaze so intense that it made me gulp. "If yes, be ready because you're going to sleep in my secret room. And one last question, are you willing to continue helping me?"
