Chapter 200: Dreams Come True
Chapter 200: Dreams Come True
"I want to leave here and find my mom and dad. Can you take me with you?"
The little girl's voice was soft and sweet, carrying a hint of timid dependence, like a feather gently brushing against Emily's heart.
She crouched down to meet the girl at eye level, looking into those big eyes brimming with hope. The little girl's long lashes fluttered like butterfly wings, and Emily felt a surge of fierce protectiveness wash over her.
All the hardships she'd endured, all the struggles to clear Ulysses's name—in this moment, they transformed into a determination to protect this pure innocence.
Without hesitation, she nodded and smiled, extending her hand.
"Of course I will. We'll find our way out together and get you back to your parents."
The little girl's face lit up with a radiant smile, like sunshine breaking through fog.
She trustingly placed her small hand in Emily's palm. That warm, tiny touch spread from her fingertips straight to her heart, melting something deep inside her.
Emily held that little hand tightly, as if grasping all the tenderness in the world, and walked step by step toward the faint light in the depths of the dream.
Meanwhile, outside the operating room, time seemed to crawl, each minute stretching unbearably long.
The harsh hallway lights cast Michael's face in increasingly grave shadows.
He stood like a statue at the operating room door, his spine ramrod straight, but his hands were clenched into white-knuckled fists at his sides, veins bulging.
Scenes from the last terrifying episode in the garage kept replaying in his mind, along with the image of Emily's frail eyes as she was wheeled into the operating room. Waves of overwhelming fear washed over his nerves again and again, leaving him nearly breathless.
Lyanna sat on a nearby bench, hands clasped together, lips moving constantly in silent prayer.
Her eyes were red-rimmed, every wrinkle etched with worry, her prayers carrying desperate hopes for Emily and her great-grandchild.
Whenever a nurse hurried past, she would look up anxiously, terrified of missing any news.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the light above the operating room went out!
The door swung open, and Waverly emerged, pulling down her mask, her face bearing a relieved smile.
Michael rushed forward immediately, his voice hoarse and tight with emotion.
"Doctor—how's my wife?!"
Waverly smiled at him, her tone relaxed and confident.
"Mr. Wilson, congratulations! The surgery was a complete success—mother and baby are both doing great. Mrs. Wilson went into early labor because of the accident, but your daughter is healthy. She's a little underweight, but all her vitals are excellent. We've got her in the incubator for observation.
Mrs. Wilson is still under anesthesia, but she should be waking up soon."
Mother and baby are safe!
Waverly's words instantly dispelled all the darkness and fear that had been crushing Michael's heart.
His tense body suddenly went slack. The overwhelming relief mixed with lingering terror made his eyes well up, and his legs nearly gave out.
He leaned against the wall, taking several deep breaths before he could steady himself.
Lyanna stood up, her face bright with emotion.
When Emily slowly emerged from the fog of anesthesia, her first sensation was an empty feeling in her abdomen and a dull ache from the incision.
Instinctively, she reached for her belly—it was flat now.
"The baby... my baby..." Her voice came out weak and hoarse, eyes searching frantically.
"Emily, you're awake!"
Michael, who'd been keeping vigil at her bedside, immediately grasped her hand and leaned close, his voice tender and excited in a way she'd never heard before.
"Don't worry—the baby's fine. You had a girl, and she's healthy. She just needs to stay in the incubator for a few days since she came early. You did amazing, Emily. Thank you..."
He lowered his head and pressed a lingering kiss to her forehead, filled with endless gratitude and love.
Emily's anxious heart finally settled, though tears slipped down her cheeks.
She remembered the strange dream and whispered, "Michael, I just had the strangest dream... There were white clouds everywhere, and this sweet little girl who was lost asked me to take her with me...
I held her hand, and we kept looking for a way out..."
Michael listened, his eyes so tender they seemed to melt.
He gently wiped away her tears, his voice low and warm.
"That wasn't just a dream, Emily. That was our daughter. She knew how hard you were fighting, so she came to meet you—to tell you she was ready to come to us. And now, she's really here."
Just then, a nurse walked in carrying a tiny baby wrapped in a soft blanket, smiling as she said, "Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, the baby's vitals are stable. You can hold her for a quick visit."
Michael carefully took the small, rosy infant from the nurse's arms, his movements so gentle it was as if he were holding the world's most precious treasure.
He was terrified of hurting her with even the slightest pressure. His arms trembled slightly, his eyes full of cautious wonder, even his breathing soft and careful.
He brought the baby to Emily so she could see.
The baby's eyes were closed, her tiny mouth moving slightly. Her skin was still a bit wrinkled, but her delicate features were already evident—the perfect blend of Michael's strong lines and Emily's grace.
"Look at our daughter,"
Michael's voice brimmed with the joy and pride of a new father. "Let's call her Felicity, just like we talked about—so she'll have a lifetime of happiness."
Emily gazed at Felicity's peaceful sleeping face, her heart overflowing with immense happiness and maternal love. She nodded, tears flowing again—but this time, tears of pure joy.
"Yes, Felicity... It's perfect."
She gently reached out and touched Felicity's tender little hand.
As if sensing her mother, Felicity's tiny fingers moved and curled around Emily's fingertip.
That weak but determined grip instantly bound their hearts together.
Just then, the hospital room door opened softly. Lyanna and Natalie—who, after continuous treatment, could now walk slowly—entered together, accompanied by Rhea.
Both wore excited, relieved smiles as they looked at this happy family of three.
Sunlight streamed through the window, filling the room with warm, golden light.
Emily leaned against Michael, looking at Felicity sleeping peacefully in their arms, then at their loving family gathered in the doorway. Her heart filled with infinite hope and certainty about the future.
She knew all the storms had passed. From now on, she and Michael, along with their daughter Felicity, would build a life wrapped in warmth and love.
Year after year, together.
