Chapter32 The Consequences of Crossing Me
Huh?
Linnea instinctively stepped forward, staring intently at Caius.
He definitely saw her.
But he still showed no reaction. The elevator arrived, and he got on first, with the others following close behind. Linnea was pushed to the back. When it was her turn, the elevator sounded an overload warning.
Linnea had to step off. Through the crowd, she locked eyes with Caius at the back of the elevator.
Cold as an iceberg! The worst kind of guy, turning cold right after getting out of bed!
Ignoring her?
Fine. Ha... She'd like to see how long Caius's overly eager penis could hold out!
If he didn't come begging this time, even if that thing burst, she wouldn't give him the time of day!
Linnea swallowed her anger, but work still had to get done.
To focus her mind, she went to the break room to make herself a cup of coffee. The caffeine gave her just enough energy to continue working.
But as she was about to leave, several assistants walked in. They were the same ones who had waited for the elevator with her that morning. They huddled together, whispering with mocking expressions on their faces.
Linnea quickly ducked into the small kitchen area.
"Boss finally put Linnea in her place today! So satisfying!"
"Ha, I've been saying all along that Caius doesn't care about her. She's just some ordinary poor girl with no class. How could she possibly measure up?"
"When she pushed Amy out, did she actually think she won?"
"An intern secretary who slept her way to the top, actually thinking she could become Mrs. Thorne? Too bad. Caius only sees her as a whore. Once he's done screwing her, he'll just toss her aside!"
It wasn't exactly a secret in the company that Caius had personally arranged Linnea's transfer.
She didn't think she'd done anything wrong.
Her promotion from intern secretary to official assistant wasn't even something she'd asked for. Caius had given her that "hush money" on his own initiative. And after her transfer, no other secretary or assistant had lost their position because of her.
As for Amy, Caius had fired her himself. How could that be blamed on Linnea?
And these people who were jealous of her... they were going to pay for it!
Linnea opened her phone camera.
Only after everyone left did she come out and return to her workstation.
"Linnea, you need to get this document stamped."
Linnea looked up. It was Anna, the assistant who had called her a "whore." She glanced at the document. "This isn't my project. I don't have time."
"Not going?" Anna sneered. "But that's an order from Chief Secretary Emily. Linnea, you dare disobey your supervisor's orders?"
Linnea was fed up. She held out her hand. "Fine. Give it to me."
Anna thought she had backed down, her smile stretching from ear to ear.
"That's more like it..."
The moment the document touched Linnea's hand, she snatched it and tore it to shreds. A stack of documents turned into snowflakes, which she threw forcefully into the air, scattering them all over the desks of the gossiping assistants.
"You...!"
This caught everyone off guard. They scrambled to shake the paper scraps out of their hair.
Anna was so angry her eyes went wide. "Linnea, you're disrupting the work order! This is completely outrageous! I'm going to have the chief secretary deal with you..."
Linnea's face showed no emotion.
Of course she wasn't scared.
If their so-called chief secretary was also this unprofessional, then it wasn't her problem to worry about. Caius would clean up his company's work environment.
But at the mention of the chief secretary, everyone smiled victoriously again.
Anna stood up, leaning forward to face Linnea directly. "Linnea, I'm giving you one last chance. If you don't apologize to us, I guarantee you're going to lose badly."
"Whose idea is this?"
"Our chief secretary's, of course."
Is this a threat? Linnea couldn't help but laugh.
Under everyone's wary gaze, she lowered her head, seeming to hesitate. When she looked up again, she showed a hint of helplessness. "How do you want me to apologize?"
Everyone laughed with satisfaction.
"Linnea, as a new employee, that's the right attitude."
They started discussing among themselves.
"Everyone, Linnea's asking how she should apologize!"
"We're all colleagues here. Sure, we could let it go, but she's offended Miss Emily's dignity!"
Emily was the chief secretary's name.
"Right, offending Emily isn't something that can be easily forgiven!"
"What should we do? How about making her bring Emily a cup of scalding hot coffee? It has to be boiling hot. Emily loves her black coffee piping hot. It can't cool down even a bit!"
At this suggestion, laughter erupted like waves. "Hahaha... Isn't that going too far? Getting coffee splashed on your face could leave scars, right?"
"Last time, that intern who broke Emily's coffee mug had to personally deliver coffee to Emily five times. She spilled it so many times her fingers got covered in blisters! Linnea, you better not be as clumsy as she was!"
Out of the corner of her eye, Linnea noticed one of the subordinates who frequently served Caius passing by the office door.
Well... Caius would soon know about her being bullied.
Though whether it was today or tomorrow depended on when he felt like listening to his subordinates report on matters concerning her. She guessed that right now, Caius wasn't in the mood anyway.
But that didn't matter. She could handle this little matter herself.
"Okay."
She interrupted all the chatter.
Anna narrowed her eyes at her. "What did you say..."
"I said yes."
She walked closer to Anna. "Emily's not here, Anna. How about you accept my 'apology' on her behalf?"
Anna instinctively took a step back.
"Anna, are you scared?"
"Why would I be scared of you?" Anna was provoked and stood her ground firmly.
The next second, Linnea rushed forward, kicking Anna's knee, then grabbed both her wrists. Amid screams, Anna fell to the ground in front of everyone.
Anna seemed to hear the sound of her kneecap cracking.
But it wasn't over yet.
"Slap!"
A prolonged ringing filled her ears. Linnea had slapped her across the face.
"Splash..."
Then half a cup of cold coffee was thrown in her face, instantly ruining her carefully applied makeup. Her hair became sticky and separated into clumps, plastered to the sides of her face. She looked like she'd just been pulled from a foul-smelling canal.
"Linnea, you bitch... Ah!"
Anna tried to fight back, but Linnea stepped on her calf with her high heel and delivered another slap. The screams became even more piercing. Anna was crying from the pain, sprawled in the mess on the floor in a humiliating position, her hair and body covered in dirty, wet paper scraps.
Everyone's faces went pale. In an instant, no one dared to speak.
Linnea... she was absolutely insane! She was trying to beat Anna to death!
And they had no way to report Linnea's crazy behavior to the company. They had no evidence. Whenever they planned to punish anyone in the office who crossed them, Emily would have the monitoring department temporarily disable the office surveillance.
They'd used this trick to drive out several people. But this time, it was their turn to get played.
Seeing their silence, Linnea walked up to Anna, lifted her chin, and smiled.
"Anna, when you stood up for them, did you ever think they'd betray you? You're an idiot."
Anna trembled. "Let go of me..."
She chuckled, released Anna, and looked around at everyone.
"Ladies, please don't misunderstand. Of course I wouldn't do anything too bloody in this office. In fact, I'm very kind. If you haven't reached the point of wanting to kill me, I won't destroy you."
"However, if I discover you have any more ridiculous ideas..."
"I guarantee I'll pour that cup of scalding coffee down your disgusting throats!"
