Chapter 183
Chapter 183
He glanced at Katya, who stood quietly beside him, her eyes flickering with excitement and anticipation. His tone was absolute. "Katya needs a complete mother who belongs only to her. The child in your womb must disappear."
With that, he didn't spare Emily another look before turning and striding out of the hospital room.
Katya approached the bed and reached out her small hand, seemingly wanting to touch Emily's still-flat stomach, but Emily jerked away.
Unfazed, Katya tilted her head and said in that innocent yet cruel voice, "Mommy, Daddy's right. I only want Mommy, nothing else. Mommy, you need to be good and listen."
As Katya followed Gilbert out, Emily was once again left alone in the ward.
Despair washed over her like a tide, but this time, rising alongside it was something stronger—her determination to protect her baby.
She had to find a way to contact Michael.
Her gaze returned to the doorway.
That nurse... she had seen Emily's plea for help. Could she be her only chance?
When Gilbert left, though he hadn't explicitly given orders, the number of guards watching her had clearly increased.
Through the glass panel in the door, she could see at least two burly men in black suits standing on either side, completely crushing any thought Emily had of forcing her way out.
The window had been secured from outside with a limiter, allowing only a narrow gap—not even enough to stick her head through.
The private ward had become another prison—more elegant, but a prison nonetheless.
Time ticked by, each second feeling like torture on Emily's heart.
The "thinking time" Gilbert had granted wouldn't last long. His obsessive need for control would never allow Michael's child to exist.
Once he lost patience, or decided persuasion was hopeless, she would likely face being dragged onto an operating table.
She had to act before then!
Perhaps by some miracle, as evening approached, the door opened again, and the same young nurse from that morning entered.
She carried dinner and medication, keeping her head down, avoiding Emily's eyes.
Her movements were more hurried and nervous than in the morning, clearly shaken by their earlier interaction.
Emily's heart began racing again.
As the nurse set the tray on the bedside table and prepared to leave, Emily lunged forward and grabbed the edge of the nurse's white uniform.
"Please, help me!" Emily's voice cracked with emotion, tears instantly streaming down her pale cheeks.
Her voice was filled with raw fear. "I'm pregnant... Gilbert wants to kill my baby. He's forcing me to get rid of my child!"
The nurse had clearly already guessed Emily wasn't lying. She glanced anxiously toward the door, afraid the commotion might attract the guards outside.
"Let go of me! I can't help you!" The nurse's voice shook as she tried to pull away.
"You're the only one who can help me." Emily clung to her like a final lifeline, whispering frantically. "Just let me borrow your phone for one minute. I just need to send one text to my baby's father, to tell him where I am. Please..."
Before all this, Emily would never have begged a stranger this way, nor would she have wanted to put a nurse in such a dangerous position.
But now, she truly had no other options.
When she mentioned "baby," the nurse's struggle visibly paused. Her face showed a flash of sympathy and conflict.
She looked at Emily's tear-streaked, desperate face, at the thick bandages on her wrists, and thought about the pregnancy report.
"I'll get caught... Mr. Harvey won't let me go..." The nurse's voice trembled with fear and indecision.
"You won't, I promise!" Emily urgently assured her, mind racing. "Just let me use your phone. I'll delete everything right after sending the text! Just act like you don't know anything!
My baby's father will come quickly. You won't be in trouble—you'll be the hero who saved me and my child. I swear, we'll owe you everything..."
These words hammered at the nurse's fragile resistance.
Fear of Gilbert, concern for her own safety, sympathy for the pregnant woman before her, and the possibility of a "reward" all mixed together, leaving her pale and breathing hard.
Time seemed frozen.
The faint footsteps of the guards in the hallway were clearly audible, like a countdown.
Finally, just as Emily was about to lose hope, the nurse suddenly made up her mind.
She quickly glanced around, then with lightning speed, pulled a small phone from her uniform pocket and slipped it under Emily's pillow!
The entire process took only two or three seconds.
"Just send a message... hurry..."
The nurse whispered almost inaudibly, then as if burned, she yanked her uniform free. Grabbing the medication tray, she stumbled out of the ward, even forgetting to have Emily take her medicine.
The door closed again.
Emily's heart felt ready to explode from her chest.
Fighting back overwhelming excitement and tension, she held her breath, listening for any movement outside.
There seemed to be no alarm.
She immediately used her uninjured right hand to reach under the pillow, trembling as she felt the phone, still warm from the nurse's body. The cold metal casing felt like fire against her skin.
Emily unlocked the screen and opened the messaging app.
Her fingers shook so badly from nervousness and weakness that she hit the wrong keys several times.
Michael's phone number was etched in her memory, carved into her soul.
She quickly entered the digits and confirmed the recipient.
Next came the message itself.
It couldn't be too long but needed to contain the most critical information.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to stay calm as her fingertips tapped the cold screen.
She quickly glanced at the bed card to see the hospital name and general location—a private room near the obstetrics department.
After writing the address, she hit send.
Seeing "Message Sent" appear on the screen, Emily instantly collapsed back onto the bed, cold sweat soaking through her hospital gown.
She didn't dare wait a second longer. With trembling fingers, she completely deleted the message history, then slipped the phone back under the pillow, carefully smoothing out any wrinkles.
When finished, she lay there gasping for breath, exhausted. Tears flowed uncontrollably again, but this time, they were tears of hope and relief.
The message had been sent.
